It was clearly a liberal store.I told myself I wouldn't support any organization promoting division. Once I went inside, I forgot all the silly divisive rhetoric. The place had quality items that I, an ex kitchen manager - cook and sometimes chef loved. I felt home. The truffles were outstanding , the selection of kitchen utensils was excellent, the espresso makers and the high quality mixer was to drool for. The linens were nice, the selection of jams/ jellies, sauces etc were top notch. This is the best kitchen shop in 75 mile radius. What a plus for LaGrande. Definitely will stop in every time I go to LaGrande , thank you for the great items.

While driving I noticed the billboard mentioning Bella Mercantile, so I looked it up online and found the few reviews up convincing enough to give the place a peek. We were quite astounded by the selection in every area! A lot of the products are imported and of very high quality. Lots of nice ceramic items from Poland, Mexico, Tunisia, as well as cutlery from Japan and France. Some things are even made in the USA and Germany. There are things manufactured in China, but they looked sturdy, too. Lots of serious baking and cooking tools, locally made aprons (I think), even other home supplies like bedding sheets, towels, pillows, and rugs made in India. They also have a lot of finer gourmet foods from around the world in the middle section of the shop. We found everything we needed and more. Some of the products are higher priced and others are quite a bargain...so the store should have something suitable for just about anyone who prefers to shop in a more crafted space. The two women working there were super friendly, knowledgeable and quick to offer help. They seemed genuinely happy to there which always makes a big difference. I took a bunch of photos so anyone curious about what is on offer, the handful of photos currently available online don't do it justice. We will definitely be back!

My husband ordered steak bites and I ordered pork medallions. Our drinks came in about 10 minutes, and they were ok, a simple screwdriver and a lemon drop. At about 6:30, a table of 6 was seated next to us. They ordered drinks and meals. Their drinks came immediately, and the waitress was at their table continuously after that, being very attentive, refilling drinks, asking if they needed anything more. At one point, around 6:45, she dropped by our table, letting us know the kitchen was backed up. At 7:00, she said the chef had authorized her to offer us free bread and butter since it was taking so long, so we accepted it because we were starving at that point. Before we could get the bread and butter, however, the table of 6 got their meals delivered to them: 2 risottos, 2 steak bites, and 2 pork medallions. I could hear them raving about their meals, especially their sauces, and they had enough on their plates to share bites with each other. After they were served, the waitress came to us and told us again how backed up the kitchen was. At this point, the table of 6 and my husband and I were the only people there. Our bread came at 7:15, and it was 4 pre sliced pieces of light brown bread that had been toasted on one side. It was dry and had zero flavor. It was served with a dollop each of herb butter and cinnamon butter that tasted like cinnamon frosting. At 7:30, our food finally arrived. It was underwhelming, to say the least. My husband's steak bites consisted of 8 small, overcooked pieces of meat plus a scoop of cold mashed potatoes and what I think was supposed to be pesto. My pork medallions ended up being 2 very small chunks of mystery meat that had been breaded and deep fried with a berry sauce underneath, along with 4 very small, salty pieces of asparagus and a scoop of cold rice pilaf. For the honor of having these meals, we were charged $22 for the steak, and $20 for the pork. Our original plan, since we were staying upstairs in one of their hotel rooms, was to have dinner and breakfast here. After this disaster of a meal, there was no way we were going to chance having our breakfast ruined, as well.

It's hard to describe my breathtaking experience at this kitchen store but I will do my best…read more.... First off, all the staff are super duper kind and helpful. I didn't feel pushed to buy anything, or rushed to see the store or checkout. I kept going around and around and gathering items and dropping them back off to the checkout counter. A very chill employee helped me roughly the first hour I was there, and then Beverly, the shop owner assisted me the remaining 1 hour I spent there. This store exceeded my expectations tenfold. I would turn a corner and there would be more exotic things. The refrigerated alcohol section had this delicious meade or ale. Viking something, perhaps... An eclectic variety of specialty items all around! A unique store with tools and gadgets imported from other countries. You name it, kitchen-wise, and it's likely there! I think I saw a Shakshukka seasoning blend and thought that was wild! That's my signature dish and I've seen the sauce in a jar but not the jar of spices! Just a lovely feel to the store. Positive vibes for sure! At the end of my experience, I told Bella I wish I could ave found an Oregon related patch, perhaps even Baker City, so that I could iron on to a denim jacket I was working on at home! And she said she had one somewhere but couldn't find it. And asked me to leave behind my contact info in case she ever did. Well, 6 months later she contacted me and I was overjoyed to hear from her. She said she'd found the patch and needed my address for it to be sent out. This lady's kindness was next level. I must say, it is one of my top if not FAVE patch on my jacket. Thank you Bella and your wonderful staff, in patiently assisting me. If I ever pass through Baker City again, I'll be sure to stop by your store each and every time. You found a customer for life! :)

There is a lot to look at, but everything is displayed really well. And it's so much more than a cooking/kitchen store. I found several great gifts for the hubby and friends. I will definitely stop here in my future travels to and from Oregon.
