I love this mall I…read moresee the same guard at night by the Dunkin around 130am. Nice guy, I thought. I thought I was SAFE. Nay! I see something or someone every night who stands near the guard by the entrance, say nothing, but don't know why no one does. I mean he should respectfully change sometime, not outstay his welcome. I try to speak to the guard who pretends to speak another language than English. The fact he did that was not nice, disrespectful and if anything ever were to happen he would be a zero, not act, and we don't need that. The guards all around are good. I don't feel this one would protect us since his character is poor. I really didn't appreciate his poor judgement and he does speak English, I just didn't hear the last thing he said and he would not tell me and said he didn't speak English when we were talking in English. Crazy, as I didn't need that Attitude when I wanted to help. The guy hanging out isn't causing trouble, but he is by the edge of the elevator early at night every night. And obviously the guard is sexist because he isn't giving him the cold shoulder he gave me. One would hope when someone speaks to a guard that they would respond. I happen to have left my purse in the theater, so I went back after all, got it then when I passed him this time at 230am I walked by him as if he didn't exist because he treated me as if I didn't exist and he is there for our safety. That guard is just collecting. He is useless. I don't trust his ability to be helpful. Courtesy goes along way. He knows that man is there, fine, and now you know that guard apparently discriminates and should anything bad truly happen he would act stupid and play dumb again. I'm not playing with my life. If I speak up, I care, so if someone needs help, and they ask him, he probably would have another disturbing reaction.

It's a great spot to bond over spontaneous purchases and the eternal debate of whether we really need another pair of shoes. I used to be a regular here, practically a mall rat. But, you know, adulting happened. Still, every trip down these halls is a stroll down memory lane. Malls are like dinosaurs - magnificent, nostalgic, and unfortunately, a bit endangered. If you're expecting a huge mall with like in the burbs you're very likely to be disappointed. Kings Plaza has always had the DNA of a hood mall, and while it's never quite been an Albee Square in its heyday situation (iykyk), it's not super high end. It had its hidden gems though most have gone downhill (the Cookie House fell off as soon as they moved from the og kiosk to the actual store). Brick and mortar retail is struggling and this place is a great example. In recent years they have tried to get more upmarket and bring in better retailers, reflecting the rapidly gentrifying nature of Brooklyn as a whole. A series of renovations have made it more open and airy and it's looking way better than the dark and claustrophobic labyrinth it once was. But that hood DNA is still in it. Primark as an anchor is just a British version of Burlington Coat Factory if I'm honest. Sometimes you can find good stuff in there, but it's like treasure hunting, and like most big chain stores in this mall, it's a bit chaotic and understaffed compared to other locations. Selection is an issue at times with stores here because they're usually smaller than other locations. Like the Sephora is limited compared to its other Brooklyn stores. If you're trying to get popular staple brands you're probably fine, but more niche products or lines you're probably SOL. Similarly the Ulta location while very welcome is smaller and lacks variety of bigger ones. Even the Target is one of the smaller footprint stores and you're honestly better off hopping on the B41 bus outside and heading to the one at the Junction. The rowdy teen problem is very real though, and it's been an issue here for as long as I can remember. I worked summer jobs at Sears back when it was still the big anchor 30 years ago and remember a wilding incident where a huge bunch of teens came in stealing and running out. Closing the movie theater solved a lot of the issues (though I do miss ratchet talking at the screen lol) but not all of them, and TikTok makes it easier for bad actors to organize this type of foolishness. I do feel for kids because they really lack third spaces to hang out safely, like we haf as 90s teens. But they were doing this crap even back then. Security tries but like I said it's been decades of this type of behavior. And it's honestly what is holding Kings Plaza back, sadly. I have a lot of childhood nostalgia for this mall and I want it to be great but it keeps popping up in the local news for all the wrong reasons. Contrasting with the huge Albee Square to CityPoint transformation is crazy. But Marine Park and southern Brooklyn in general is just never going to gentrify the way Downtown Brooklyn did because it's too far from Manhattan and this area is a transit desert despite the mall being a major bus hub. Taken for what it is, it's a decent place to do pickups of online orders or browse for very basic things if you have patience. Just avoid it like the plague during after school hours.

They were decent sized cookies from what I remember, soft and with a ton of melty, gooey semi-sweet milk chocolate chunks distributed evenly throughout the whole cookie. If that cookie stand still exists, I would be more than happy to go out of my way and revisit Kings Plaza.

I also love the liquid soap the dispenser dispenses. The restrooms on the first floor are quite different than the second floor. There is foam soap coming out of the dispensers. Also the lighting is very dimmed. Not enough lighting. This mall has a lot of marble tables all around and comfortable leather couches to relax. There are many nice shops to check out although all of them are high end.

There are also a number of buses that stop in the vicinity. Walking inside from street level, what you immediately notice is the very tall atrium the extends upward a couple stories to a wide, slightly domed sky light that provides some picturesque streams of light to illuminate the inside of building, depending on the time of day. There are stairs that wind around a column where you can ascend to get a closer view of the ceiling structure, and a birdseye view of the open floors below. Of course as with most NYC subway stations with more than a couple lines criss-crossing, make sure you're reading the signs that direct you to the correct lines headed uptown or downtown. To the uninitiated it can be confusing. As for stores inside, to name a few there's Shake Shack, Chik-fil-A, Dunkin Donuts, Krispy Kreme, Gong Cha, a couple Irish pubs, Gateway Newsstand, a wine/liquor store, a barber shop, Duane Reade, Auntie Annie's Pretzels, a florist. Generally speaking this station is on the cleaner side compared to most.
