Installation was beyond bad. There were a couple of kids that had no idea what they were doing, and left with minimal supervision. They came back to fix some of the issues but I decided that it would be easier to fix myself than continue to deal with these jokers. read more

I was referred to Zach and Soco Window & Door, aka Window Haus, by some friends who worked with him a few years back. I wish i had read these yelp reviews before i did business with Zach. When ordering the windows he was quite responsive, once i gave him my 50% deposit, communication stopped. I placed my order in early November. I first tried getting an update in early January. Since January, i have been able to reach Zach exactly 3 times by phone. He has not returned a single phone call or replied to a single email of mine (of which i have sent many). I have tried working this with Milgard (the window MFR), however they have not been helpful and their standard response has been "we are asking Zach to reach out to you"...of course i have heard nothing from Zach. So here I am 5 months after paying my down payment, and i have no idea when i will receive my windows, and have heard nothing from Zach. read more

Worst customer service I have ever seen. Our windows were over a month late, and Zach originally said he would have a team to help us install all of our new Windows, which did not happen. His cavalier attitude towards our window delay was very frustrating to say the least. We had to go to the customer service people at the window manufacturing company to ever find out any info. A neighbor recommended Zach/SOCO Window after he & his crew did a good job at her house. Zach was easy to reach and responded promptly to emails, texts, and phone calls. I am confident that Zach gave me a reasonable bid and paying him was easy through an online portal. He emailed me photos of the windows they reinstalled during the process so that I could see the problems & fixes. Finally, he arranged for a stucco crew, and they worked hard and painted well too. After a year of trying to save money on my original wood 1950's windows with new glazing, window films, replacement panes, screen repairs, and new paint, I realized that I never wanted to open my windows! The difficulty of opening the windows due to sticking or for fear a window pane would break from too much force, kept me enclosed all year round. And after a very cold winter, I realized that there are limitations to single pane windows that no amount of money & super-duper space age films could fix. The single pane would never be able keep the winter cold out and would never reduce the sound. That's when I decided to investigate replacing my windows. I was impressed with what I had read online about The Soco Studio as I wanted to work with a locally owned green business that carried a variety of windows. First, I met with a co-owner and salesman, Zach, at my home. He brought window samples and patiently explained the benefits of each type of window material and it's energy efficiency. He was careful to stick to my budget as I didn't want sticker shock. Once I felt comfortable with the initial estimate, I went to The Soco Studio showroom so I could test out full sized windows, try out different locking devices and see the ease of cleaning each type of window. While in the showroom, I was able to meet all the employees including the installer, the office manager, and the site inspector, Barley the Dog, a fun-loving Labrador Retriever. After selecting the window frame color and options, Zach came back to my house with the installer, John, and site inspector, Barley. While Barley was inspecting the grounds, he located a tennis ball for a game of fetch as his coworkers were busy double checking measurements and details of my order. This gave me the confidence that everyone was onboard with my project and no surprises once they returned to install. The installation was quick and painless with no surprises. Once the job was complete, Barley the Dog gave my house his final Paw of Approval. And if that wasn't enough, the original windows were taken to a reclaim facility to have the materials reused and not off to the dump. Not only do I have the best looking house on the block due to my swanky new windows, I have the most energy efficient. I'm looking forward to lower energy bills and can now easily open my windows when the weather is nice! read more

I have used Soco for windows and doors on multiple investment properties and have been impressed with the service and prices each time. As an investor, I usually have a strict budget and they work closely with me to make sure we can stay within that budget. As one other reviewer also mentioned below, Zach was honest enough to let me know one time when there was a product that I could get cheaper somewhere else. The other owner, John, is very knowledgable and also personally came out to get window measurements and then came again to hand deliver the windows when I was ready to have them installed. In the construction industry there are a lot of companies out there that are not trustworthy, so when you find a good one you keep them close. Without any doubt the worst experience we've had with a window and door supplier in our 15 year history. We ordered appx $25,000 worth of windows. Zachary went radio silent on us for weeks on end holding up our entire renovation project. When he suddenly reappeared after threats of lawsuits he began to send the most unprofessional emails. He began stating that because he feared we were not going to pay, he was only going to deliver a portion of the order. It was the most random thing we've ever heard. This group is beyond the pale. I would not do business with them again and strongly urge anyone else considering them to look elsewhere. read more

That guy was supposed to show up at 3.30pm, 3.45pm no call/no email/no text, 4pm I get a text from the guy saying he is in traffic and won't be able to make it; never bothered reschedule appointment. Be warned, this company can not be trusted. The owner is dishonest, deceitful and has no business representing Milgard. My original order and payment in full, was made January 29, 2019. After many emails, unreturned calls I made an inquiry Milgard as to the status of my order (March 22 2019). Milgard stated they had a quote but no order. The Millard rep. got involved and the order was finally received. Soco delivered the order on March 11. Milgard makes an awesome product, just find another dealer. read more

At the end of April, we ordered 2 windows and a sliding glass door. There was a 8 week lead time on the door, and the wrong door delivered. One of the windows had a solar screen ordered with it. The screen did not arrive. We were told it had to be reordered, and would take 8 weeks. 90 days later we again inquired about the screen we had paid for, only to be told it had been delivered; just not to us. We are still waiting to be "called right back" with a disposition. We never get called right back, and 6 months later, still no screen. SoCo has good quality products, but a really lacking sales force, and no follow through at all. I suspect most of the other Yelp reviews are what the sales staff spend their time doing. read more

I would absolutely not recommend hiring Soco Window & Door. If you decide to take the risk and hire them, I would highly encourage you to go into it very cautiously. If anything goes wrong, do not expect them to take it seriously and do not expect them to go the extra mile to make things right. The ownership does not take responsibility and will haggle you to get out of paying for their mistakes. You can be assured that Soco Window & Door will do whatever it can to take your money while expecting you to be content with their horrible quality of work. The Details: I recently hired Soco Window & Door to replace the three external doors on my house. The installation of the doors was decent. The painting of the doors, on the other hand, concluded as the worst experience I have had in the ownership of my house. During installation, we noticed that the quality of the painting was extremely poor. The paint was light and in some places non existent (there are many places where no paint was applied to the door). The brush strokes are random and not consistent (imagine a two year old coloring book and you will get the idea). There are numerous dings, smudges, and marks in the paint itself. There are many places where the paint was mistakenly applied to the black rubber seals around the door. It's almost as if the person who painted the doors had never painted before. Then the person said, out loud: "I've never painted before." Our mouths puckered with frustration. He then followed up with: "I hate this. I'm never painting again." We could not believe what we were hearing. We immediately told the foreman that the painting was not going well. The owner, who visited the job site, said out loud: "These doors will need to be repainted." Whew, crisis averted! Nope. The worst was yet to come. The doors were never repainted. The owner never followed up to check the quality he saw was bad. The salesperson called to ask how installation went, and I verbalized my disappointment, again, in the painting. He said he would check with the owner. He never called back. A week later I got a bill from the salesperson asking to close the account. I replied and asked about the poor paint job and again, no response. I escalated to the owner as I knew he saw first hand how bad the paint was. He refused to take responsibility. For the next week the owner and I haggled over how to fix the bad paint. He wanted to have his team come back out and repaint the doors. This could have been an option I was open to except I didn't really want the person who had never painted before trying his luck again. I declined and asked for $300, or half off the price I paid to have the doors painted. The owner then told me it only cost him $300 total to paint the doors, although he quoted me $600. The owner refused the discount of half off the quoted price, his only reason being that he could not afford it. The salesperson then informed me that before anything else proceeded, he needed to inspect the quality doors. I was relieved by this as I knew that upon seeing how bad the doors were painted, Soco Window & Door would finally come around. The salesperson showed up and I took him around and showed him each door inside and out, and even had a document where I documented on a diagram of the doors each mark, paint brush stroke, ding, dent, smudge, and splatter. The salesperson took only two pictures with his cell phone, and they were only of one side of one door. I was flabbergasted as to his indifference to how bad the paint was. The owner contacted me a few days later, only gave me a $40 discount (6% off the quoted price of $600), and asked me to pay the bill immediately. I knew I would not win and the haggling nightmare would continue ... so I paid them. My doors are horrible and I finally gave in and paid the money they demanded from me. And to make it worse, I will have to pay even more money to have a company I trust repaint the doors. I guess the customer is not always right. I will never work with them again. read more

This company does not have the ability to handle the volume of business they are doing, and their customer service is extremely poor. In our case, their only role was to place our order and deliver the windows. Despite confirming and re-confirming the order through our general contractor, the SOCO team got it wrong and neglected to order one of our three windows. This delayed finalization on our project by ~6 weeks, which of course cost us money, time, and sanity. The attitude we encountered from SOCO was basically 'deal with it.' No sincere apology, no offer of expediting the correction order, no offer of a discount, etc. To top off this very negative experience, one of our windows was missing a small bit of trim. It took SOCO several weeks and multiple follow-up requests until we finally got the piece just today. I understand that all the trades and suppliers are extremely busy right now, but that's no excuse for dumb mistakes and a bad attitude. Skip this company; they provide no value (quite the opposite), and they're kinda jerks. read more

I am so grateful to SoCo windows for being a company that provides quality service and quality windows at an affordable price! My project was a significant remodel that included cutting through brick to add several windows (including a big beautiful picture window) and replacing all the others in my 1990s home. The estimates I received from the other companies were outrageously inflated! I thought I would have to give up my dream of having new windows. When I got such a reasonable estimate from SoCo, I was so happy but also a little nervous that the quality might not be up to par. My fears were totally unfounded!! The planning, demo, installation, and finishing work went off without a hitch. The workers were respectful and didn't leave a mess. I could tell everyone involved really wanted to do the job right. I LOVE the quality of the windows! I'm so happy, living in a light, bright, quiet, energy efficient house! Zach and Max are laid back, so if you are looking for guys in suits you won't find it here, but they deliver quality windows with friendly and prompt service that can't be beat. Met with Zach and looked at plastic color samples because my windows are not white. We found one a shade off and chose it. Once they are delivered they are not the shade of the plastic piece he showed me (see photo) they are white. He now has a brochure with the color I ordered which is not even close. I think he mixed up color samples and is not willing to correct that mistake. I own a lot of properties. I branched out to a new vendor and wished to God I had not. DON'T TRUST THIS GUY. I HAVE LOST THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND HE DOES NOT CARE OR TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. SHADY......RUN.......TOO SMALL OF A BUSINESS TO HANDLE A COSTLY MISTAKE. read more

As a homeowner that dealt with The Soco Studio LLC from May 20, 2011 until May 10, 2012 in an effort to replace 3 windows in a five year old home, I can unequivocally say that I would not recommend doing business with them. They sell products and then do not stand by them and have no recourse with the manufacturer. Additionally, they use sub contractors to do the installation work. The windows I bought from Soco were the Serious Windows 525 Series to replace aluminum windows in a west-facing bedroom. The windows sell themselves with a thermal performance up to R-5. At the time of purchase, The Soco Studio was the only company in Austin that sold them. I placed my order for the windows in June; installation was at the end of August. This wait was understandable since the windows are manufactured to order. I paid $975 for installation which took about four hours. The installers refused to remove the adhesive stickers from the windows (inside and out), meaning I would have to get a 12' ladder in order to do it myself. Later, when I questioned the owner, Zachery, on this practice, he stated that if I had wanted the windows cleaned, I could have paid an additional $40. After installation, one window would not stay open because of a broken balance rod. Parts were ordered, but Soco's contractors were not knowledgeable enough to replace the rod. I had to wait for a technician that was contracted by the manufacturer to replace the part. The technician visited my home on five occasions. The first visit was not until October, to replace the rod, but other parts were needed. The second visit, in December, was to replace those parts. At this point the window would open and close, but had visible gaps between the sash and frame. With the wind and cold temperatures during this visit, air was felt coming through all three windows. I was told by John at Soco that all three sashes would be replaced because of gaps. The third visit was to measure sashes. In April, the same technician was dispatched to my home. He did not have three sashes; he only had the frame (no glass) to one of the windows. During the process of removing the glass from the old frame, he cracked the window glass. He taped it together with shipping tape until he could return. On May 10th, the technician returned and this time replaced the glass and frame and added weather stripping to all three windows. I was finally satisfied with the work and signed off on the work order. During this whole ordeal, the owner, Zachery, never visited the site to inspect the work. Within two hours of this final installation work, he showed up at my house to collect the final payment. He promised to replace one of the screens because is sags. It's been four months and that hasn't happened. I would also like to add that I never received a visit, phone call or email from anyone at Serious Windows even though it is my understanding that their regional manager visits our area on a regular basis and their regional service coordinator was cc'd on emails exchanged between Soco Studio and myself. Summary: Soco Studio does nothing more than take measurements and place orders. The homeowner is burdened with any problems that arise. Zachary even had the gall to ask for final payment after the first visit and then again in October when the window wasn't even functional. Serious Windows are nice (they did bring down the temperature in a room that was 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the house to within a couple degrees difference), but I would not recommend them since they did not take ownership of this problem which obviously occurred during manufacturing (sash too small for frame and broken balancer rod). I also question their overall quality since the air leak/gap was corrected with weather stripping. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

We hired soco windows to replace some windows in our house. Zack was pleasant and the windows were verbally described and displayed to us on the first day we met. many suggestions were made on the style and shape of the windows. A few weeks later, we met zack at the house to finalize an order of windows that we expected to be ordered be installed after a sequence of emails. Zack took an order on the iPad and we provided payment information for the windows. When the windows came, all except one were correct according to the emails, quotes, and discussions that were made and because we never signed or received any paperwork, i didn't have much to go on except he said she said sort of thing. The bank agreed that we did not get what we expected on one particular window out of the group of windows. And i felt that was fair because it was indeed the wrong style from what we had discussed. Unfortunately, no paperwork was provided at purchase or throughout the process that related directly to the order (i.e., a receipt of what we bought, styles, etc...only a purchase receipt with an total amount), so it made things more difficult, but the bank agreed because of the lack of documentation that Soco was indeed incorrect and was able to retrieve the funds to us for the incorrect window. Eventually we were sued by SOCO windows which is on going. Apparently soco believes that they do not ever mis-communicate or have to document any orders and that once they receive money and a credit card signature, that they have free raign on the budget allocated. So, for future reference, make sure you get all things in writing and signed by both parties (you and soco), and double check them to make sure they do not tell you something you are not expecting or mis-place the order, use an old order you previously discussed, or confuse you with a different customer, or accidentally mis-remember ( sorry for the roger clemon's quote). still, to this day, i don't have any documents that we signed or soco signed regarding the order. and as a customer, who is dealing with a much bigger deal during a remodel than just windows, to have to keep track and request for paperwork that should have been provided for me to defend myself is frustrating. The case is pending, and we will have to trust the judgement of the judge. And if you view the filters you will see a similar story, after reading it you may agree that sometimes, for a merchant, it is actually healthy and recommended to "eat a window" every once in a while. read more

Soco Window & Door in Austin, TX is the absolute worst business in the country. They gave our contractor a quote for exactly 4 weeks. Our contractor confirmed this four times because our framers had a limited window to work our job. The day before the windows were supposed to be delivered, we were notified that it would be two additional weeks before they could be delivered. On the "new" delivery date, the windows never showed up. Instead, they were put on a truck to west Texas and arrived mid-afternoon the following day. Furthermore, they didn't come assembled and we were told that Soco would charge additional fees to come out to assemble them. Throughout this process, our contact, Max, was unreachable and never returned our calls. This isn't a business, it's a joke. read more

I recently had my old aluminum windows and patio door that were installed over 30 years ago replaced with new Milgard windows and a new patio door from The Soco Studio in Austin. I did quite a bit of research on the internet about available replacement windows and doors and I chose Milgard because their products are made in the USA, offer high quality, look great and come with a full lifetime warranty. I later found out that Builder Magazine has named Milgard the Brand Leader in Overall Vinyl Quality for 2012 and several previous years. They even won a design award for the window closing mechanism. Zach, one of the owners, came out to my house and told me about the different options. He was very professional and there was no pressure to make a quick buying decision. I selected the Milgard Tuscany Series vinyl windows. These windows come with dual glazed insulated glass and various other options including tempered glass. After I selected all the options Zach sent me a detailed quote for the entire project to replace all windows and the patio door. After I was ready to get the project started, John, one of the other owners, came out to take the final measures and to show me a sample window of the Tuscany series. We also discussed the options for the window sills and trim. John recommended African mahogany treated with teak wood oil because it would be a nice contrast to the white windows. John told me that The Soco Studio has the all wood pieces custom made by a local mill and they can offer the sills in various other wood types depending on the design of the existing interior of the home. After The Soco Studio ordered the windows it took around 2 weeks to get them made and shipped. They had a very professional crew deliver and install all windows within a couple of days. Everything went perfect. Since this was a remodel and not new construction I was concerned about a big mess inside the house from the install but the install guys created no mess at all and cleaned up after themselves. The new windows look great ! After the windows were installed John came out to bring me the wood for the sills and trim so I could apply the teak wood oil. A week later he came back out to install the sills and trim. He was right. The African mahogany looks stunning against the windows. In fact I like the African mahogany so much that I am in the process to replace all the floor boards in my house with the same type of wood. Needless to say buying my new Milgard windows from The Soco Studio was a great experience and I would definitely recommend the company to anyone looking for new windows. Good windows, horrible install on my late 2013 project. You might be okay if buying just the materials but I would avoid having them install unless their crew has changed. Or be very meticulous in first meeting with the project foreman that will be onsite during install and get in writing the series of installation steps, that the foreman will be there the entire time, who on his crew is installing what window, and cleanup all documented and agreed to with monetary penalties for not performing those steps. read more

I replaced 30 windows and 7 sliding glass doors. I wanted a very low profile window with as high energy rating as possible. After researching many brands Milgard was my top choice. I then researched companies and landed on Soco WIndow and Door. They were easy to work with, very responsive, answered all of my questions, and worked with me to figure out the best configurations for my house. With this big of an installation, we found a couple things during the final walk through that Zach wanted to have addressed. He had his team over the next day to make those quick changes and adjustments. I am very happy I found Soco. read more

I has SoCo put in new windows and the installation was done well, but the process getting to that point was a bit of a problem, because communication about any delays was sketchy at best. But the work was done well and they cleaned up after themselves. I thought I'd give them another chance and had them install a door to a garden studio. During the initial consultation I was not asked about a lock in the door and I called them a few days before delivery of the door if the would put in a lock. I was told "Yes, we can do that". I was given a key to give to the installers. But the installers never had a lock to install. I was told the lock would be here in a few days, maybe a week. I left the country for 5 weeks, my son was here. Nobody from Soco ever called to follow up about the lock installation. I came back 5 weeks later and to my dismay noticed that no lock was installed. I called Soco and they told me they contacted the manufacturer to contact me, which apparently did not happen and nobody from Soco followed up. After I called them upon my return, they assured me they would contact the manufacturer and would call me back shortly, nobody has called back yet. The only consolation I have ist that I have not payed the invoice completely. To sum it up: the work is good, but communication and follow up is lacking badly. read more
