I called a number of local shoe repair places and Clarke's was the first one to answer that had weekend hours so I opted to give them a try. Initially, I dropped off the shoe and was told I would get a call with an estimate. I dropped them off on a Saturday and had heard nothing by the following Sunday so I reached out via Facebook messenger and left my number. I was called back by Farrell, the owner, and given a quote, a time estimate and an option to pay via PayPal (they don't do credit cards). Once that was all squared away, Clarke's went to work on my shoe. When it was finished Farrell called me to let me know I could pick it up and explained a little about what he did to the shoe. While Bel Air is a bit of a drive for me, the customer service and quality of the work that Clarke's provided means I will be returning in the future.

There was a small divot of the leather that had been gouged out of the top of the toe. It was barely visible from a standing distance, but very obvious when viewed closer. He worked his magic using some type of filler and then applied a professional polish. When I went to pick up the shoes, I couldn't tell which shoe had been repaired, it was that good. We needed a little flap of leather added to my son's baseball glove, and after researching online baseball forums, everyone said that any reputable shoe/leather repair place would be able to do it. My husband sent off a message to Contino's along with photos of what we needed, but we never received a response. We took a chance and drove to the shop with the glove and photographs. We were greeted by a pleasant woman and we explained what we wanted. Without even standing up or looking at the glove, the man beside her said, "Oh yeah....I don't deal with those." I looked surprised and he continued with, "I'd have to deconstruct the entire glove and it's too much work." And that was it. I understand that he didn't want to take on the job, but I found his response to be very short and cold, considering that our family made a special trip there because of the lack of response to our initial inquiry. After having a not so great experience at another local shoe repair place that's not really a shoe…read morerepair place but rather a shoe store trying to get you to not repair your shoe & spend double the price on new shoes, I decided to drive a little further & find a real shoe repair place. This place was the 1 that popped up with the best reviews. Indeed it is a tiny hole in the wall joint. It is very easy to miss. It's literally a little house next to the TD bank that's right next to Vito's pizza. You walk in & immediately the smell of rubber & shoe polish slaps you in the face. Eventually an old little man comes to to help you. He's very short & direct with his customer services skills but looks like he knows what he's doing from the wear & tear on his hands & face. I hand him my $300 boots from a couple seasons ago that I love & tell him I want to resole them & shine them up. Basically make them look new again bc all the salt & snow from last year really did a number on the soles. He looks them over & tells me, "It's going to cost a lot." I ask how much & he tells me $45. I tell him these are good, expensive boots that are worth it. You have to leave 50% deposit on your job. I decided to pay the full amount & that way I can just pick them up when I come back next week for them. I'll finish up my review next week when I pick them up & report on the work it self. But I'm sure it will be quite promising as these mom&pop places are always the best at doing these jobs. ******** As expected, my boots look good as new. Terrible experience. The guy didn't do anything that was asked of him and then took an attitude…read morewhen I asked why he didn't do any of the things discussed when the boots were dropped off for repair. He was supposed to replace the soles on both boots, replace the insole and patch a piece of fabric on both heels that had worn out on the inside. He didn't replace the soles, superglued the holes in the bottom of the soles that were causing leaks. He didn't replace the insole just glued a piece of leather down on the inside and didn't touch the heals on either. When brought up he threw out a number that was 3x what he had originally said it would cost to do the work described when dropped off and would not offer a reduction with the money already spent even though he did not do any of the work requested previously. Language barrier is definitely an issue but all the same to drop off after paying what he said it would cost for the work requested and then have none of it done and told to pay more was very frustrating. Would not recommend this place to anyone and will be looking for a competent shoe/ boot repair place going forward. Save your money and time and find somewhere else.
