I normally don't write reviews for a business. However, when a business goes out of their way to…read moremake the experience special, I am willing to let others know about this business. We are snowbirds in St Augustine for 3 months from Wisconsin. We had heard that Happy Paws Pet Grooming and Rita were absolute the Best Groomer in St Augustine. I agree that Rita is the Best Groomer in St Augustine. We have a mini schnauzer. Maddie is her name. She is almost 11 years old and needs a grooming every 5 to 6 weeks. Not only was this grooming the best cut Maddie ever had, but the grooming experience was also the best. From the reviews it was known that Happy Paws Pet Grooming was very busy, and we may not be able to make an appointment. Well, Rita went out of her way to get Maddie in for a grooming, Take the chance and try to make an appointment, it is worth it. Several other reviews here thought this was their mini schnauzer best cut. I would agree with them. Upon arriving, the first thing Rita and her assistant did was to kneel down to Maddie's level and gave her some loving. Most times taking Maddie to a new groomer will cause Maddie to show her fear by shivering. This did not happen with Rita, Rita put Maddie on a bed, not in a dog crate, while we check in. Maddie was ready to pick up is 2 hours. When we came back to pick up Maddie, she was on the bed, not in crate. Thanks Rita, for making this a pleasant experience for Maddie and us. I can remember having another groomer in St Augustine taking over 6 hours to groom Maddie. We were expecting a call after 3 hours. The call never came. We finally went to the groomer's business only to find a shivering Maddie just getting her grooming started. This means that Maddie was in a crate for hours before her grooming. Thanks again Rita for Maddie's best mini schnauzer cut and making Maddie feel welcome and comfortable when we arrived. You put Maddie at ease and you also put us at ease.

I have two Pembroke Welsh Corgis, and they are both fluffy. Pudge is a blackhead tricolor fluffy…read moreand has an amazingly dense, ridiculously fluffy, lion-like coat. Which is kind of a bummer in the hot summers. He doesn't want to move around as much, so we get him a puppy cut every April or May. This is hysterical, because he looks like a GIGANTIC PUPPY. Pudge is not a dog kinda dog -- and he's a shit stirrer. The previous owner/groomer (Park Avenue Paws) always had loose dogs in front, which made me SO nervous that we actually carried 35 pounds of dog in over our shoulders. I didn't want him to start anything and I didn't want any other dogs making an escape to 207. But we kept taking him there because she did a good job and he walked out smelling like a candle. No doubt, it was stressful because of the loose dog situation -- and I didn't take Pudge as often as I would've liked. So color me shocked, when I walked in to Salty Paws to find... no gate to step over, and no free range packs of 8 pound poodle-like creatures. Oh thank dog! They were laughing because Pudge's tio carried him in over his shoulder, per our SOP, thinking that there were loose dogs around. I now feel SO MUCH better about taking him there to get groomed. For example, they waited for another owner con doggo to leave before escorting Pudge out so he wouldn't be stressed or stress anyone else out. I really appreciated that gesture! I don't mind waiting! I know my dog is an ass! They also said that they do walk-in pawticures (aka nails). We were taking Pudge to get them clipped at the vet (and he wails like a baby), but I'd prefer for him to get them dremelled since it helps shrink their wicks over time. Now that I know that taking him to the groomer is no longer a stressful event for both of us, we will definitely be taking the corgitos in for pawticures on the regular! Pudge looks perfectly shorn, smells great, nails perfect. Surprisingly, I did NOT hear him barking when I came in. He looked pretty chill actually. Total cost for Pudge's topiary session: $75 (medium sized dog, with a TON of fur) Pudge, obviously, does not approve any place that gives baths and pawticures -- but he did appreciate all the loving he got. Luckily, Pudge doesn't have Yelp! The uprights give this place 5 stars.

Groomers do a fair job (great on our Golden, fair on our 2 small dogs) but customer service…read moreattitude and policies leave a lot to be desired. They want you to sign a contract agreeing to a 50% charge if you miss an appt. ??? Not user friendly.
