Decided to get a bit of Asian spice tonight, first night in Santiago and not craving Chilean or Peruvian cuisine at all. It's hard to avoid Chilean food and not come across an empanadas, but I try hard to avoid gluten unless I want my digestion to come to a halt for at least 24 hours. I ordered the veggie spring roll, but it would have been nice if the waitress had told me there are 8 halves, given I was solo and had also ordered a main entree. I ate 3 halves and gutted out the other 5 and only ate the cabbage, carrots and vermicelli insides.
I was a bit disappointed to find that they don't offer steamed tofu in any of the dishes, which is worlds better than stir fried tofu. I ordered the standard safe dish of Pad Thai with veggies and tofu, but was a bummed to find baby corn, cauliflower and cherry tomatoes in my dish, but at least the dish as a whole still tasted good. Note to self next time to order agua or water from the tap, she assumed I wanted to pay for bottled water and I was surprised when she came out with a bottle for me but I felt committed and obligated and realize she's trying to nickel and dime you for everything so that my bill will be higher, that's abundantly clear. Food is pretty good overall though. Just be careful of what you order and ask lots of questions so hi won't be surprised when the bill comes. This place was so good that I went again a second time 2 days later. read more
