I want to make clear that this review is for take out only...(DoorDash). I ordered a Greek Salad, ($17.00) which was fine and a Chicken Souvlaki, ($28.00) which was not. (6 small cubes of overcooked, dried out chicken, 1 1/2 cups of rice, 1/2 potato which was not peeled and also overcooked, and about a cup of Greek salad). No Pita bread, but a small portion of tzatziki (I think) which was almost liquid and tasted old. With tax, over $50.00 and almost inedible. DoorDash did fine. I live 2 blocks away and the food arrived warm and on time. I will not order from this restaurant again, as this is my second underwhelming experience with them. Not recommended at this time. It's ok but nothing special, nothing compared to "My Greek Taverna" These guy's also run a secondary name under the same location for Ubber eats. Socrates Grill is a pretty great Greek restaurant. When I arrived, I received a table right away. I was served water and had my order taken immediately at my request. I ordered the Calamari entree and thought it was pretty great overall. The calamari were nicely breaded and cooked while tasting great on its own. The tzatziki was splendid and made the calamari more memorable. The side Greek salad was fresh and tasty, thanks to its dressing and feta. The rice was average at best. The unfortunate thing about their Greek entrees is that they no long serve with Pita unless you pay more for it. The countenance of the restaurant's interior looked sophisticated and adore the mild lighting. The staff were very admirable and courteous about serving me. Socrates is a pretty great restaurant, and I would not mind paying patronage there the next time I come by the area. read more

Had lunch at Socrates for the first time in quiet a few years and it was a lovely and tasty meal. I actively like to encourage locals to give this restaurant a go, it has been in Maple Ridge for years and the owners have gone to the expense of updating the interior and offer a great choice in food and beverages. We had the lamb Kabobs and they were delicious and definitely will return as we appreciate the low key atmosphere and service. read more

Had lunch at Socrates on January 7 and it was great! The food was wonderful. Big portions, so lots of leftovers to take home. And a fabulous dessert menu! Our waiter was very friendly and was able to answer any questions we had. Great place for a large group. Will definitely go again! read more

Had the roasted lamb and it went HARRDDD it was so moist and delicioso, I could've eaten a pile of it but the serving was insane and I had to pack up a portion. Greek salad was nice and fresh and the tomatoes were flavourful (despite being out of season), enjoyed the rice as well and they were super accommodating by upping my salad portion to replace the potato I didn't want. Service person was pretty friendly. The 5 stars are for the lamb honestly it was FANTASTIC. Get the roast lamb! read more

We love Greek cuisine and decided to try Socrates in Maple Ridge for the first time. I have driven by this restaurant many times and wanted to try it....what a mistake. We ordered 2 Roast Lamb dishes. When the dishes arrived the lamb was seasoned very well but is was super dry, and overcooked by a LOT and in order to swallow it you had to drink water with it. The "greek potatoes" were russet potatoes with the skin on....that was a first. Absolutely no lemon flavor at all. The rice was actually cooked perfectly with just the perfect bite but way under seasoned....that is why this review gets a 1 and not a zero. Now for the Greek Salad....not sure how to even say this....has anyone ever had a Greek Salad with a cream dressing? It was a mixture between a Ranch and Caesar dressing...and absolutely ZERO Feta....WOW! One thing you would assume a Greek restaurant would get right. Now the simplest thing...no Pita was served....really? My suggestion is if you want authentic Greek food, find another place. read more

I have to say I was a bit nervous to come here as the reviews were awful. Even though the reviews were from 2+ years old I was still nervous. I must say I'm so happy I gave Socrates a chance. AMAZING Greek food. We went there yesterday for dinner. I had the beef souvlaki and my boyfriend had the lamb. They use a creamy dressing on their Greek salad. So yummy!!! Both of us loved our meals, reasonably priced and it was delicious. Our server was lovely as well, very pleasant. I definitely recommend this little gem. read more

One of our regular stops, best Greek restaurant in Maple Ridge. The roast lamb is the go to, always cooked to perfection and fall off the bone. My wife has the lamb souvlaki with prawns and always enjoys it. Wine is reasonably priced and calamari is a great starter. Portions are big so come hungry. read more

In my 40 years alive on this planet I've had the pleasure of experiencing a wide variety of Greek food. This is by far the worst Greek food I've ever had. Half way through the meal tonight I began to feel uneasy as the flavours crossed over into stale and putrid which was clearly achieved by mixing seasoning that doesn't belong on Greek food. The pita was obviously frozen at some point as the freezer burn shined through to my taste buds like a nasty subway sandwich bread that's been over toasted. I am a food addict and I can say this is the first meal I haven't completely fully in my entire life. Socrates would be puking in his grave if he knew how this food almost destroys common philosophy on what tasty foods is meant to be. Don't come here for fresh calamari; it's very chewy and obviously out of a box (all hoops, no tentacles). The waiter was nice about us sending back the calamari, and took it off our bill. The entrees were pretty tasty. We had souvlaki, and the portions were decent. The only warning I'll give is they pour some kind of weird egg-based, hollandaise style sauce all over the Greek salad. If we come back, I'll know to order it without it. Staff are friendly, so give it a try :) read more

Don't understand the mixed reviews on this place. Perhaps it's under new management? Anyway we've eaten twice here in the past few months and each time it was delish. I think their Moussaka is quite possibly the best I've tasted outside of Greece! And the lamb was 'broke da mout' amazing! Fall off the bone good. Plus the atmosphere and ambiance is far superior to any other restaurant in Maple Ridge... They did an awesome job when they renovated it not too long ago. Valentines evening we decided to try Socrates Grill. We had to walk by staff standing outside the restaurant ( some were smoking close to the door ) having a loud conversation about security cameras and staff . As we entered the restaurant a staff member was counting her tips ,seated at one of the front tables, another nearby table had all the cutlery piled upon it. The limited menu was overpriced. Dinner was served with a very soggy Cesar salad and no pita bread , the portion size was ok. The decor is generic , no Greek feel about this place at all. A generous rating of 1 1/2 stars . Won't be back here again. A better Greek restaurant is Opa in Meadowtown mall for a portion of the price and much better food. read more

We came here on a random Tuesday due to other Greek Restaurants being closed that day. There were only 2 other people in the restaurant and it was dead, that should've been our first red flag. We sat down, and ordered Souvlaki Dinners. One chicken, one beef. We found out they don't even serve their pita bread with the meals and you have to pay an extra $7 for it and they only give you 2 pita's w/ very bland tzatziki. We were not impressed. The rice was under-cooked, the lemon potato was boiled and lacking flavour and my beef was chewy. The only decent thing was the Greek Salad. While we were in the restaurant I noticed they didn't have heat on, no music was playing so it was dead quiet. Then the owner/manager(?) was getting mad at the waitress, by the end of our meal he had dropped something in the kitchen and was screaming and throwing a tantrum and F bombs. Absolutely horrible. Absolutely disgusting. Have been a regular customer of over 20 years, then management changed and so did everything else. Started to become a hit & miss on my go to Calamari & Greek Salad. The last time was a total miss and will never attempt again. Hope management starts caring as the kitchen staff clearly don't and should be embarrassed of the crap that landed on my plate only to be dumped in the garbage. Trying to support local during these tough times, but a complete waste of money. Opening a box of frozen calamari and heating it myself would have been 100X better than their chewy rubber. The salad looked like it was chopped with a machete and was not fresh at all, picked out the mushy tomatoes and was left with oversize pieces of green pepper and old cucumber, you could almost smell the mold starting to grow? My family has been to this place three times now. It is a typical Greek family restaurant with a plant covered ceiling and murals everywhere. The music is modern Greek style, the table and chairs are comfortable. I had the Calamari Dinner and my BF had the Lamb Dinner. Each came with rice, roasted potato, tzatziki, pita bread, salad and lemon wedges. The Calamari was really good, I hate then it's overcooked and rubbery but this had a crispy coating and was tender. The Lamb was fork tender and not fatty at all. The prices are very reasonable, both of us had drinks and dinner for $41, it is our favourite Greek place on the lower mainland so far. We have also had the prawn and chicken souvlaki before and both were extremely good! There are two reasons I couldn't give them 5 stars. The first is the service can be a little slow. We waited 15 minutes from the time we sat down before our waitress came by our table and my plate was so overloaded with rice that it spilled onto the table. Having said that, the wait staff are always really friendly and helpful. Once we ordered our meal and drinks were delivered quickly. Socrates is YUM! read more

Socrates makes the best Greek salad I've ever had. I don't know what the creamy sauce is made of but it's delicious! Everything else is typical Greek fare that is consistently good. I usually get the mixed souvlaki or the roast lamb dinner, and I always have leftovers for lunch! read more

The food here wasn't bad but the service was lacking and there were a couple details I can't help but comment on. The roast lamb was delicious. The rice was great. The toast potato was good but not enough lemon flavour. The Greek salad on the plate was not a Greek salad. It had what I was told was the house dressing on it. A creamy dressing of some kind. That's not a Greek salad!! One olive and a dusting of feta?? Very disappointing because I love a good Greek salad. The waitress wasn't very good at removing dirty plates from our table or other tables in the restaurant even after the guests had left. At $72 for two adults and one child, (that's including the calamari appetizer which wasn't great either), I thought it was definitely underwhelming and not worth another try. read more

Ate here tonight with friends who had eaten here with the old owners. I would not go back! They will not go back! The service was good because the restaurant was dead empty! The food is overpriced! the portions are small and no pita bread unless you order it as a side at $2.00 each! Our kids shared a chicken souvlaki and they only got 1 skewer of meat, one lemon potato, rice and Greek salad for a whooping $17! The meat portions are so small, food is fine but nothing to write home about and definitely not for that price! The wine menu is good but also over priced ! I came here for dinner with my family. My dad had suggested it because he had been here before and was really craving Greek food. My first impressions were that the decor was nice, apparently they had just done some renovations, and the place was pretty quiet for a Friday night. We were seated right away, the servers were friendly but rather slow for an empty restaurant. The food came out quickly and the portions were huge, but I was rather disappointed with the quality. The food was kind of greasy and the flavoring was ok. The food was ok, but I don't think I would go running back for my Greek food fix. read more

DONT EAT HERE!!!!! I have lived in the neighbourhood a long time and this restaurant was great years ago, I am sure it was taken over but for some reason we have not eaten here for a while. So today we decided to order take out. OMG! it was the worse thing, I have ever experienced, the food which consisted of 4 main courses was cold but the salad was luke warm, and ROTTEN!!! plus we were missing one, which really annoyed me as it was $70, yes that's right a take out for 4 people $70, no drinks in that just 4 meals, would have cost me $35-$45 anywhere else and we would of had got so much better. The rice was microwave rice, the meat/calamari was like rock and lacked flavour, they simply DO NOT CARE about the food they put out. Go to OPA in Meadow town centre for Greek, you'll pay a third of the price and be more satisfied and it would be more fresh!! read more

We decided to support local for dinner and check out this restaurant. First it was dead only 1 other table but the phone was ringing a lot for pick up. We ordered an appetizer platter and asked the size. The menu said it came with pita but apparently they no longer include this. We ordered a side of calamari, the waitress should have told is how much comes with the platter, it was not needed and would have been a waste of money. Everything was luke warm. The dolmades were ice cold in the centre. Calamari was chewy and not crispy. Spanakopita was warm on the edges but cool in the centre. Clearly everything was microwaved. After sitting for 20 min with no help from the waitress with the terrible wig even after my husband tried to get her attention. I went up to the bar to complain about the meal. The waitress was rude and flippant. A second waitress offered to get the manager. He came right over and said no cooks want to work during covid and offered to remove the second order of calamari and adjust the bill. We waited another 10+ minutes with no bill and left money on the table and walked out. Both the manager and the wigged waitress chased us out the door and accused us of not paying. At this point there was a line up of people picking up. We went back in and showed them the money and argued about the bill some more and left. This food is disgusting and a microwave has no business being in a kitchen. If they cant get a cook they should not be open for service. read more

We've been going to Socrates for many years and it's always been very good. After tonight I will not be back. This was my boyfriends special birthday dinner :( he hates it when I hate it. The food was just okay and the service was awful. our appetizer was half finished and the lady serving us whisked it away without asking if we we wanted to take it home (we did but oh well) I had to ask for tzatziki (this is commonly served with a greek dinner) it was served late and charged extra for and later taken off the bill but it's the whole idea that first you have to ask then the charge you for it - and besides that hassle the food I thought was mediocre i love rice and potatoes and thanks to the greasy rice and mushy potato my body thanks them for for it being not enjoyable to eat. I will definitely be going back to the other Maple Ridge option - Pyrgos which was really good last time. Sorry Socrates - big FAIL!!!! read more
