Like the owner has responded to everyone's comments, this place is not a run of the mill thrift shop, but rather a vintage boutique so things aren't going to be at a thrift shop price and that is okay. I personally couldn't fork out money for any of the vintage pieces, but I did buy a cute pair of vintage inspired sunglasses from here for about $20 if I remember the price correctly. At the least, give the store a try to see if there's anything you want to buy. It's fun to look around and see all the celebrities that the owner has pictures with on the walls.

The shop is cozy but well-decorated with several tasteful items that are perfect for a gift to yourself or a gift for a loved one. I ended up getting a gold tea strainer and some gold teaspoons that I've been using nonstop for the last few days. They are good quality and make tea time a little more elevated. So glad I stopped by and can't wait to come back and support this business. And don't forget to stop by their adjacent cafe!

This place has been open for years, ever since I've worked in downtown Manhattan, Dijon has existed…read more(that's about 7 years now - wowsers)! And I never quite had the gall to review this place for fear of others knowing I sometimes drop in and buy what's on trend, if I like what I see. Now, after the major re-up, post-Sandy disaster, Dijon has moved one store down, and literally downsized to about half the space it used to have. The trade-off with this however, is a better organized, more streamlined store, and the shopping experience is boosted as a result. The window display is actually very inviting now, and looks like they hired a visual merchandising decorator or something. Before, you'd feel like you were shopping at the 99 cent store of clothing stores, but now, it actually feels like a boutique. Sort of. I did come in last night and buy three tops, and altogether it was less than $35. I mean, where does that happen anymore? Maybe Forever21, but then this is how you feel shopping in that store (http://www.buzzfeed.com/jessicamisener/what-its-like-shopping-at-forever-21). Don't get me wrong, I love me my Forever21, but Dijon is a little more forgiving in terms of the sizes they have, being more womanly for those of us whose hips don't lie (thank you for that song, Shakira). They have name brands here, and as other reviewers have mentioned, the tags are usually ripped off or crossed out with what appears to be black ink from a Sharpie. That's cool Dijon, I ain't mad at ya. If you can get me LOFT, Banana Republic, GAP, etc for 1/5th the price, go ahead and tear up all the tags inside the clothes, I'm fine with that. Even if some items are out of season, or fit a little oddly, as they sometimes do, the store makes up for it, by trying its best to stay on trend and keep things fresh. Whenever I feel like getting new duds for a trip or vacation, I'm not against shopping here to get something that might not last forever, but is the flavor of the season and will look cute on me for all intents and purposes. They have a shoe section, which is akin to shopping at Target with how everything is laid out and displayed, but here again, they do carry name brands at attractive prices, so it's kind of pretty sweet, though the actual selection can sometimes be hit or miss. A lot of FiDi women shop here, and really no one is against saving some money, and that's why Dijon has lasted all these years. I've seen it.

This is a double review for Dijon Boutique on Maiden Lane and De Janeiro on Nassau St., since they…read moreare pretty obviously the same place. In short: Cheap clothes, shoes, and accessories. It's a good place to get basics that you don't expect to wear for more than a few months (e.g. strange brands, all made in China). In that respect, Dijon/DJ aren't so interesting - there are similar shops all over the Financial District, not to mention all over this city. HOWEVER, if you have the time to hunt? De Janeiro/Dijon is a closeout clothing haven!! Banana Republic, Nine West, Gap, etc... Regular clothes in well-known brands are marked down 50-90%. Stuff may be from the previous season, or they may be from YEARS ago - as in the case of a Banana Republic blazer I snagged for $25, original price $240. From the 2010 season, but who the hell cares? If you're like me, you'll jump for glee when you see the label inside the collar markered over or cut out. Yay steep discounts! Head back frequently to check what's new in stock. Be prepared to swim through oceans of badly made clothes that are a waste of fabric.

On a more personal note, I visited Albertine three times before deciding to feature it on The Boutique of the Week, not because I was wary of the selection, but the price is higher than my norm. However, Albertine truly is too good to pass up and is the perfect place to splurge and treat yourself to an amazing piece (or two, or three...). The jewelry is the best feature of Albertine and will have you coming back just to drool over it. The exquisitely edited collection is priced from $100 to a steep $1,000+. The beautiful vintage pieces are displayed in glass cases, but touching and dressing up is encouraged. Delicate necklaces share a wall with leather cuffs, and pendants of owls and horns share a case with a silver snake ring and jade earrings. Prices can only be found out from a large binder where handwritten notes and photos document the inventory. The womenswear boasts up-and-coming designers and custom-made pieces that are feminine and vintage-inspired ranging from $150-600+. Flowy fabrics in all colors can be found in floor-length silk gowns and highly-structured bomber jackets. The cozy store normally only has one or two sizes displayed, but the staff is happy to find you the perfect fit in the back. A Victorian couch faces a large mirror for ample viewing, and you can even sometimes find the owner's dog napping as the eclectically chic staff offers spot-on critiques and styling tips.
