Walking up and down the food stands on a Thursday at lunchtime, I didn't feel like shelling out another $12 on some food. I had just eaten a Roli Roti sandwich and was looking for something to quench my thirst.
The last stand I encountered was Soda Craft. The sign read "fermented soda".
They had 3 choices.
Stone Fruit Sucker Punch - White Peaches, White Nectarines & Red Plums
Xtra Dry Ginger Ale - Fresh Juiced Ginger & Eureka Lemons
I don't remember the 3rd choice. I went with the Stone Fruit Sucker Punch for $3. The gentleman got it from the tap and filled a plastic cup. It was quite tasty. It wasn't too sweet, but it was bubbly and quite refreshing.
Random funny thing happened. While I was waiting for my drink, a Chinese dad and his two young children came to the booth. He asked the worker if fermented meant that it was alcoholic. He wanted to make sure his kids could have some. The worker said it would be alcoholic if he let it sit another 3 weeks. The dad went on to try to explain what fermented soda was to his elementary school aged children. I walked away from the stand sipping my soda and with a B.S and a Masters, and I was still contemplating what fermented soda was. Definitely going back to his place when I'm around again for a nice refresher on a warm day. read more
