As someone who's very picky with halal food carts, I can tell you this with full faith, but this has to be my new favorite cart in all of New York. Make sure you look for the orange cart that says "#1 Soho Halal Food Guy", not to be mistaken for the chain Halal Guys. This cart is honestly so good ! The runner of the stall is a very kind Bengali man who likes to get to know his customers. He even knows all the businesses in the area and will do his best to remember you. The actual food is genuinely full of love and has ingredients that no other halal cart has. I always get the lamb over rice, which he generously piles on (one time my box struggled to close because of how much he fills the box). His lamb is coated, which is already new; then he has chili peppers, penne pasta, and even bell peppers in his platters. To top it off, when you get a spicier platter, he sprinkles it with chili pepper. I honestly have never had my halal this way, and I have tried maybe fifty different carts at this point in my life. This cart is good, it's just not that great. The cart takes a bit of time, and the food is really fresh and tasty, but it isn't as flavorful as it could be, and it's not the best halal food you're going to get in NYC. I would eat this for dinner once a week, just know that there are better options in the city! read more

It's always super fun to try a variety of halal carts and see how they all differ from each other, whether that's how they cook the meat, their rice, what vegetables they serve in their side "salad", how they plate their food, and even what spices they might add to their sauces. There're no two carts that are exactly identical and it's always a good time finding out whether you are personally compatible with an individual halal carts take on food. I'm happy to say that I am very compatible with this cart in general haha. I enjoy getting the combo platter (lamb and chicken) with white sauce and hot sauce and the rice, side salad, and meat are all good, hearty, halal cart fare. One time my meat was warm at best but that was simply a one-off experience and every other time it has been piping hot which is great. The main differentiation that this cart offers is that their hot sauce is hotter than normal which I love, and they also add chopped up spicy green peppers throughout the plate which add an extra pop of spice to it which I really enjoy. I'm a big spice guy and I love the level of heat the food here offers, on occasion I'll even get it extra hot and finish my plate, sweating but very satisfied. The guy himself is a fun character too, definitely a unique dude haha. First Impression: i'm told by my coworkers that there's usually really long lines for this spot... I lucked out and only two people in front of me, but that's likely because it was 43° outside lol The Noms: Combination plate with chicken and lamb and rice... no tomato no onions salad only, plenty of white sauce, and a little bit of red sauce on the side - surprisingly the salad was very crisp and fresh like it was freshly cut (unlike Halal guys, whose lettuce is usually wilted). This was super satisfying to eat probably one of my top Halal food experiences. As of right now this is my favorite chicken lamb and rice spot. my only complaint is that they have no small plastic cups for the sauces.. so when you ask for it on the side, they squirt it into the corner. I will just bring my own containers, lol. In Conclusion: damn it, I'm sure I'm going to fail my New Year's resolution to lose weight because this spot is right outside my work place and I'm already craving another helping. This is one of my favorite halal carts. Located on the corner of Houston St. and Broadway, it's very conveniently located near several subway stops in Soho. Chicken and rice is my choice of food here. I'm a pretty big fan of halal, and I have tried many halal carts thoughout the city and I think this one is up there with the best. The value here is excellent. It's $5 for chicken and rice. The chicken here is marinated and tastes more like Sammy's halal than Halal guys. The rice is also flavored. They usually have green sauce here so I get it with white, hot, and green sauce. The combination is very flavorful. More often than not the sizing of your platter is pretty large, although sometimes I haven't gotten as heaping of a share as others. The taste also isn't as consistent, as I would like. However, because of the price and taste, I'd still say this cart is five stars. There isn't many places to sit around here, so you'll probably have to take your platter to go or stand and eat it. read more

I had a sandwich once, and while it was delicious, it was also extremely messy, so I probably won't be doing that again. Instead, I always get the meat/rice combination. For $4, you get an enormous amount of food, plus your choice of sauces, white, spicy, or bbq. There isn't much you can get in Manhattan for $4 anymore, so it's a real bargain. We were too lazy to make any great pilgrimage for food and there was a Halal cart right across the street from the hotel. I ordered the chicken and rice (with red & white sauces), which was decent. It certainly doesn't match 53rd and 6th, but convenience was the key here. Although the menu lists chicken and rice as a $5 item, the guy charged us $1 more because he said it was after 2am.
