I just left this place and i don't usually write reviews , now sitting in my car out front First off, the drinks are completely juiced up honestly feels like straight lemon juice with barely any alcohol. For the prices they're charging, that's unacceptable. It's like they're trying to stretch every drop instead of giving you what you paid for. On top of that, the food menu has clearly changed and not for the better. The options are limited now, and some of the best items that used to make this place worth coming to are just gone. What's left is underwhelming and doesn't match the quality they used to have. And now they don't even have happy hour on Fridays anymore? That was one of the main reasons people came through at the end of the week. Taking that away just makes it even less worth it. I even gave them a second chance, trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but that just made it worse. The food left me with an upset stomach and running to the bathroom after, which is the last thing you expect when you're going out to eat. It's disappointing because this used to be a solid spot, but now it feels like they're cutting corners across the board. Definitely not the same Sofia's anymore. I won't be back. read more

The Staten Island Mall location is way better. Came on a Thursday afternoon with a party of 8. Was seated outside although there was enough for us to sit inside. We were cramped into a 4 person table. there was another table behind us that we were blocking the entrance to and the waiter wasn't able to tend to their table. Two waiters and no one came to check on us, fill our waters, or even give us the correct food orders. Waited around 15 minutes before anyone even took our order. When we ordered, it was 5 different apps and all that came out was 2 nachos, and a quesadilla. The only correct orders were all the drinks. We couldnt even really rate the food since it wasnt even hot when we got them. The wrong order and there wasnt even enough plates and utensils to go around. I am surprised since it was not even busy. My husband and I along with my adult son took me out for " Mother's Day " dinner we had a bad experience with a place my son made reservations for . In A panic , he called " Sofia's Taqueria " and they said to come right in . Besides the warm , friendly , and sweet atmosphere , our waitress " Kaylee " was very attentive to our needs . This is our 3rd visit to Sofia's Taqueria and it has sealed its place as a top dining destination. Bar tender Eric is truly a professional and has excellent customer service down to a science. We sat at the bar (which I never do) because the restaurant was full. He took our drink and food orders and the food came out fast, fresh and hot. Our drinks were the coconut mojito and mango margarita. Then someone cancelled an order for a strawberry mango margarita so we added it to our order and it was delicious; so now I have a favorite drink here :) Dinner was excellent, we had the shrimp and corn empanadas and the crab empanadas as the appetizer. For the main my husband had the chicken fajitas and I had the shrimp tacos. We also had guacamole and chips. Everything was perfect. If you like Americanized Mexican food then this is place for you. They use American cheese and smother everything with cream or sauce. I can't taste anything past the mayonnaise and the cream. I do not recommend. The Guac is slightly better but it had pieces of overly ripe (almost rotten) avocados. Their cabbage slaw is also American made with mayonnaise instead of a vinegar base. Go to ho'brah instead - or literally anywhere else. The manager, Ezekiel, did not help us after our horrible experience. A group of us went on a Wednesday evening, there was only a few customers there when we were seated. The staff were not overwhelmed, and there were plenty of them. Once we ordered, we were the only ones remaining in the entire restaurant. However, the food took a noticeably long time to come out and there was minimal meat in our burrito, it was mostly rice. Trying to get anything from our waitress was virtually impossible, we had to ask for ice for water three separate times (and it never came). I asked two different staff multiple times just for a straw. Once I got it, the waitress handed me an absurd amount, almost to mock me and say she was annoyed with my multiple requests. We never got our side of rice we ordered until I finally got the chance to ask for it once we were completely done eating, the waitress still brought it out even though we were done - and didn't even take it off the bill. We ordered dessert to share, I ordered it as soon as we arrived to the restaurant so that it was a surprise for my cousins birthday. Once we were done eating and had asked for our dessert, it took so long to come out that I asked the waitress if she just wanted to cancel it. She said no, it'll be right out. it still didn't come for a while after that. We got a shared dessert for our table and when she brought it out, she said she'd bring out spoons and plates - and never did. it took so long and our ice cream was melting so I went over to the counter where the staff including our waitress was standing at and took from a stack of clean plates right infront of them. the manager, Ezekiel, watched me do this- i gave him the chance to say something so I didn't go in and do it myself and be rude. but he ignored.I also had to go around to empty tables around the restaurant to take silverware just so we could use the forks for our ice cream. when the dessert originally first came out, I asked for the check, knowing it would take a while to come- based on how things were moving there. it still took so long to come out that our whole group was standing around, waiting to leave. And still no check. Once she gave us the check she disappeared yet again. I basically walked into the kitchen to give her the cash with the check. When she finally came out after we gave her the cash were waiting for our requested change back - she said we were short $3. We weren't, she actually owed us $7.40.... and to get that $7.40 became an entire escapade. (spoiler alert: we never got the 40 cents even though I asked) she was extremely rude about it, & tried to give us a problem using our gift cards. the waitress disappeared for a long time after knowing we were standing there waiting for our $7.40. It was 1000% on purpose because we were very agitated at this point. Ezekiel even had the nerve to call us "intense". I had to ask Ezekiel multiple times, for our $7.40. I said to him, "please just give us our change back so we can go." He didnt do anything to make that happen. How does a manager of a restaurant not have the ability to give us back our $7.40? We still were waiting for a while. I would usually just leave the money as more of a tip, I don't mind that at all. but I didn't want to tip more than what was on the required gratuity that is added to the bill. By the way - I don't see written on the menu anywhere that gratuity is added for a party of 5 or more, so the waitress may have just done that to make sure she got her tip, knowing she provided the absolute worst service and was extremely rude to us. For our troubles, the gratuity really should have been removed, or our dessert, or the side of rice that came out once we were finished with our meal, or even just give me back my 40 cents I was owed??? But they did nothing to provide good customer service or accommodate us. Or give us back the correct change. When she FINALLY brought the $7 to me, she wouldn't give me the 40 cents & handed me the cash by looking away from me and looking at her computer and throwing her hand into my face rudely to give me the money. Without making eye contact. As if we did something wrong to her, when she knows we were provided terrible service and had been standing there waiting for our change. I told Ezekiel about this & told him he should have provided better customer service by accommodating us for our experience. He just blankly smiled at me & said "thank you". Almost to mock us. I typically buy everyone in my family sofias gift cards for xmas, I will not be doing that this year and will not be returning. Even though it's only 40 cents, it wasn't right for them to not give me my change back as principle. that was just plain wrong. Hopefully an owner reads this and knows what is going on during a typical week night at their restaurant. read more

What an amazing happy hour deal at Sofia's Taqueria. I started off with the spicy mango sangria and my friend ordered the raspberry mango margarita. The spicy mango was not spicy but pretty strong in flavor. We took advantage of the happy hour deal and each ordered a fish taco and carnita tacos. We also ordered a shrimp and beef empanada. The tacos were not mini at all; it's filled with delicious filling. The carnita is definitely one of the best I had because it came with chicharron. The empanadas were interesting and light. Over 120 for three people to eat tacos and share one appetizer with no alcohol. The average dinner is around 30 dollars and don't expect to get some hearty tacos at this price point. I dined here yesterday for the third time. I love the Mexican decor. It makes me feel like I am on vacation somewhere. I really like the 2nd floor-it's more spacious. Service is exceptional. One of my girlfriends and I got together and got lunch at this location. I made reservations for 1pm and I must say the lady that took the reservations wasn't too friendly. When I arrived I found parking on the street nearby. I walked in and it seemed like the same lady sat us. It was by the door so we asked to move because it was cold. Omar was our server. For drinks we got sangria and it wasn't bad. For lunch I got the shrimp tacos for the lunch special and my friend got the pork burrito. The tacos were good but the rice and beans it came with needed a little salt. We sat for a while and talked and Omar changed shifts with another guy but he wasn't as attentive. My company did a big order from here for a luncheon. First the delivery was late not Sophia fault apparently but we did not receive a phone call as a courtesy. Second some of the items we paid for were not in the order. We called back and the hold time was brutal. I asked for us not to be charged due to one the lateness and two the fact that items were missing. We requested hard shell tacos it were not provided with this in the order and were missing the tortilla chips that accompany the guacamole and salsa we requested what we ordered and wanted an extra salsa as a courtesy. The restaurant wanted to charge us for the hard shell tacos. After many hold on hold on finally they said ok. Now on to the food the guacamole was flavorful, the chicken and steak was dry like it was sitting there for hours. The corn and vegetables had no flavor unseasoned and mushy. The potatoes and chorizo were pretty ok. The chips tasted stale and the soft tortillas were over heated and began to stick together which also made the gummy. I cannot speak on the salsa because I did not have any but I did order s Cesar salad which they put thousand island dressing instead of Caesar dressing which was odd. Someone recommended this place to us but my office stated never again. Maybe it's better if you go into the restaurant I cannot tell you about the ambience. They have a fresh guacamole station behind the bar but I came in for a quick work lunch so I didn't have time to sample that. I ordered the wings appetizer and street corn appetizer .
