We brought our 10 y/o german shepherd to PP a couple of times during our month long stay in St. Augustine. He's not used to being away from us but sometime it is necessary. We knew he was in good hands because of the live video where we could see him playing with other dogs and following the people by the pool and with the hose. BORDETELLA and MORE! I boarded my dog, Rocco, here 3 times in the last 4 months, usually 11-15 days each time. He was completely vaxxed prior to his 1st stay & has NEVER bit/attacked another dog or human. They would NOT honor the remaining 800+ reward points I had accumulated for all 3 stays. Total cost: $1733! Rocco was diagnosed with Bordetella, AKA Kennel Cough, by my vet' the next day. This was an additional $149.25 for the antibiotics & services. It was during a 15 day stay, and I still wonder how long he had to suffer... I was not offered any compensation, though I requested it after the 3rd stay. They told me it was "the season" for this disease (In July???). My dog, I was told, was separated from the other dogs because of his breed (Staffy/Pitbull Terrier). I never ONCE saw him on the live cams that they provide online. They gave him a white collar with the word "CAUTION" written on the front, yet his "Pawgress Report" stated that he was "Shy, Relaxing & Exploring", cleaned his bowl and is welcome back any time. Each time, I brought toys for him to play with, some did not return. Twice, he did NOT get to play with them, since they came back brand new and squeaking. On the 3rd stay, I asked if they let him play with the toys and was told that he "had so much fun playing every day with them". I picked up one toy, held it up and squeaked it. Rocco usually disables the squeak in less than 4 minutes. I don't like being lied to... The manager informed me that the "Next time it happens again, please notify them" so that they can disinfect the immediate area for Bordetella. NEXT TIME?!? I took my 4.5 months old Jack Russell puppy to Pet Paradise for her very first Doggy Day Care today, and I will definitely go back. We used to board our dogs at that facility on a regular basis but that was well over 5 years ago and I wasn't sure what to expect. I read all the reviews on Yelp: it's interesting that they are either 5 stars or 1 star... with nothing in between, so I guess you either love it or hate it. My personal experience was great, just like it was years ago. The staff is friendly, they do pick up the phone when I call, and when I got there with the puppy they listened to my concerns and assured me she would be in a group of small dogs and supervised at all times, and explained how I could use the webcam to check on her. She spent 6 hours there and had a great time socializing, playing and swimming. The reason why I nicked a star is that yes, you can definitely smell dog urine - even in the front desk area. Not sure that is a "sign of bad hygiene" like some people claim, or just that the place needs some refresh and TLC: dog urine does get embedded even in concrete and certainly in the fake grass. Pros: Front desk staff was nice, facility is spacious, cool bone shaped pool for the dogs, price is reasonable (for 5 nights and grooming we paid $270). Cons: Smells heavily of pet urine. Staff is impossible to get ahold of over the phone - out of around 20-25 calls over about a two week timeframe, we only ever managed to get through twice and my requests for call backs were never returned. It doesn't seem that my dog was given all of her medication as there were more than there should have been when we picked her up. My dog has been INCREDIBLY lethargic since returning home - she's a husky with high energy so this is definitely abnormal. She also started having a really horrible wet, deep sounding cough. Took her to the vet and they suspect kennel cough. Thankfully she was already on medication but we're keeping an eye on her to make sure she doesn't develop pneumonia. Conclusion: Likely won't return here. Will be looking at other facilities but might use this as backup in case of an emergency as it's close to home and reasonably priced. At the end of the day though, I'd spend the extra money or drive the extra distance to take my dog somewhere safer for her health. read more

Our 4-month old Land Shark (German Shepherd Dog) puppy has been in Pet Paradise day camp this week. The best part is that he comes home exhausted: a tired puppy is a good puppy. We've been able to watch him on the webcam during play park time and we were both (my husband and I) very happy to see him holding his own in a pack of adult dogs. He is a land shark, after all. I live in the vicinity of Pet Paradise, Ponce Harbor Dr location in St. Augustine. I've lived here 8 years and have gotten accustomed to hearing the dogs barking every mornin. I love dogs . Sadly, I've witnessed through hearing the employee who works morning shift 7am yelling at the dogs, even hearing an air horn!! This has been going on for months. If I was boarding my dog there I would be saddened and angry that an employee doesn't even have the common knowledge of how to treat a dog!! YELLING at dogs and blowing an air horn to try and quiet dogs doesn't work! Those dogs are already in an unfamiliar environment away from their family, and your employee is traumatizing them more! Let me preface this by saying I don't like to complain. But, I'm picky when it comes to my animal's well-being and instead of being silent I'm going to warn anyone thinking about boarding their animal at this location. I gave this location ample chances to make this situation right, and they refuse to even return my phone calls. So I'll post an honest review. My corgi puppy stayed at the St. Augustine location for 5 days while I had my wedding in St. Augustine. He was 9 months old and I was worried about leaving him when I got there. My puppy was extremely skittish and wouldn't go near the handler that came out to get him. He's normally so friendly, curious of new locations, and enjoys day camp at his vet, so I was concerned this was his reaction. My husband had to take my puppy back to his kennel because he would not go with anyone that worked there. My husband said the back smelled strongly of urine, but I paid extra for regular check ins and felt like my animal would be taken care of. I did not receive all of the check ins I paid to receive, (which makes me wonder if my dog received the extras like treats and extra playtime that I paid for) but on the updates I did receive my puppy looked happy. I was concerned there were SO many dogs in the pictures with no care takers in sight however. And given that my dog was sick when he came home from something caused by overcrowding, I wish I had called to voice my concern during my pet's stay. After 5 days there my dog was sick and came home coughing and wheezing uncontrollably. He literally kept crawling in my lap and crying while wheezing. I took him to 2 different vets that said it was kennel cough from overcrowding and poor sanitation. My sisters dogs then caught kennel cough from my puppy, and they've been passing it back and forth. My dog still wheezes a little when he overexerts himself. This is almost TWO FULL months after his stay. I brought this to the attention of managers. They basically told me it wasn't their fault and no other animals had this issue. While I'm thankful other dogs are fine, mine was not for over a month after his stay, and their indifference and how rude they were about the situation was off putting to say the least. They never answer their phones and when they do they have poor communication and don't relay messages. I paid over $300 to have my animal boarded here just for him to come home sick and now more skittish around vets and vet techs than usual. Several hundred dollars in vet bills later, I advise anyone skip this establishment and find another solution. Honestly, I wish I had kept my dog home with a sitter. I'm seriously disappointed with the lack of professionalism and complete disregard for my animal's health, especially when I paid so much extra for services above and beyond regular boarding. TLDR This place won't care when they get your dog sick. Skip this place and find another. read more

Pet Paradise St. Augustine is our choice for boarding our family dog, Skyler. We have used their services several times from overnight stay to whole week boarding. Skyler loves visiting and especially enjoys the kindness and LOVE he receives from the staff. The kennels are clean and bedding is off the cement. There is a huge play yard complete with a pool and exercise ramps. Staff is very attentive and friendly to both humans and canines. They also have feline boarding and specialty suites. A few hours before I was set to drop him off they called and said they were actually completely booked. Somehow they didn't know this when I booked or gave them money, but they figured it out at noon 2 hours before his drop off time. The person who called offered to refund my money and told me I could try a nearby pet paradise location. For some reason she didn't think to offer to check for me. Luckily I found a legitimate pet boarding company in time. Oh, they also never refunded my $190 and I had to get my credit card company to intervene. Took my standard poodle there for grooming for the first time. The groomer was Jamie. She did exactly what I wanted. She actually listened. What I mostly appreciated was the focus she had on things that other groomers overlook or are substandard. This includes getting the hair out of my dog's ears, shaving around areas tend to get the dirtiest, brushed his teeth. It's not always just the surface appearance that is important, but doing things that keep our pets healthy! read more

Ok we are done with this place. Haven't been able to make a reservation the last 4-5 times no matter how early ahead of time I attempted to book. No one answers the phones and I understand that they are probably understaffed but no one returns calls either when you leave your information. My baby was also groomed there and came home with an upper-respiratory infection that he gave to my two other pups as well. The people who work there seem super nice but it's just not run well. Now I have received a few messages that their prices are going up.......not a problem for me since I can't get in there anyway . They obviously rely on the business of those who drop off their kids 5-7 days every week. I will find a sound alternative to socialize my puppy. read more

MY DOG HAS BEEN SICK for over a week! I brought my dog to Pet Paradise for a week, and she came home really sick. While there is always a risk when you allow you dog to be amongst many other pups, the people in the facility didn't bother to tell me she was sick (and she was very, very sick and still is). So either they neglected to tell me (which is probably the case, OR they didn't know she was sick-- which seems next to impossible, but is probably worse). We dropped our 15lb dog off before 9am for a grooming appointment. They call us at 1pm and say they can't groom him because he is too aggressive and trying to bite them. Our dog is the BIGGEST baby there is, he is an absolute lap dog, he loves people, other dogs, and attention from anyplace he can get it. People always fall in love with him and offer to buy him from us because of his lovable nature. He is groomed monthly (our regular groomer retired) and always has been. In the 4+ years of his life, he has NEVER bitten or even growled at anyone. Never. EVERY groomer we have ever had has loved him and always complimented him as "well behaved and calm" - he has never needed a muzzle - we never had a complaint - he has never shown aggression - he has never bitten or snapped at anyone. Even if that were the case, are groomers not prepared for this with muzzles, techniques, and training? I am not buying their BS. After the call, my wife goes to get him - and they groomed him. By shaving him down to the skin. He also had fleas on him when he got home. He has never had fleas because he takes Trifexis religiously every month. Horrible place. Pet Paradise? No complaints here. This is actually a pretty nice place, and the staff is very helpful and friendly, and the folks that take care of your pets seem to genuinely care for the animals and ensure they have a good time and are properly supervised. I took my dog in for grooming here, just gave them a call and made the appointment, and once I got there I just had to show my dogs vaccinations to ensure he was up to date. The groomer will actually come out and look at your pet with you and ensure that the haircut is just how you want it. The price was pretty low, and I dropped my dog off at 8 and he was done at 12, that was something I've never experienced before. The haircut was just as I had asked it to be, and he smelled great. They did a fantastic job on the grooming. I can't speak to the resort itself, I haven't had to board him there, but no question that's where I'm taking him when I do have to go somewhere. They have a 24 hour webcam set up to show what's going on at the pool and outside. The folks working there were playing with all the dogs, giving them attention, making sure everyone was having a good time, and the staff at the front desk was very nice and helpful. I can't think of anything bad to say about the place, and I will definitely be back. read more

We made reservations online to take our two bichon-mix lap dogs here for the weekend because of a wedding we were attending in St Augustine (we live in Orlando). Their website listed check-in times as late as 9pm. We chose 8pm as our check in time. We received a few emails from the staff confirming our reservation and that they had received the proper vaccination papers. Everything seemed set, or so it seemed. We showed up on Friday evening, at 7:30pm to locked doors. A guy in his 20's came out and said "Sorry, we're closed!" We mentioned the check-in time from the website, he quickly dismissed that and mentioned the closing times on the website. We remained courteous and asked if he could simply check-in our dogs, since they had only been closed since 7pm, & we've already made arrangements at a B&B that doesn't allow pets (we're checking-in tonight), and this would throw our entire weekend into upheaval. Again, he coldly said "We're closed, there's nothing I can do." He told us their Jacksonville location was open 24 hours... Gee, thanks, that's an hour away from here. We asked to speak with a manager, he said he was the manager... That's when I knew there was no moving forward here. This crappy customer service (and the wrong, conflicting info on their website), definitely threw our well-planned weekend into a scramble to find a new place for our dogs and a new place to stay for ourselves that evening. We did find a pet-friendly hotel that night. The next morning, we found a lovely place called the Pacetti Road Pet Spa to board our little ones for the weekend. Disney World for pets. Super friendly staff. They even have a staff member who lives right on the property. Large dogs separated from small dogs make for a happy coexistence between the pets. Last August I was moving & needed to leave my 17+ dog somewhere safe for the day. She had to be hand fed & needed special care since she had cataracts & her balance was off. If I could give no stars I would. My mom took the family dog there for weekend boarding as my grandmother is unable to let him out with no assistance as she is elderly and has a rough time getting around. My mom came to visit me at my university for my last college marching band parent preview day. She dropped him off on Thursday, 8/25 and explicitly said he would need a groom, a nail trim, and a take home bath. When she arrived Monday 8/29 to pick him up not only had he not been groomed, but he was matted and looked like he had been wet but not properly dried, nor brushed. He is a shih tzu and not only that, his feet were YELLOW from urine. URINE. This makes us wonder if he was let out often enough to do his business or if they just left him in his area where it was soiled. The lady there tried saying the dog was groomed Thursday, which was impossible as that was the day he was dropped off. Not only that, his left over food SMELLED LIKE URINE as well, AND he started coughing. My grandmother and aunt took him to the vet only to find out he has kennel cough and that there's been an outbreak of it in this location but had failed to be disclosed to my family. My grandmother is fragile and should not deal with the added stress. She called today wanting a refund from his stay as well as his vet bill to be covered as this was due to their poor sanitation or screening process. Our animals are always up to date on vaccinations and was even vaccinated for kennel cough and yet he still got it. This is going to kill a young puppy or an elderly dog and the staff seems not to care. If it was a Rhoda virus or whooping cough or even COVID outbreak in a day care for people I feel as though the staff might be slightly inclined to care more. But apparently with dogs it's okay to put them at risk and not disclose it. We have a shih tzu which means he already has a tough time breathing and will have to be on antibiotics for two weeks. I honestly hope my grandmother decides to sue this establishment as they neglected our family dog and have refused to acknowledge or take ownership of what they have done. I sincerely hope they either do not have animals or treat their animals as such. I've taken a screenshot of this review and will continue to post it everywhere on the internet until something is done. My dog did not deserve this nor does anyone else's dog. will ABSOLUTELY never be stepping foot back into this building. i have been bringing my golden doodle here since july and this past visit has made me furious. i got called midst groom informing me that my dog had what they thought was possibly a "cyst" or "abscess" rupture while the groomer was brushing out her mats. to be clear... i pet, rub, cuddle my dog everyday, all the time and have not once recently, OR EVER, felt this supposedly "quarter size abscess" on her chest. long story short, i took her to the vet right away just for the kind vet to tell me within 5 minutes of examining her that it was most definitely not an abscess/cyst on her skin and that is was indeed the groomers mistake. the photos inserted below show the almost too perfect circle of hair and skin that had been ripped out of my dog while brushing. after obtaining the information the vet had given me, i now understand that if it were to have been a rupture of some sort then there would have been excess tissue and/or flesh attached to her skin, but in this case her skin was freshly torn with her matted hair with no remains, SICK!!!!! they are indeed refunding me for my grooming visit as well as the vet bill after pretty much demanding it because i was not letting them get away with not taking care of something that was their responsibility. i have been so furious and disgusted for the past few days about this situation and my poor baby :( read more
