I have been going to Soft Touch for several months now. I have seen both Elissa and Sina. Both of them are awesome. I am seeing good results from their work. A good quantity of permanent removal and the hairs that do come back are taking longer to grow and are much softer. I am very happy with my results thus far. Update: a little less than 2 years and I have very little regrowth. Started the process having to shave every day. Now I don't shave my face at all. I've been seeing Sina pretty much exclusively. Sina is absolutely fantastic and their office is very professional! They always text you the day before your appointment to confirm and are flexible and easy to book appointments with. Sina pays great attention to detail, works super fast (unlike another electrologist who I used to do to, who would chat a lot with me and I felt like cleared my skin a lot more slowly). She always applies numbing cream, cleans your skin after so you don't have scars or acne buildup, and also offers ice packs to bring the swelling down if you need to. I heard they are wonderful, but my experience with Elissa was sub-par. I went twice now and don't think I will go back. The first time the front waiting room was super-hectic and actively unrelaxing. It was a madhouse. The appointment itself was okay but I didn't feel the results were as good as I've had elsewhere. The second time....worse! I was the only one in the waiting room, a little bit early (10 min) to respect the tight schedule. Elissa comes out of her room and walks by me. She pauses and asks who I am there to see. Now, she has A LOT of clients, and I have only been to her once before so I do not expect her to remember me, but when I rely that I am there to see HER, she gives me a dirty look and walks away without another word! Seriously? Seriously!!! And then during the appoitment she's telling me some stuff like, the electrolysis isn't killing the hair follicle at all...just making the hair finer in texture... Is that true? That isn't what my other electrolysist said is going on... I don't trust this woman anymore, plus she was unpleasant. Then to top it off, the reception staff, who you have to give payment to, seems to be always gossiping when I am trying to get out of there. Having to work to get their attention to give them $$ makes me want to walk out without paying!! read more

I've been going through the process of electrolysis for 8 weeks now and I have to say both Ursula and Elyssa are THE BEST. Ursula is so funny and entertaining, but she also really cares about you as a client. Due to Ursula being on sabatical for a few months I've switched over to Elyssa and could not have fallen into better hands. On my first session with Elyssa we were off to a slower start as I have very course hair on my neck and I'm prone to ingrowns hairs. Elyssa spent about 15 or 20 minutes extra time on me and did so complimentary to make up for the time it takes to get just the right setting, needle type, and for lack of a better word pace. I thought that was so kind of her, as it's not customary. Elyssa is very passionate about her work and understands that for many of us this process isn't simply about hair removal. She understands that many women who have struggled with excessive hair growth often have gone through so many measures to get rid of it and it takes a toll on your self esteem as a woman. I personally have alot of damage on my neck and chin from tweezing and picking. (TMI I know) I'm coming up on my fourth sesson with Elyssa, (8 sessions total) and I've seen a significant change in the texture of my hair. I've gone from bristle coarse to baby hair soft. Elyssa also recommended a Skin Ceuticals mask which I used this weekend and have already noticed some of the dark patches of hyperpigmentation are begining to clear. Whether that's a result of the electrolysis, or mask, or me no longer tweezing...I don't know. All I can say for sure is that it's working. Hair removal by electrolysis is just a rite of passage for the women in my family. My other sisters have tried laser, waxing, etc, to no avail and have all come back to the only permanent method of hair removal: electrolysis. After I got my first real paying job and finally had the money to start regular treatment, I found a place close to work on the peninsula. I went for almost a year, every week for 30 min. Being my first electrolysis experience, I didn't know what to expect as far as progress and was content that I was at least hairless for a few days and my ingrown hairs had lessened. So when my mom came to visit over Christmas this year, I was surprised but actually relieved to hear her dismay. She was like, "How long have you been going? Wow, every week? And it still looks like this? Does she have her macine turned up all the way??" My hairs were still coarse and flourishing, but I was trying to be patient, knowing that the process can take time. After the reality check with my mother, and spending over $3000 and 20+ hours, I decided to move on. After careful review of the options downtown SF that would work with my commute, and after speaking on the phone to Ursula at Soft Touch, I decided to give them a try. I have to say that I was impressed with Ursula's care not to bad mouth my previous technician. I was pretty pissed that I had wasted so much money and time, yet Ursula wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt that maybe the other technician didn't realize that what she was doing to me was prolonging my treatment. If a technician plucks instead of waiting for the current to release the hair, it's almost like you are just plucking. Two steps forward, one step back. It's gonna be awhile. Four months after finding my new salon, I have to say that I am extremely happy. I have had treatments from both Ursula and Alyssa and they are both very skilled. Ursula's treatments are very relaxing with your eyes covered and soft music in the back ground. Alyssa is very personable, warm and interesting to talk to. They are both very skilled and add their own finishing touches to their treatment which nourish and revitalize the skin. Instead of going every week, I go every two weeks. I don't even have hairs for a week and when they do grow in they are softer than they have ever been. I figure at this rate I should be done in a year, and I'm going half as often. It's great! And having the benefit of multiple skilled electrologists, I can nearly always get in when I want to. One last note, my boyfriend likes it too because I'm not all prickly when we kiss. I only wish I could give this place 10 stars. All the women that work here are friendly and sweet - Mila, Paulina, Elissa, etc. My electrolysis was done exclusively with Elissa. She is absolutely amazing at what she does - professional, friendly, compassionate and most importantly - truly skilled and educated in her craft. I started seeing Elissa for electrolysis treatment about 2 1/2 years ago, and since then I can honestly say my life has changed. I started out going once a week for about a month and a half. Then once every two weeks, then once every three, four, five and at the end, every six-eight weeks. Thanks to Elissa, I no longer have to worry about getting rid of unwanted facial hair EVERY single time I get ready in the morning. She's completely made that problem disappear for me. As a light-skinned person with jet black hair, this has always been a problem that has plagued me and taken hours upon hours of my time to resolve at home. Since I began electrolysis, however, this has changed completely. I spend almost no time at home dealing with this and Elissa has gotten rid of 95% of the unwanted hair. When we began treatment, she told me she could guarantee a 70-75% reduction, but the results we got were much better. Throughout all the treatments, Elissa was always as gentle as possible (yes, it hurts, but that can't be helped) and we also managed to get to know each other quite well. On my last couple of visits with her (I only stopped going because I moved out of the state), Elissa took the time to ask about my move, my future job, and everyone important to me (my sisters, parents, best friends, etc). BACKGROUND: Although I probably have less body hair than the average woman, I hate the hair that I have & have had permanent laser hair removal on my legs, bikini line, underarms, etc. As a result, my body hair is now so thin that I only need to shave once every 2-3 weeks & do a maintenance laser every couple of years. While doing my usual "maintenance" laser, I found out that my new technician was using a laser with a new technology that can get rid of light-colored hair too. I was thrilled. Although most of my hair is dark, I have peach fuzz on my upper lip. Because traditional lasers don't work on light hair, I never could get it removed before. I also have VERY sensitive skin near my lips & couldn't wax/tweeze it either so I was forced to let the peach fuzz be. Now that I learned it could be corrected, I was all for it & had my face zapped as well. To my surprise, the treatment not only failed to work, but it caused my blonde mustache hairs to grow back in brown. I have a weird obsession with unwanted body hair. I actually have a reoccurring nightmare in which I am making out with a man & he discovers a hair (which, in my dream is very long) while kissing my neck & he assumes it is just a stray hair from my head but, when he goes to pull it away, realizes it is attached to my chin. The dream ends with a reaction from "The Crying Game" & me waking up horrified & panicked by the embarrassment of it all. I know it sounds ridiculous but I actually have this nightmare often so you can see why I would be DETERMINED to get a now-brown mustache removed. I did my research & found out that hair darkening is a rare side effect of laser hair removal & that the best way to permanently remove it was through electrolysis so I looked for a place nearby & booked an appointment. REVIEW OF SOFT TOUCH ELECTROLYSIS: Elyssa spoke to me in a manner that swung between insulting & patronizing. For ex., when I arrived, she questioned me while I was still in the waiting room from another room. I told her that I wanted to work on my chin and upper lip hair & in response, she walked over to me to take a look & then said as she walked away: "I don't see much of a problem there but what I REALLY want to work on our those eyebrows of yours." WTF? Admittedly, my brows are a mess right now but it's up to me what I should change about my face -- not her. What made it worst is that she didn't want to discuss what service she could provide for my eyebrows so why did she make the comment in the first place? Later she complimented me for signing my name. I was also confused by her explanation of what to expect from the procedure. She made it sound like she would only be able to lighten the hair & not get rid of it completely. I don't think that is what she meant to say because, from what I read, I already understood that progress on the area would be slow because all of the hairs are on different growth cycles & can't all be treated at the same time & that each treated hair will slowly lighten before dying off thus the density, thickness and color of the hair will reduce gradually. But that's not what she said & it was confusing. I still wonder if she meant to say what I just explained or if she just is truly incapable of doing what electrolysis is supposed to do. Yet I REALLY wanted a close by location because traveling far for a 15 minute appointment would be too inconvenient otherwise and I wanted to do this. I TRULY WANTED to give her a benefit of the doubt, hoping that I could just withstand 15 minute increments of her. In fact, I was STILL planning to work with her when out came the last straw. Although they accept credit cards & told me over the phone that it wouldn't be a problem, she felt that I should split the cost of the merchant fee since the charge for a 15 minute service is so low ($40). I paid the extra dollar but told her that due to a personality conflict between us, I did not want to come back (character limitations won't let me express just how unpleasant working with her was). Now, to her credit, she tried to make amends. She recommended I try the other esthetician which I was going to do but, as I walked back to get her contact info, rather than hand me the card & shut up, she offered to pay me my dollar back &, when I refused, a full refund. I know it SOUNDS nice but it really wasn't. It really wasn't. The convo got awkward & I ended up refusing the refund and leaving without the contact info. I have a rash over my lip now. I don't blame Elyssa for it. I do have sensitive skin so it's not unusual & if dealing with a rash every 6 weeks would ultimately lead to no hair, I'd take it. I also find their prices very affordable & am happy they offered 15 minute time slots. So, to be fair, I'm not going to slam them completely. But the service was subpar -- so much so that I couldn't picture withstanding 15 minute increments of it in the future -- so I'd have to pass on this place. read more

During my first appointment with Elissa, I stressed my concern over getting possible hyper-pigmentation, to which she said and I quote "not with this machine you won't". However, after only two appointments with her, I have just that! In my mind not having full disclosure is not professional. She also likes to make small talks during treatments, which I do appreciate because it sort of takes my mind off the painful procedure. However, she should really consider wearing a face mask. Sina is so great! I have PCOS and have been dealing with unwanted coarse hairs since junior high. I've been plucking and picking for so long that my skin was damaged, dark, and prone to breakouts. Once I learned about electrolysis, specifically that it is the only permanent hair removal procedure, I tried out Sina and have seen amazing results. Sina is really thorough and concise with her work. It's been just under a year and most days I don't even think about the hair in that area. I'm no longer embarrassed of my skin or packing on the make up in that area to hide grown out hairs. I agree with some of these reviews, Elissa is a bit absent-minded, always busy, overbooked, but she does a great job! I had electrolysis done on my upper lip, and only after 4 sessions I no longer have my mustache. It feels great! For under $200 I will never have to wax, use creams, and worry that people are staring at my black lip hair. Elissa is very knowledgeable, the procedure always went quickly and felt very clean. She is also very honest. I originally came in asking about electrolysis procedure on my lower legs, but she suggested to do laser hair removal instead because her sessions would have been way too expensive for the amount of hair I had. Definitely recommend her. Just prepare to be patient in the waiting room, there is a lot of traffic, talking in other languages, phone calls, etc. read more
