I'm shocked by the other reviews. I really had a great experience here. We started with the Dip Trio (hummus, tzatziki and melitanosalata with pita) and the Tomato and Buffalo Mozzarella Napoleon Salad. Both were excellent. Then we shared the Pan-Seared Chilean Sea Bass which came with mushroom risotto and asparagus. We loved it! It was cooked perfectly. The service was great and the ambiance was serene. "Simply the best restaurant..." The title says it all, there are very few restaurants left anywhere that are as good as Sofia's. The atmosphere is incredible, there is not a bad seat in the house, but the food is what keeps me going back. I have been there half a dozen times or so and never had a bad meal, or even tasted a bad dish. If your anywhere close to Margate, NJ - even if your in Atlantic City, NJ make the trip it's worth it! I went back to Sofia last night and enjoyed their Choice of Salads we both had the Holoumi and the fried Calamari and broiled scallops which are huge and very tasty. The Service with Nick was excellent and the atmosphere is very eye appealing. Sofia is not a Greek take out. If you want cheap lower quality food then there are other places to go. But if you want to enjoy your dinner and be pampered plus relax then I truly recommend a dinner here. read more

In a town full of overpriced restaurants with just average food, Sofia may take top billing. Outrageously expensive entrees with no sides included, this is a place for the in crowd to pretend they are engaging in fine dining. The restaurant itself is very pretty, although very noisy. The staff is very warm and friendly, but our service was slow and forgetful. My tuna was tasteless and their famous dips were not worthy of the hype. All in all, a much better meal can be had for much less cost elsewhere. read more

This restaurant is not what it use to be. We have been going here since it opened and loved the meals, service and ambience. But since having dinner here on August 23, 2017 It is safe to say that I will never return again!!!!!!!! I ordered the calamari appetizer and it was full of salt and the breading was "horrible". I have ordered this many many times in the past and have gone back to Sofia's specifically just for the calamari which was awesome. Their other entries "were" also very good. The service was terrible and when I talked to the chef (who prepared the calamari), she acted like I was from Mars and could care less about my comments. The waiter pretty much ignored use during the meal and kept rushing us to order the meal, dessert and final libation. The couple that attended the dinner shared the same feeling. This past weekend I decided to take the girl I am dating out for a special dinner. I knew she liked greek food so I decided that Sofias would be a good spot to take her, with the added bonus that it is local for us. Usually I would make reservations for a weekend dinner night out but it was slightly unplanned; luckily we were able to get a table and with a very short wait time of about 15 minutes which was impressive considering how busy they were. We were given the choice between inside or outside dining, and because it was nice out we chose to sit under the twinkling lights of the tent they have. I have to say the place is decorated so specifically that it really has a greece vibe, even the variety of plants outside in the tent brings the whole "vibe" together. The service and the food were absolutely incredible here. I was really impressed. Like I said earlier, my girl likes greek food so she had an idea of what she wanted when she saw the menu (shocking right). I can't say the same was true for myself, which is where our server Gabby ended up being really helpful. She was very knowledgeable regarding the food on the menu and helped me pick out dishes I would like, because to be honest I wasn't even sure how to pronounce some of the dish names. I ended up loving each course of the meal thanks to her help, and the fact that the chef was obviously really great at his job. Even the dessert recommendations she made turned out to be amazing. On top of that she was very attentive to not just us, but all of the tables she was serving under the tent. She was professional, friendly, and quick on her feet. It was really impressive. She even went out of her way at the end to take a couple nice pictures for us. 10/10 review based on excellent service, food, and atmosphere. We have been coming here for years and always have a great experience, except for this past weekend. It was a bit busier than usual due to the holiday so we decided to sit at the bar, which was full, but not beyond the number of seats provided. The regular bartenders (I believe they are brothers & they are great!) weren't there. The female bartender, who I've never seen before, ignored everyone on her (our) side of the bar, not even handing out a menu when seated. Everyone was looking at each other in disbelief of how rude and dismissive she was to us all. When she finally brought you your drink she pushed it hard so it spilled, lovely. In addition she was chewing gum - not too professional. Our food was great, but she took away from the experience (which we are paying for!). The other bartender was doing his job and didn't seem to have any issues. In addition to this we were surprised to see the hostesses wearing shorts and looking like they rolled off the beach. Sofia's has become my go to restaurant. In the time of Covid they are doing it perfectly and the food has been outstanding. A big shout out to John and Damon at the bar for always making us feel comfortable and happy. Not to mention they make perfect cocktails! This was my first time dining at Sofia's because one of our friends had recommended it. The hostess greeted us upon entering, showed us to our table, offered to take my date's cost and gave her a ticket. Standard stuff. The lighting was nice, and the place reminded me of the episode of everybody loves raymond when they all went to Italy, although it's a greek restaurant. The waiter was charming and told us about a few special items he recommended from the menu. We received our water first, and then our bread, which was toasted perfectly; just a single loaf but good. It came with a greek oil mixture that was quite tasty. Bread worked well throughout the meal for dipping. My date had the house salad that was a quarter head cut in two pieces (something I had never experienced), topped appropriately in tomatoes, bacon, and caesar dressing (no ranch available) that she substituted from blue cheese. I felt it was a wise move. The dressing had a good flavor and not too overpowering which mixed well with the rest. For an appetizer I had the Souvlaki (chicken on skewers). The chicken was grilled well, not dry, came with a small greens mix in vinaigrette, and Tzatziki (The greek cucumber sauce) which was excellent! Each item on this plate stood on it's own yet complemented each-other. Very happy with this. For a main course, my date had the Seafood Plaki which arrived in a Volcano Shaped dish. I wasn't too impressed by it. Plating was something of a crock pot. Everything inside seemed too light in flavor, probably could have used some salt, however the shrimp were semi pre-cooked/seasoned on the grill before being added to this dish and tasted amazing. I had the Pan-Seared Chilean Sea Bass with Wild Mushroom Risotto, Asparagus, and Jumbo Lump Crab meat on top. Platting was well done, and appealing for fine dinning. The risotto was on point and asparagus was good. The lump crab meat on top was perfect, and the bass itself melted in your mouth. The sauce they used on the plate had excellent flavor and complemented the bass perfectly, but I do wish there was more of it. I didn't think we could eat another bite after the size of everything. However after the meal we were treated with a small desert tray, complements of the chef :) "Who says no to free dessert?!" The tray consisted of cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, grapes, and two small pieces of Baklava. The fruits were sweet and strawberries were exceptional! Baklava was excellent; not too heavy or sweet. I felt like I could still eat it after the substantial meal we had. Aside from the volcano mix, I'd say it was a well balanced, enjoyable meal, and would return in the future. For that reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5. read more

I went here last week with my family and let me start out by saying that the food was delicious. Our waiter on the other hand was a bit pushy and a tad annoying. We didn't even have a moment the settle in before he bombarded us with the specials. My mother in law and I had ordered a glass of moscato each but we where served with white wine instead. When we had notified the waiter, he seemed to be persistent that we where in fact given the correct wine. After telling him multiple times we would like another glass he went to the bar and brought my mother in law a new glass along with the bottle(to prove to her that it was the correct wine/ not once did he offer me a new glass) Once he had poured the new glass of wine you could definitely see the difference in the shades of white. Once that whole incident was over he was being pushy on us ordering. We where so rushed that we didn't even have a few moments to gather our thoughts about what we would like to do about appetizers. But it doesn't end there. We had asked the waiter for a dessert menu and he never came back with one, but instead he came back with a plate of Greek pastries. He didn't even bother to ask if we had wanted coffee with our dessert we didn't order I had ordered the filet mignon, my husband had ordered the tuna, my mother in law ordered some type of fish and my father in law ordered a special that included filet and fish. All in all the food was delicious. After all was said and done, we had left a 20% tip and the waiter had the audacity to come back to the table and ask my father in law if that was the correct amount that was suppose to be left. The only reason I am giving this restaurant 3 stars and not 2 is because the food and atmosphere was good (other then the waiter). read more

It was a beautiful restaurant with good food. I had Chilean Sea Bass for dinner which was cooked just right. We shared Calamari, Baby Octopus, Clams Casino, Raw Neck Clams & the Galaktobourico & Baklava for dessert. I enjoyed the calamari loved the side sauce. The Clams Casino - just Ok have had better. Baby Octopus, was not good.. Way over done... very disappointed. The raw Clams were very hard to get out of the shell....not a fan of that. the Baklava was good, but the Galaktobourico which is a Greek custard pie dessert thing ... was excellent. I would go back to Sofia's, but will not order the clams or octopus. The service was excellent as well. read more

This place came highly recommend by two friends. It was a major disappointment. The atmosphere was pretty but too gaudy for my taste. It was loud. I sat staring into the serving station. The waiter kept bringing us food that meant for other tables and the food should have been sent back. My husband had duck which was rubbery. The skin was not crispy and the Demi glaze was bland. I had the fish dish. It had 3 medium shrimp and a chunk of bass that was 2x2". It had one wedge of potatoe. Flavor was okay at best. So not worth the $31 price tag!!! Wine was good. Would only award two stars because there Is a nice outside deck that is probably fun in the summer for drinks and apps. But way over priced for what you get. read more

The management is the problem. We are local to this restaurant, and have always enjoyed it. Nice ambience, great food and service, reasonably priced (for Margate) and the bartenders remember the little things about their regulars. But last night we had such a disturbing experience that I find it unlikely that we will return. We were seated at the bar for food and drinks .... we tend to do that every couple of weeks, and eat dinner in the restaurant proper about once a month year round, and we often bring friends. Last night the bar was crowded, and there was a happy, noisy crowd enjoying themselves until a patron decided to make his political opinions clear to everybody within earshot. He spoke of his love for our current president, and of his hatred and disdain for our previous president. I believe that everybody is entitled to their own opinion, and though I didn't agree with the man's politics my only objection was to his volume .... until he apparently noted the discomfort of some of those around him and decided to go further, launching into an ugly racial and misogynistic tirade against the former first lady, immigrants, and several other topics - and got even louder. He was actually yelling. The more people looked over or rolled their eyes, the louder he got. The things he was saying were loathsome, to the point where several people got up and left. Some moved to another area of the bar or requested a table elsewhere in the restaurant, others simply left Sofia's entirely. Not only were the bartenders and owner aware, but at one point I saw her hug the man when he returned from the bathroom, so he is clearly a regular. I believe he had been over-served, which exacerbated the situation -- I can only hope that he was walking home rather than driving. I was frankly surprised that nobody confronted the patron, he was that disruptive. I can only guess that everybody was holding their breath like we were and counting the seconds until he left. No restaurant management should allow one client - even a regular - to make so many others so uncomfortable. read more

Stopped in for a fancy cocktail on my way out of Margate a few weeks back, (off season). This is a classy looking joint, the bartender was nice, very friendly and the MOD was happy to see us. We enjoyed a well-made, stiff drink and went on our way. I was satisfied with my interactions; however, I did not taste the food as we had already eaten elsewhere. I am giving a 4 star review for that reason becasue the experience was a good one for me. IF when I return in the warmer months I have the opportunity to enjoy a meal I may adjust that number either up or down, but from what I could see and smell on people's tables, it looks like a very nice place to dine. read more

Had dinner here several times over the past several years... Was always awesome! Had dinner this evening (New Years Eve) our family & a friends family... Kids meals (pasta & meatballs) took 30 minutes & meatballs came out nearly raw... Our Signature Salads (all 4 adults) goat cheese came out cold & hard... Uggggh. My wife's medium filet came out raw... Bad! Not to mention we were never informed at the time of reservation or confirmation of the pre-fixe menu... VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!! Probably will give this normal "Gem" another chance... Would have been nice if management had at least addressed our multiple disappointments upon departure but.... Nothing! There is now no reason to head to the AC Casinos for dinner! Go to Sofia's instead. Elegant service, an excellent wine list and delicious food awaits! All of the meals were presented at the same time by a team oriented wait staff. The Plaki which is Greek for baked fish (chilean sea bass) was excellently prepared in a very rich tomato sauce and accompanied by shrimp (nicely cooked), olives and a potato. The Limoncello Sorbet was a perfect finish to this meal. Other entrees that were devoured at the table included a Scallop Bowl, Salmon Bowl, and a duck special. There was not a drop of food left on anyone's plate by the end of the meal. read more

There was an older heavy set woman with black hair who was rather loud and bumped into us in order to sit a couple at the bar area. Should anyone leave a restaurant hungry? Well we all did after we left Sofia's this past Saturday Night. It was a Birthday celebration and we were looking forward to trying out Sofia's. We started with a soggy Brochette? Yep, soggy! Each of us received a very small salad. Come on its Salad!! The dressing was light and pretty good, but the portion was for a child! 6 of us had the Pasta with Chicken in a cream sauce. ITS PASTA, Where is the PASTA!!! The Bowl was large but the portion was so small that each and every one of us commented about how small the portions are! We also all stated that the entree tasted really good, the sauce was super, but the portion was insulting especially for the price. Two of the other folks in the party ordered the Crab Cakes. Again, food tasted very good but the portion was so lacking. Comparing the Pasta dish with the Crab Cake dish, the pasta dish had LESS food? Makes sense? Nah The service was as usual for the New Jersey Shore unprofessional, inconsistent and over all deplorable. Welcome to the nightmare of dining out at the Jersey Shore. I loved our dining experience at Sofia. At the last minute, they accomodated our party of 14 for a busy Saturday night at 9:30. The last members of our party didn't show up until 10:30 and the waitstaff were nothing but gracious in the interim. The owner even showed up to introduce herself! The menu is a bit pricy, but after paying premium prices the night before for a meal that had sat in a chafing dish all day, I was quite happy. The food was of excellent quality and no one in our party had a less than stellar experience. There was a great variety of Greek food. My normally picky friend enjoyed every bite of his moussaka and the rest of us were raffling risottos and satays to share our pleasure with our friends. We were loud and stayed late and the waitstaff stayed with us. When the bill came, we had been charged for bread, which did seem a little strange. After how accomodating they had been, I was quite satisfied. The place is beautiful, although the flowers on the terrace are fake. read more

I would give this place 6 stars if I could. The ambiance is classy and upbeat with a beautiful bar area that you just want to hang out at. There's also an inviting outdoor terrace which we plan to try when it gets warmer. As for the food... It was just outstanding!!! I mean... every single thing we ordered was just perfect. First, the chicken souvlaki was tender and moist. Second, the ahi tuna salad was very tasty and fresh. Third, the crab cakes were all crab ... Just delicious. Fourth, the osso bucco was tender and melt in the mouth without being over-cooked, stringy or dry. Finally we shared the tiramisu and that also was to die for. Now for the service... We were not happy with our table ... we had made a last minute reservation and of course were given the worst table in the house... We mentioned this to the girl and she curtly said there's nothing she could do, which really wasn't a good way to start but we approached the manager and she quickly came up and gave us a better table and everything from there on went exceptionally well. We had Sheldon for our waiter and he was just fantastic. He checked on us after each course was served and he did this all while waiting on two big parties. At one point he was busy and the bus-person, Nick helped out and Sheldon came over later and made sure everything was ok. Over-rated. My crab cake was rendered inedible by an overspiced sauce. My wife's langostinos were just fair. We wound up eating the entire bread because we were hungry after this meal. Our friend's calamari, usually his favorite, was so salty that he couldn't eat it. His wife thought that her meal was just fair. Long one of our favorite restaurants in Margate, tonight was a mediocre disappointment. I was never asked how our meal was; and was reluctant to send it back. In retrospect I should have. We ended up here because we needed a place that would sit all of us when we were in AC- and our friend Brady saved our buts and found us a reservation here. It was cute and totally fine, but would I recommend it-probably not. Why-you ask? The place waaay overcharged on everything, from the drinks to the meals and appetizers and pita, everything. It shouldn't be that expensive to eat out. We're not in NYC, and we're not being served gourmet food here. That being said, I had a Key Lime Pie Martini that was delish, with a graham cracker rim on the glass. Yum. And my main dish was ok but the mushroom risotto I had with it was yum. Not the place for a Greek gyro! This was the worst gyro I have ever tasted. A few thin pieces of burnt lamb meat inside a pita. No lettuce, tomato or any yogurt sauce. Very dry & had no sauce or condiments. Not sure this could even be called a gyro. Very disappointing for a greek restaurant. Service at the bar wasn't very good either. read more

We tried Sofia Mediterranean shrimp appetizer which consisted of three small shrimp, not well seasoned for $10. Had dinner there the other night the salads were amazing! The only highlight of the night ! The calamari was definitely fried in old oil it was not great, the lamb chops were good nothing over the top for the price. My brother in law and I both got the seared gnocchi bad choice it was not even seared at all it was just boiled gnocchi with sauce... we asked if it was seared and our waiter said yes it is this is how we do it here and walked away very expensive for the food we got will not be back. read more
