I catered my daughter's graduation party last week. Everything about the experience was amazing! Daniella took my order and was so helpful about portions and all the extras. Deliver was on time and professional. The food was amazing!!! My guests were very impressed by this taco bar I highly recommend Sophia Taqueria!!! read more

The food is good, and the ambiance is decent. However, I wouldn't recommend this place for a date night if you're looking to enjoy a long, relaxed dinner together. They tend to rush customers out, even when the restaurant isn't busy, which takes away from the overall experience. When I'm spending well over $125 for two people before tip, I expect to be able to enjoy my meal without feeling hurried. Another issue I've had is that they offer guacamole as if it's a complimentary appetizer for the table, only for it to show up as a $13 charge on the bill. This has happened to me twice. Because of the rushed service and the surprise charges, I don't see myself returning. read more

I just left this place and i don't usually write reviews , now sitting in my car out front First off, the drinks are completely juiced up honestly feels like straight lemon juice with barely any alcohol. For the prices they're charging, that's unacceptable. It's like they're trying to stretch every drop instead of giving you what you paid for. On top of that, the food menu has clearly changed and not for the better. The options are limited now, and some of the best items that used to make this place worth coming to are just gone. What's left is underwhelming and doesn't match the quality they used to have. And now they don't even have happy hour on Fridays anymore? That was one of the main reasons people came through at the end of the week. Taking that away just makes it even less worth it. I even gave them a second chance, trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but that just made it worse. The food left me with an upset stomach and running to the bathroom after, which is the last thing you expect when you're going out to eat. It's disappointing because this used to be a solid spot, but now it feels like they're cutting corners across the board. Definitely not the same Sofia's anymore. I won't be back. read more

I went in on a staten night after not being here for some time. The vibe was great. Busy but not too crowded. We were sat quickly and accommodated on preference. They have lots of options; an upstairs, a courtyard. And inside with the bar area. Inpur was our waitress. She was very good for a waitresses on Staten Island. Very prompt, accommodating and gave us Everything we needed. Felt safe because she was so on it with kitchen having the peanut allergy. Entire staff was attentive Bus boys. Everybody was helpful. Food was real good. Excellent for cost. Will be back. Deff recommend read more

The Staten Island Mall location is way better. Came on a Thursday afternoon with a party of 8. Was seated outside although there was enough for us to sit inside. We were cramped into a 4 person table. there was another table behind us that we were blocking the entrance to and the waiter wasn't able to tend to their table. Two waiters and no one came to check on us, fill our waters, or even give us the correct food orders. Waited around 15 minutes before anyone even took our order. When we ordered, it was 5 different apps and all that came out was 2 nachos, and a quesadilla. The only correct orders were all the drinks. We couldnt even really rate the food since it wasnt even hot when we got them. The wrong order and there wasnt even enough plates and utensils to go around. I am surprised since it was not even busy. No chips or guac for the table. No waters. Needed to add salt. read more

Haven't been in a while and decided to come by for a small bite and drinks. Honestly was surprised by how much better it was this time around. The margaritas are delicious and even the mocktails are great made with fresh fruit. The blueberry was so so good. Also loved the pineapple gauc. The caramelization added a nice touch of sweetness to complement the heat of jalapeño. Will definitely come back to try some more dishes! read more

Ate here a couple of times. Got take out several times. Excellent food and service. Gave it one star short of five only because it's a little pricey for Mexican food. Other than that, highly recommend. read more

The food was very good, but all items are à la cart. Service was excellent. THE PRICES ARE SHOCKINGLY HIGH! Be prepared to pay triple the cost of a Mexican meal. Music is so loud you cannot hear or talk without screaming. It was a one and done experience for us. read more

Sofia'S Taqueria - "Mother's Day " Drinks including a frozen Strawberry margarita ! Yummmmilicious - Tacos Near Me - Staten Island, New York

Sofia has the best tacos on the Island. The fish, blackened shrimp, carnitas, and chorizo tacos are all wonderful. The quesadilla snd empanadas are also excellent. It is wise to top it all off with the horchata flan. The party packages are excellent ideas for social gatherings. These sre all served by a pleasant, very professional staff. read more

This is our 3rd visit to Sofia's Taqueria and it has sealed its place as a top dining destination. Bar tender Eric is truly a professional and has excellent customer service down to a science. We sat at the bar (which I never do) because the restaurant was full. He took our drink and food orders and the food came out fast, fresh and hot. Our drinks were the coconut mojito and mango margarita. Then someone cancelled an order for a strawberry mango margarita so we added it to our order and it was delicious; so now I have a favorite drink here :) Dinner was excellent, we had the shrimp and corn empanadas and the crab empanadas as the appetizer. For the main my husband had the chicken fajitas and I had the shrimp tacos. We also had guacamole and chips. Everything was perfect. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation if you plan on coming on the weekend. Enjoy! read more

I seldom leave reviews, but have been dissapointed with Sophia's the past few times we went there. The fact that they messed up chips & salsa - the salsa was clearly stored in the fridge and thin stale chips were dissapointing. The nachos were worse - same thin chips, very unseasoned chicken and it came out of the kitchen with the cheese hard and cold. Thankfully we weren't hungry and decided not to order more food after the apps. I gave 2 stars because the drikns were okay. read more

Where do I start. This place is amazing, the food, the ambiance and the service. I went for happy hour with a few friends. Our food came in about 10 minutes which was great. The drinks were great too. I had the coconut margarita superb to say the least. Hidden gem in Staten Island read more

Saturday night vibes here around 830 was a bit slow. Overall it was okay, nothing I would go out of my way for. Queso funidido seemed like it was missing the chorizo The salsa and fried fish were lacking flavor and the drinks were just not mixed right. My partner had the same drink and it was as if the bartender poured the first half into his and the rest into my cup. Maybe it was night we came but I wouldn't recommended this place to anyone. read more

If you like Americanized Mexican food then this is place for you. They use American cheese and smother everything with cream or sauce. I can't taste anything past the mayonnaise and the cream. I do not recommend. The Guac is slightly better but it had pieces of overly ripe (almost rotten) avocados. Their cabbage slaw is also American made with mayonnaise instead of a vinegar base. Service was great. read more

What an amazing happy hour deal at Sofia's Taqueria. I started off with the spicy mango sangria and my friend ordered the raspberry mango margarita. The spicy mango was not spicy but pretty strong in flavor. We took advantage of the happy hour deal and each ordered a fish taco and carnita tacos. We also ordered a shrimp and beef empanada. The tacos were not mini at all; it's filled with delicious filling. The carnita is definitely one of the best I had because it came with chicharron. The empanadas were interesting and light. It was like it was wrapped in a puff pastry. Definitely would recommend coming back for their happy hour deal! read more

Used to live at Urby and would pass by here often. Always heard the food was good-but the prices are high. My husband is Mexican and so finding good Mexican (especially on the East coast) is always a challenge. Came with a friend. Tried their al pastor tacos. Wish the meat was cut smaller but overall it was a really nice experience. Not like anything you'd get in cali or Mexico for that matter-but for a Staten Island tacqueria- would totally recommend! read more

I love Sofias!! The music, food and atmosphere is so great. I always order the Pollo Asado and it never misses!

Food was ok & so we're the Margaritas. My friend invited me here for my Birthday...it's a Monday. The place had quite a few empty tables. Yet, they kept interrupting our meal time & our conversation. They even attempted to lift the plates of our food when we weren't done with it yet. Even though, we kindly asked them to stop 3X, they continued. My friend also told them because they interrupted many times, asking again if we'd like anything else, that when she asks for the ticket, that she'll want a burrito. But Nooooo, they brought it to her while we were still eating & not ready to go. She didn't want the Burrito to get cold & sent it back. But still they kept interrupting. It was so annoying! I didn't even enjoy the food or drink! They actually interrupted us like 10X, in the hour and a half sitting there! So if you're just in the mood to eat & run, then go there. But if you feel like just chilling & have interesting conversation during Dinner, I suggest you check out another place. read more

I dined here yesterday for the third time. I love the Mexican decor. It makes me feel like I am on vacation somewhere. I really like the 2nd floor-it's more spacious. Service is exceptional. My water glass was never empty and the waiter made an excellent recommendation when I told him my dietary restrictions. They have many different types of guacamole and I had the corn guacamole and I really liked that it was spicy and authentic. The cactus beverage actually came in a cactus glass so that was really neat! Wish I could take it home. I really love this place. read more

The food is always top notch. I dare a food critic to challenge that. Service - amazing. Ambiance - a lot quieter in the booth up the ramp. Only thing I didn't like was an additional $10 that was added to our bill for no reason. Mistake? Maybe. But if they did that on every check, that's quite the scam. We constantly order from here, so I truly hope not. Don't miss this place out your trip to SI! read more

Go to ho'brah instead - or literally anywhere else. The manager, Ezekiel, did not help us after our horrible experience. A group of us went on a Wednesday evening, there was only a few customers there when we were seated. The staff were not overwhelmed, and there were plenty of them. Once we ordered, we were the only ones remaining in the entire restaurant. However, the food took a noticeably long time to come out and there was minimal meat in our burrito, it was mostly rice. Trying to get anything from our waitress was virtually impossible, we had to ask for ice for water three separate times (and it never came). I asked two different staff multiple times just for a straw. Once I got it, the waitress handed me an absurd amount, almost to mock me and say she was annoyed with my multiple requests. We never got our side of rice we ordered until I finally got the chance to ask for it once we were completely done eating, the waitress still brought it out even though we were done - and didn't even take it off the bill. We ordered dessert to share, I ordered it as soon as we arrived to the restaurant so that it was a surprise for my cousins birthday. Once we were done eating and had asked for our dessert, it took so long to come out that I asked the waitress if she just wanted to cancel it. She said no, it'll be right out. it still didn't come for a while after that. We got a shared dessert for our table and when she brought it out, she said she'd bring out spoons and plates - and never did. it took so long and our ice cream was melting so I went over to the counter where the staff including our waitress was standing at and took from a stack of clean plates right infront of them. the manager, Ezekiel, watched me do this- i gave him the chance to say something so I didn't go in and do it myself and be rude. but he ignored.I also had to go around to empty tables around the restaurant to take silverware just so we could use the forks for our ice cream. when the dessert originally first came out, I asked for the check, knowing it would take a while to come- based on how things were moving there. it still took so long to come out that our whole group was standing around, waiting to leave. And still no check. Once she gave us the check she disappeared yet again. I basically walked into the kitchen to give her the cash with the check. When she finally came out after we gave her the cash were waiting for our requested change back - she said we were short $3. We weren't, she actually owed us $7.40.... and to get that $7.40 became an entire escapade. (spoiler alert: we never got the 40 cents even though I asked) she was extremely rude about it, & tried to give us a problem using our gift cards. the waitress disappeared for a long time after knowing we were standing there waiting for our $7.40. It was 1000% on purpose because we were very agitated at this point. Ezekiel even had the nerve to call us "intense". I had to ask Ezekiel multiple times, for our $7.40. I said to him, "please just give us our change back so we can go." He didnt do anything to make that happen. How does a manager of a restaurant not have the ability to give us back our $7.40? We still were waiting for a while. I would usually just leave the money as more of a tip, I don't mind that at all. but I didn't want to tip more than what was on the required gratuity that is added to the bill. By the way - I don't see written on the menu anywhere that gratuity is added for a party of 5 or more, so the waitress may have just done that to make sure she got her tip, knowing she provided the absolute worst service and was extremely rude to us. For our troubles, the gratuity really should have been removed, or our dessert, or the side of rice that came out once we were finished with our meal, or even just give me back my 40 cents I was owed??? But they did nothing to provide good customer service or accommodate us. Or give us back the correct change. When she FINALLY brought the $7 to me, she wouldn't give me the 40 cents & handed me the cash by looking away from me and looking at her computer and throwing her hand into my face rudely to give me the money. Without making eye contact. As if we did something wrong to her, when she knows we were provided terrible service and had been standing there waiting for our change. I told Ezekiel about this & told him he should have provided better customer service by accommodating us for our experience. He just blankly smiled at me & said "thank you". Almost to mock us. I typically buy everyone in my family sofias gift cards for xmas, I will not be doing that this year and will not be returning. Even though it's only 40 cents, it wasn't right for them to not give me my change back as principle. that was just plain wrong. Hopefully an owner reads this and knows what is going on during a typical week night at their restaurant. read more

The ambiance was nice, the servers are on point, the food was meh. It's expensive gringo style tacos. There i said it. What's expensive to me? Over 120 for three people to eat tacos and share one appetizer with no alcohol. The average dinner is around 30 dollars and don't expect to get some hearty tacos at this price point. Also everything is sold separately so if you want rice to fill you up after some appetizer size tacos, you'll pay for that. Nice selection of hot sauces but you'll get charged for that as well. Overall, the area is blessed to have some of the best tacos in NJ, take advantage of that. read more

One of my girlfriends and I got together and got lunch at this location. I made reservations for 1pm and I must say the lady that took the reservations wasn't too friendly. When I arrived I found parking on the street nearby. I walked in and it seemed like the same lady sat us. It was by the door so we asked to move because it was cold. Omar was our server. For drinks we got sangria and it wasn't bad. For lunch I got the shrimp tacos for the lunch special and my friend got the pork burrito. The tacos were good but the rice and beans it came with needed a little salt. We sat for a while and talked and Omar changed shifts with another guy but he wasn't as attentive. We never even caught his name because he really didn't attend to us. The bill wasn't bad and we had an ok time. read more

Wanted to try this place for a while and so disappointed I haven't been here earlier! Everything we ordered was fantastic, including the guacamole and chicken flautas, but my life was changed after having the Carne Asada tacos.
