Huge shout-out and thank you to Lene for fixing the hot mess that was created by my previous stylist at a different salon! Before coming to Sofi's, my hair was 3 different colors (both warm- and cool-toned) with AWFUL partial highlights that were the complete opposite of what I asked my last stylist to do. Luckily, my friend showed me Lene's Instagram and I immediately knew she'd be the one to bring my hair back to life! After going back and forth through DMs and discussing in person about what I envisioned for my next hair-do, she DELIVERED and went above and beyond! She knew exactly how to bring natural warmth back into my hair and she did such a great job cutting my layers that my head felt 5 lbs lighter walking out of the salon. I can't picture going to anyone else after discovering her! Highly recommend, 10/10! I just deducted a star because the price a bit up there...but you get what you pay for. I write this as I sit in the waiting area at Sofi's in Cranford. I would like to preface by saying that I've been to Sofi's in Westfield and received wonderful care and prompt service, so this is no reflection on the other locations. I had a 6pm appointment and was asked to come in at 6:30 because they were running a little late. It is now 7:20 and I have yet to have my hair even washed. I'm waiting because I need the cut for an important day but I mean...come on. I would've rather you cancelled my appt and asked me to reschedule than to start me an hour and a half late. This draft was written in late 2019 but this is why I haven't gone back to the Cranford location. I will continue to frequent the Westfield location with enjoyment but it was such a disappointment and if it wasn't for the fact that the other location is phenomenal, I don't know where I'd go! read more

Im not sure how you can get your hair cut 3 different times and still have dead/dry/very hard and frizzy ends with split ends. But this is exactly why i wont be back. I came in for a color correction/Balayage and haircut in May with Ligia. She did a GREAT job. The cost was $350. Pricey as hell, but she did what i wanted. I came back in June because i wanted my hair lightened more and because my ends were severely damaged. I was charged $370 this time. Which shocked me but what was i going to do? My hair was nice and just what i wanted. I came back a week later for what was supposed to be a FREE follow up glaze and blow dry and i asked her to trim my ends because they were dead and i had multiple split ends on each strand of hair. I was charged $70 for my "free glaze & blow dry". My hair was nice but when i washed it the next day, my ends were not cut enough. I still had about 2 inches of dead hair that was falling on my clothes!!!!! ridiculous after paying $80 for each haircut. 3 hair cuts in less than 2 months. Thats unbelievable. I had no choice but to use a razor comb to razor off the dead ends ALL Over my head. There was no way i was spending $1 on a haircut and no way i was going back there begging a hair stylist to give me a decent haircut with no split ends Ligia and the other girls are all so nice, and so is management but they are OVERBOOKED. It takes 8-9 hours for a hair session because they are working on 3-4 other girls at the SAME TIME. So most of that time is spent sitting there waiting while they are doing someone elses hair. read more

This place was really dirty, all of the brushes at my (experienced) hairdressers table were caked and I mean CAKED with hair and I felt so gross having her use those hair covered brushes on me. That said, she did give me a nice cut..but I felt gross the whole time. The woman who washed and brushed my hair pulled so hard on my wet hair when she brushed my tangled locks, I wanted to cry. It is damaging to your hair when someone does that! Worse, she took that clump of hair that was in the unsterile comb she used on me, and threw it in the middle of the floor. I had to watch my sad hair clump sit in the middle of the floor during the entire haircut. She also didn't crack a smile the entire time I was there and seemed really grumpy and offputting. The area under my chair wasn't swept between clients, so I had to tiptoe into and out of my hair because the floor beneath me was covered in someone elses hair. Since the hairdresser did a nice job with my cut, I would give it 2 stars, but due to the lack of sterilization and the fact she used super dirty brushes on my hair, I want to give them a zero. "Any used instruments (brushes, combs, scissors, razors) have to be sterilized between clients. If scissors are not properly sterilized and come into contact with bacteria, germs can grow and live on your scalp. " read more

I agree with Gina's review. Extremely overpriced. All I asked for was some face framing highlights and it was close to $300. I was charged extra to tone my hair twice and it's still brassy. They up charge everything then you are shocked when it's time to pay and your hair doesn't look much different from when you came in. I unfortunately won't be back. read more

Worst hair dye experience i have had, it was a 6 hour for a simple cut and color and definitely over priced for what you get. Never again.

I was new to the area a year and a half ago and received a welcome wagon coupon for a free haircut at Sofi's. Veronica or (V as she is called) was assigned as my stylist and I can honestly say she gave me the greatest haircut I could have ever asked for. She listened to what I wanted played off my requests. I was in total love when I left the salon. I had long hair and it was shapely and sexy, more than I expected! Cut to a year and a half later when I decided it was time for a big chop. I made an appointment with V of course. I came in and showed her a few pics of what I wanted and told her to basically do what she wished. She made an initial chop of about 12 inches and then went to work. As she razored and shaped my hair, she shared with me some tips about how to blow out my fringed bangs without a brush and tease my roots so it was perfectly voluminous. Again, I left thrilled. A week or so later I decided I wanted a few more layers cut in my hair. V effortlessly created a beach-y tousled look that I adore. After all these years of great haircuts, I'm finally giving Maria a big public Thank You for some really lovely styles! Maria has done my hair for many years now, and I always have a reliably excellent experience; She is focused and incredibly thorough, going over and over the cut as she proceeds, resulting in a beautiful style every time. I get complimented often, whether I've just walked out of the salon or three months later after Maria's original cut has grown into a longer yet still lovely style. What could be better than getting a blowout while drinking a glass of wine? (The manager will also and always ask you if you would like or need ANYTHING- and he will even run across the street for you to grab you a snack). I mean, talk about service. This place is wonderful. I was so nervous about finding a new hairdresser when we moved (I literally didn't cute my hair for 7 months while we were living in India because I just wasn't sure who I should go to). So when we finally got back to the states I did a ton of research. Some places had decent reviews but the photos of their cuts made me think that they would be better off doing my grandma's hair than mine (I'm only 28 I have to stay trend while I can - before it starts to embarrass my kids and stuff). So I went ahead and picked Sofi's and I couldn't have been happier with the out come. I have the worst memory for names - so I could be wrong but I think my hairdressers name was Nicole - basically if you go in there and see a gorgeous younger girl with long brown hair, thats her! She probably gave me one of the best hair cuts of my life. Literally she new my hair type with out me saying a word - which might sound easy but I have very fine hair, but a lot of it so a lot of hairdressers will just say "oh you have really thick hair" which isn't so - I have zero volume. So when she was looking at my hair and commented about the cut needing to add volume for my fine hair I wanted to kiss her. I am torn about this place and how to rate it. I find the staff very nice, welcoming and accommodating. I do like how my color came out after the 3rd time going there. I showed Christine a photo of what I wanted my color to look like. She did tell me it was going to be a multiple stage process. On my 1st visit I spent 8 hrs there and wasn't quite happy with the outcome. I took her word as far as the trusting your colorist and the process. With a few correction over 6 months and many hrs spent waiting with each appointment, I am happy with the color. What I don't like is the all day process for any appointment you go in there for. She is way too busy and I find that she over books herself. I do believe this place is pricey but it will have to do until I can find another place. read more

Prior to my scheduled appointment I had a consultation with the stylist. We discussed my color correction goal and what she needed to do to achieve it. The day I got my hair done the salon was busy. My stylist had multiple clients lapping over each other and she could not devote her full attention to just one. She kept coming back, did a few highlights then said I'll be right back. I was there for 8.5 hrs for a babylights session. The right side of my head was lightened more than the left- I'm guessing the bleach was processing for longer. The glaze also effected the color from side to side. The color didn't come out the way we originally discussed during the consultation and I believe it's because she was severely overbooked. When I asked her about how it was she said it's always like that. In my opinion they need to improve on their scheduling process so the clients can have a more personal experience with the stylists. On another note- I do think the stylists are good there, but the scheduling ruins it. read more

I was able to get an appointment super fast. The staff was super nice people and seemed knowledgable of what they were doing. However time managment was not the best. At times I was left sitting on my own simply waiting, while my stylist was fixing her own hair, while the timer was going off. I was happy with the results at first, but it only took one hair wash to end up with super bright red hair (which i had to fix). Also I ended up with color stains all over my neck, face etc. Not cool. The staff like I said was super attentive. I was always offered something to drink, coffee, even the gentleman from the front desk offered to get me some lunch, but not coming back here again, I am sure there are better places out there than this. read more

I've gone to this salon for roughly 2 years. From my first visit, they were rude (accusing me of using box color on my hair, when I told them exactly what PROFESSIONAL color was on my head and where I had been getting it done) and were not considerate of the customers' time. I continued to go back because she did a really nice job on my hair that first time. Each of my appointments after (5), my hair didn't come out as I requested. They were rushed, although I'd be there several hours, most of which were spent waiting. My final visit there I got home to realize two large sections of my hair (the side and back) had been burnt off by bleach. I have been here twice and I am never going back. The first time I went I got basically a small trim and a bang cut. My stylist didn't talk to me at all and made me feel a bit unwelcome. The haircut looked decent so I didn't mind that until the charged me $65 for it. The next time I went i only went out of convenience because my they were gonna give me an appointment that day and I was getting ready to go on vacation. I went in thinking I would just get the trim and ask for it to not be styled in order to keep the price down. Regardless of me having an appointment they made me wait a while but I didn't mind because a man who I believe is the owner brought me coffee and was very nice. After getting my hair washed, I sat in the chair and without speaking to me or asking me what I wanted the stylist began blow drying my hair. I felt really uncomfortable to say anything so I let her do it and figured she was just going to cut it dry. When she finished blow drying she showed me it in the mirror like it was done so I uncomfortably said "aren't you going to cut it?" Then she yelled up at the front desk saying "you didn't tell me she wanted a haircut!". If she had consulted with me she would have known exactly what I wanted. So at this point she cuts it dry and it comes out okay. Once again they charge me $65. This place is just unwelcoming and overpriced. read more

I tried Sofi's because a friend of mine loves the place and her color always looks great. Maybe I went on an off day. I've been getting blonde highlights ALL my life. I'm naturally dirty blonde so I'm told it's actually pretty easy and standard highlighting my hair with blonder highlights. I went to Sofi herself I believe because I figured she was the owner and the best. When we were done it looked like i had hardly any highlights! It was like a joke! I spent all this money for nothing and ended up going somewhere else to get my highlights redone. So disappointing. It looked like barely anything was done. I could have asked for more afterwards and complained but i had been there for so long at this point between waiting and the actual process that I was so drained i just wanted to get out of there and couldn't even think of staying longer to get more highlights. In addition to that I waited forever for my appointment (i think they overbooked or something) and while I was getting it done and waiting for highlights to process children were running around everywhere and loud. I think they were related to owner. sorry but when I'm paying all this money and at a hair salon I want to relax and feel pampered. Instead this made me so uncomfortable. I work in NYC as beauty publicist and have worked with everyone from Nick Arrojo to Oribe to Edward Tricomi. I like getting my hair done in Jersey because I live there and it's cheaper and usually just as good of quality work. So yes my standards are probably high but i know hair so my review is legit. Again maybe it was an off day because again my friend's hair always looks great. But I will definitely not be going back LOL. read more

If I could rate Sofi's a 10, I would! I can't say enough good things about the experience I had at Sofi's in Cranford today. After a nightmarish experience at another salon shortly after moving to the area, I finally found the courage (after six months!) to try a new salon. I am so glad that it was Sofi's that I chose. Ligia was my stylist and I've never had another stylist in my life who was so understanding of my wants and needs, while also willing to make suggestions, be creative and have some fun with my hair. She took plenty of time to listen to my story, discuss my desires with my hair, and was incredibly conscious of my previous experience and that I was a little nervous. I felt totally pampered while I was at Sofi's and enjoyed conversation with Ligia and other members of the staff, including one of the owners and honestly felt like I was a part of the family - something I really value in small businesses. Ligia was very conscientious while working on my hair and the effort she put it truly paid off - I think this is the best color I've ever had! I feel like I have a whole new head of hair tonight which is exactly what I was looking for. I could not be happier and I will absolutely be back again, and for years to come! Then finally a girl took me to shampoo my hair.she started putting the keratin and left in between for 40 min. to work with other customer,and then in a real hurry she finished everything in 1 hr.And now after 1 week my hairs are again back to curls and frizz. read more

I went to Sofi's for hair extensions. Angie met me first for a consultation and showed me the different types and lengths and explained the process. After scheduling an appointment it took about two and a half to three hours to put them in and have a framing haircut. She styled the hair beautifully that lasted for days and gave me tips on how to maintain the style and take care of my hair. It looks great!! Angie is dedicated and focused and listens to what I wanted.They're expensive and so is the upkeep but Angie makes it all worthwhile. read more

The moment you enter this beautiful establishment you realize they know what they are doing. The customers who are finishing up look like they are from a magazine - vibrant and sexy hair colors and haircuts that look like they were crafted specifically for each customer. It's a little bit more expensive than a barbershop, and it's worth every single penny. After the most amazing shampooing of my life (with a hot towel for my face, scalp massage and a hand massage) I sat down in Christine's chair not knowing that my (hair) life was about to change. I am tired of super short haircuts - I've got pretty thick hair, a lot of it and a lot of natural waves and have tried dozens of barbershops and salons and until I came to Sofi's NOBODY has been able to figure out how to give me proper haircut. Some would look good for a few days, then I'd find random longer pieces popping out and my haircuts would look grown-out by the end of the week. I explained to Christine my haircutting history and worries over a glass of wine, while she played with my hair. Then as if she had had a visit from a muse, a huge grin came over her face and she winked as she told me, "I got this". This hair ninja/ scissor wizard began cutting my hair with surgical like precision taking into account every feature of my hair. By the time she was done, I had to pick my jaw off the floor as she showed me my new "do" and how to style it. I have had 3 haircuts with her. She remembers you and your hair instantly and knows exactly what needs to be done. She figures out how to use your natural texture and waves to make a haircut that not only looks good at the salon; it stays looking fresh and styles easy for many weeks to come. Last time, when she finished she was like "You are good to go", I was like, "No, I am good to grow". And that is the truth!! As a school teacher, I had never had a student comment on my looks. The day after my first haircut with Christine, more than 10 students told me what an amazing haircut I had and one girl even wanted the information for the salon. If I could have given this place a negative star rating I would have. Notice how all these previous reviews include time management? Finally if you want to be bait and switxhed and come out looking like crap for your prom and paying alit for it go right to Sofi's. Well my experience takes the cake. I made an appointment or my daughter a month ago for her prom hair do. I created that appointment with the only hair stylist worth going to visit which was Jessica. My daughter got to her apt and was told Jessica was a little behind and to take a seat. My daughter is painfully shy so she just went along with everything they told her to do. She waited a while and then was taken to the back to get her hair washed. She told me they took an exceptionally long time washing her hair, I imagine to try and give Jessica time to finish. When she was done washing she was sat down with another person to blow dry her hair only, that's what my daughter was told, which was a lie because my daughter over heard Jessica having a conversation with another employee . The employee said to her OK do you feel better bow that we put off line of your customers to another person? My daughter remained in this girls chair for over 3 hours for a simple blow dry and curls. They pawn her off on some inexperienced apprentice as they always do when they get backed up. I was looking at the clock and realized my daughter is not going to make it home in time for prom! I called Sofia because my daughter kept me in the loop as to what was going on, I asked to speak to a manager, and I didn't even get one! I have been going to Sofia for over 5 years, so I know who the managers are, and instead of apologizing about there time delay they said that I should have known Jessica doesn't do updos! So curls and the right side bobipinned is and up do now a days??? Unbelievable! If you want to be bait and switched, go right to Sofis! They promise you the world and then you cone out looking like crap and paying good money for it! I will never return to this joke of a salon and neither will the rest of my family or friends or even people I meet on the street because this isn't the first time this happened but it ceentainly will be the last! read more

Worst hair salon that I have EVER been to. A friend of mine was getting married and goes to this salon all the time. So the last time she was there for a hair appointment she scheduled for herself and her bridesmaids to have there hair done before the wedding. Well wedding day came and we all showed up first thing in the morning to have our hair done and little to our knowledge the incompetent person that schedule us never put it into the system. Six of us were not guaranteed to have our hair done in time since there didn't have enough staff on hand to handle it. You would think someone would be apologetic or compensate their screw up. Only three people ended up staying the rest of us found other salons that would take walk ins. The bride was also completely unhappy with the way that the stylist did her hair and would have had her fix it if there was time. Sofi's should be shamed for ruining someone's special day. IF you want you hair done for a special occasion don't take your chances with this place. read more
