London Gatwick is definitely growing, which makes the Sofitel a nice choice in North Terminal. Excellent service. Take the shuttle quickly to South Terminal and British Airways terminals. Always an easier experience than Heathrow for nonstops to London.

I'm absolutely disgusted with the lack of respect and friendliness at this hotel and the bar and lounge. I was not greeted at the door, just looked at without a smile. The staff treated me as if I were just in the way. I'm currently sitting in the restaurant/lounge area and have been for 35 minutes, it took 30 minutes for my appetizer which was nothing more than baby gem wedges with dressing and bacon. After I ordered, the waiter asked if I wanted anything else, I went to respond with "that's everything, thank you" and he cut me off "saying thank you" and walking away before I could even finish the word "everything." My mom also ordered coffee with double baileys and they brought her black coffee with milk and sugar on the side. I will not suggest this hotel to anyone, nor will I stay here again.

Thankfully bloc hotel is located inside the airport, which will provide us the much needed rest for being up almost 24 hours to catch the next flight in the morning. The VIP room is a corner room with a full view of the runway. I deduct 1/2 star due to the defective shower door that caused a massive leak onto the bathroom floor and maintenance engineer informed us this happened to be the last room they haven't repaired the issue yet.

The hotel's signage isn't clear, and there are extra doors which make the lift to the hotel reception less visible. THE RECEPTION IS ON THE 3rd FLOOR next to Security Checkpoint. Front desk assistance is really helpful. After feeling lost then locating them, check in is simple with a booking. Following 2 days of delayed flights, I was able to have a relieving, but extremely short stay on an agency's credit. They have cool and modern, minimalist, space saving concept rooms. Lights and blinds are controlled by an iPad. Half of the room walls appear to be suede padded, even the ceiling. Don't let this make you think you're crazy. Easy checkout is also available on the iPad and the cardkey drop box is at reception. This bloc hotel location makes an ideal choice for an emergency overnighter caused by flight delays.

I am really mixed on this hotel. Full disclosure is that I am a Hilton loyalist and get upgraded…read moreperks when I stay with them. However, that badge of honor has been earned through staying in their hotel rooms all over the world more than 60 nights/year for many years so I have a broad database for comparison. First, the good: 1. It is very convenient to Gatwick Airport. You can walk under cover to the South Terminal and take a 2 min free train from there to the North Terminal if needed. I love these types of hotels for the convenience they offer, when just needing a bed for the night coupled with the convenience of catching an early flight. 2. The employees here are fantastic. I ran into Tyreese at Check-in and Robyn at the bar and both were great personalities to have as customer-facing. They were courteous, welcoming and helpful. Hilton is lucky to have them as employees. 3. At the moment, the executive lounge is undergoing renovation, so it was closed to me during my visit. I would normally have access to this for complementary food and beverage. In its place, I was allowed to use the lobby lounge known as Amy's bar. Between 6 and 8 PM, I was given complementary access to their tapas menu And complementary beverages and house pours. I think that this was fortuitous as I would not normally eat in a hotel lobby bar but during this visit, I ordered two things off their tapas menu. The aged ham on tomato toast, and the blistered peppers. Both served with a side of sea salt. Both as good if not better than the same things that I have had in Madrid. I was really impressed with this for being in an airport hotel lobby bar. Kudos to them for that. And had their executive lounge been open, I would never have gotten to try these great snacks. Now, the not so good: 1. This hotel is relatively aged and and in need of an update. It is a nondescript, imposing concrete structure that has some glass, skylight features and a communist era look that I am sure was state of the art, 40 or 50 years ago. The rooms themselves, while clean and comfortable, also seem dated in color and furniture. Frankly, I don't mind any of this, when I am traveling alone for business. However, if you were traveling for fun or with, your significant other, this would not be a place I would stay at to impress. 2. The loyalist benefits here are a bit odd. For instance, my room upgrade was to a suite, which really was a large room with multiple beds in it. This was a little awkward, since I was traveling alone, and it felt like I was in a large dorm room meant for six people. I wouldn't really call this a negative but it is also not really a usable upgrade for the solo business traveler. 3. Because this property is connected to the airport, it is pretty isolated from anything around you. This means that you are going to have to use an Uber or a rental car to get anywhere or you are going to have to use a food delivery service if you do not want to eat at the limited Hotel options, which are a single restaurant and a bar or room service all serving pretty much the same menu. For a traveler looking to just have a bed for the night, this isn't a bad option if you don't mind paying for the convenience of food delivery or you are OK with a standard hotel Hamburger. If, however, you are picky about what you will eat, you might be in for disappointment, because the options are somewhat limited. As stated above, however, I can vouch for the tapas at the bar, which were excellent. Overall, I would stay here and have a perfectly comfortable expectation with this as a convenient airport hotel option that facilitates convenience of catching an early flight or provides adequate shelter upon arrival on a late flight in. It does offer all the basics and covers the necessary Hilton standards of comfort. If, however, you are coming to London for pleasure, I would probably give this a pass and make my way more towards central London.

There is a store that sells liquor next to the McDonald's, and it's a gas station, too. It's conveniently located next to the train station so the location is just amazing. Oh! They also have resturants in the hotel. 2 of them The hotel is gorgeous, the rooms are very nice, the beds are super comfortable, and the customer service is exceptional. Shout out to Miles. He displayed such tact and care. He knew his job and he did it well. I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. It was a wonderful experience from the time we checked into the time that we left. Speaking of, we checked out to check back in because we flew to another destination, and they were kind enough to hold our bags for us. And they do this as a courtesy, which is something to consider when you're booking a hotel and planning to travel to other destinations and do not want to travel with all your luggage.

No signage or walkways from the bus stop. We walked in the road leading to the hotel parking lot, which isn't safe. The bus going to the terminal isn't free.

A nice gentleman came out to the car and helped us with our luggage. We booked about a week in advance which was late notice so we didn't have a choice of rooms. We stayed in the Scotney Room which was still very comfortable and had an extra large bath with a clawfoot tub. The room overlooked one of the many gardens. After drinks, we enjoyed a multi-course dinner in the Mulberry Room which was excellent...top notch service and food. We had breakfast there the next morning before heading to the airport. For the price, I'd expect a little nicer rooms. We had the Anne Boleyn suite, and at first glance it's gorgeous. Turning on the lamp, we noticed it was filled with spider webs. All of the tchochkes in the room looked cheap, and were pretty beaten up and haggard looking- not quite like heirloom items- just old and busted. I pulled back the drapes to take in the gorgeous view of the moat, and the curtains down below looked as though they had been chewed on for years by the vacuum cleaner. It was impossible to reach room service; luckily the kitchen was right outside our building's door, so I just went down there and ordered for myself. Also, we were only given 3 coffee pods (and I have no idea how old the non-refrigerated milks were sitting out). By the time I figured out how to work the coffee machine, I had gone through all the pods. I just don't think it's worth it for an airport stay. Maybe if you need a pretty backdrop for photos, consider it.
