We are snowbirds in St Augustine for 3 months from Wisconsin. We had heard that Happy Paws Pet Grooming and Rita were absolute the Best Groomer in St Augustine. I agree that Rita is the Best Groomer in St Augustine. We have a mini schnauzer. Maddie is her name. She is almost 11 years old and needs a grooming every 5 to 6 weeks. Not only was this grooming the best cut Maddie ever had, but the grooming experience was also the best. From the reviews it was known that Happy Paws Pet Grooming was very busy, and we may not be able to make an appointment. Well, Rita went out of her way to get Maddie in for a grooming, Take the chance and try to make an appointment, it is worth it. Several other reviews here thought this was their mini schnauzer best cut. I would agree with them. Upon arriving, the first thing Rita and her assistant did was to kneel down to Maddie's level and gave her some loving. Most times taking Maddie to a new groomer will cause Maddie to show her fear by shivering. This did not happen with Rita, Rita put Maddie on a bed, not in a dog crate, while we check in. Maddie was ready to pick up is 2 hours. When we came back to pick up Maddie, she was on the bed, not in crate. Thanks Rita, for making this a pleasant experience for Maddie and us. I can remember having another groomer in St Augustine taking over 6 hours to groom Maddie. We were expecting a call after 3 hours. The call never came. We finally went to the groomer's business only to find a shivering Maddie just getting her grooming started. This means that Maddie was in a crate for hours before her grooming. As someone who travels a lot for work, I love knowing that the vet is steps away from the boarding facility when I leave him there before a trip. The techs light up when they see him and it makes me feel better knowing they remember him and know how he is and what he needs. Aside from highly knowledgeable and friendly staff, you can't beat the price point. Most affordable boarding I've been able to find, and the dental cleaning he had done recently was less than the averages I was finding online. Love this place!

My dog requires prescription diet food, and I asked the office to approve the prescription through Chewy after Chewy informed me that the request had not been authorized. When I contacted the veterinary office, I was told they no longer approve prescriptions through Chewy and that I would need to purchase the food through their online store or come in person to pick up the prescription. I explained that this was not possible at the time because I was on my way to take my husband to the emergency room and my dog was running out of food. I asked if an exception could be made given the circumstances, but they declined. I found this response to be unnecessarily inflexible and lacking in compassion, especially considering my long history as a client and the urgent personal situation I was facing.

There is something…read moregenuinely special about this place and it was very easy to tell from the first visit Dr. Jack genuinely cares but recently that became abundantly more apparent when my baby boy Blitz(only 6 years old) got sick and they ran the test they are able to there and preform a xray but he needed to see a specialist. This started a long heart breaking long to months of visits to specialists, surgeries, tests, lab work with amounting to 10s of thousands of dollars and tragically my baby was not getting any better and only getting worse. Every specialist and urgent vet I went too all only wanted to do the same thing run more and more expensive test and special medications and even after repeatedly going too the specialist first for $1800 in tests then $7000 for surgery then more and more tests and medications and imaging and endless expenses with no real compassion and never seeing the results they promised. Eventually I ran out of funds to and he also was getting much worse and it became apparent to me he was not going to make it out of this one. I called the specialist vet I spent 10s of thousands with and ask if I could just get pain medication until his until his home euthanasia could be preformed. They refused unless I brought him in for an expensive office visit and more blood work which I could not afford, they had absolutely no compassion or sympathy. I called St Augustine Animal Clinic as a last resort asking for help. I spoke with Carson on the phone and was instantly given compassion and sympathy as if Blitz was his own dog. They had me bring him in and Dr Jack did everything he could to make him as comfortable as possible in his finally days and I will be forever grateful for Dr. Jack and his entire staff who all showed the most compassion and sympathy and genuinely care about the animals and the people. I cannot recommend this vet enough I will never take my babies anywhere else. Thankyou Dr Jack, Carson, and everyone else there.

STAY AWAY!!! You've been warned…read more Here's what happened to us.... 1. NEVER CALLED BACK. When I arranged to have my dog (Milo) stay with Crystal we began talking through logistics but then she had to jump off and she said she'd call me right back. A couple of days later, after not hearing back from her, I called her again. She said she remembered me and tried calling me back but, "must have had the wrong number". Not sure how she could have had the wrong number when your phone shows "recent calls". 2. NO DOG TOYS. No dog toys in sight, inside or outside. 3. WENT RADIO SILENT. I heard from her on Sunday at 9:49am. After not hearing from her on Monday, I texted her on Tuesday at 1:58pm, No word back. I texted again on Wednesday at 8:08am. Still silence. I then texted her later that morning at 11:10am, left a voicemail at 11:43am, sent an email at 11:48pm, and a FB message around that same time. Lastly, I left her a missed call an hour later at 12:43pm. To summarize, I sent 3 texts, called 2x, and sent an email and FB message after not hearing from her in nearly 3 days. (She claimed I didn't give her time to get in touch with me because I only sent the email and FB message 1 hour prior to us connecting via phone. However, that disregards all of the texts and calls I made in an attempt to reach her before that.) 4. ONLY PICKED UP WHEN I CALLED FROM ANOTHER NUMBER. 5. CLAIMED SHE NEVER GOT MY TEXTS, VOICEMAIL, OR MISSED CALLS. When we did connect, she claimed she never received any of my texts, my voicemail, or my missed call. I believe she doesn't realize that the iphones show when texts have been delivered. 6. YELLED AT ME FOR THE MAJORITY OF OUR CALL. 7. WRONGFULLY CLAIMED I DEMANDED MILO SIT ON SOMEONE'S LAP FOR 2 WEEKS STRAIGHT. Not only did I never request he be in someone's lap 24/7 for two weeks, but that wouldn't even be feasible... I told Crystal that Milo is most comfortable with people and loves sitting on laps and shared how I hoped he could get some lap time at her place since he gets scared easily. That statement's far from demanding he sit on a lap for 2 weeks straight. 8. WRONGFULLY CLAIMED I ACCUSED HER OF NOT FEEDING MY DOG. This thought hadn't even crossed my mind. 9. LOST HER SH*T WHEN I ASKED FOR PICTURES, AFTER SHE TOLD ME I COULD ASK FOR PICTURES. When I dropped Milo off, she said, "He's your baby; if you want pictures of him, just text me!" I thought that was very kind. After she offered to share pictures with us, I texted her [at most] once a day to ask for a photo or video. Some days, I didn't ask at all. When she finally answered my phone (when I thought to use someone else's number) she then yelled at me and claimed I was demanding because I asked for photos. She said I was the most demanding customer she's had because when she offered to send me pictures, she hadn't wanted to send them almost daily, and it was my fault for asking for the photos... 10) CANCELLED ON US 1/2 WAY THOUGH DOG BOARDING LEAVING US STRANDED MID-VACATION. Our call ended with her telling me she wouldn't continue watching my dog because I was demanding (demanding of what? I still don't know... I guess for requesting the photos that she offered to send) and that I needed to have someone pick my dog up. This led me to scramble and have to find someone at the last minute to get my dog and then care for him just as the holidays are about to start.

I cannot say enough good things about the caring, competent people at this vet. If you live in the area and are looking for an incredible vet who will take care of both you and your fur babies, this practice is it. To make a very long story short, I called them in tears, terrified that Hurricane Dorian was going to prevent us from being able to treat my dog's cancer fast enough to keep her with us (she'd been diagnosed that morning from a much less kind vet). The staff at Antigua listened patiently as I explained that we'd just lost our old dog to cancer the month prior, that our puppy was only a year and a half, and made time to see us that very afternoon. Amid the hurricane, my panic, the preparations they were making to ensure the creatures in their care were safe from Dorian, they made space and time for us. And after the hurricane had passed, they squeezed my dog into a surgery slot the next day to make sure she was given the best chance at life--they did this even though they were booked up for a month and a half, and were no doubt working with people whose animals had been injured during the storm. I have been to several vets on and around Anastasia, and Antigua Veterinary Practice is head, shoulders, knees and toes above the rest.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, I have to update my original review…read more I initially had a very positive experience with this office when I brought my 9-year-old Yorkie, Chance, in for his dental evaluation and cleaning. I was impressed with the communication, the detailed estimate, and how everything was explained to me beforehand. Unfortunately, after his dental cleaning, I discovered that approximately four teeth on the right side still had a significant amount of tartar buildup, despite Chance having already been under general anesthesia for the procedure. About two weeks after his cleaning, I noticed the remaining tartar and contacted the office. The manager asked me to bring Chance back in so they could take a look. I also took photos and emailed them to the office. After reviewing the photos, the veterinarian apologized and acknowledged that this was not up to their standards. They agreed that a partial refund was appropriate, which I do appreciate. They offered a $125 refund, explaining that the cleaning portion of the approximately $1,300 procedure was around $160. They also offered to put Chance under general anesthesia again and complete the cleaning properly at no additional charge. While I appreciate that they offered to correct the issue, we are not comfortable putting Chance through general anesthesia again simply because the original cleaning was not thorough while he was already under anesthesia. He is 9 years old, and we feel that if he was going to undergo anesthesia for a professional dental cleaning, the expectation was that all of his teeth would be thoroughly evaluated, cleaned, and X-rayed during that procedure. Because we don't feel comfortable having him anesthetized again, we now have to pay another $185 at another facility that uses a different approach, wrapping him up like a "burrito" and cleaning the tartar above the gumline. It's not the ideal solution, but we would rather do that than put him under anesthesia again. Ultimately, this means we are paying additional money and going through the inconvenience of having his teeth treated a second time when we had already paid approximately $1,300 for his dental procedure. I completely understand that mistakes happen. We are all human, and I don't expect perfection. What was disappointing to me was that the inconvenience and additional expense this created for us did not feel adequately reflected in the $125 refund. I also had to take time out of my day to bring Chance back to the office so they could confirm what I had already documented in the photos, that there was significant tartar left behind. I do want to give credit where it is due. The veterinarian apologized, acknowledged that the result was not their standard of care, offered to redo the dental at no charge, and emailed me copies of Chance's dental X-rays when I requested them. I appreciate those things. However, as a dental hygienist myself, I understand the importance of a thorough cleaning, and as a pet owner, I trusted that Chance's dental procedure would be completed properly the first time. The biggest disappointment is that he went through general anesthesia for a procedure that ultimately wasn't completed as thoroughly as we expected, and now we have to find another way to address the teeth that were missed. I wanted to update my original review because while our initial experience was very positive, the outcome of Chance's dental procedure and the way the situation was ultimately handled left us disappointed. I hope the office takes this feedback seriously, because I do believe mistakes can happen, but the goal should always be to make the patient, and in this case, the pet and their owner, whole when something goes wrong.
