This is a long one, but I need to tell the whole story. I have never had a worse customer service experience in my life. I called to see if I could get an appointment and as I was asking Jenny cut me off and told me "no appointments, just bring it in". Kind of rude, but that doesn't mean she does bad work. So I brought in a bridesmaids dress about 2.5-3 weeks before I'd need it. I knew it needed to be hemmed and the cups needed to be removed from the bust. Jenny agreed that would solve our problems. As she got down to pin the hem she exclaimed how dresses these days have so much fabric and she acknowledged that this dress had 3 layers. She said it would be ready by the 15th which was cutting it close because I needed to leave out of town on the 20th but I thought it'll be fine since it's just a hem and some cups being removed. On the 14th I was going to be coming right past the shop so I called on the 13th and asked if it were finished could I pick it up early. A younger man answered the phone and told me that if it wasn't meant to be picked up until the 15th then it hadn't even been started yet. I found that odd, why did she have the dress for 2.5 weeks without even touching it? But whatever.
I did pass through on the 14th and thought I'd try my luck, at the very least I could inquire about the total price. Jenny mentioned during the first fitting that a hem is usually about $45-55 but I never got an exact total. I stopped in and asked about the dress and she said she hadn't started it yet but it would be ready by that afternoon and that it would be $55. I said okay and left. About 10 min after I left I got a phone call from Jenny who seemingly was upset with me and kept saying "I can't do this for $55! Too much fabric! Skirt is too big! Too many layers! This will take me hours to pin!" Well, what in the world did you wait until then to start it for? You saw the dress weeks ago when I brought it in, you didn't realize then it would take hours to pin?! But again, whatever. Fine. She said the new price is $80 but I could still pick it up that afternoon. I said okay, but I work afternoons and at this point I had a bad feeling about it so I asked if my mother could please get the dress for me so I had it as early as I could in the event something wasn't right.
My mom picked up the dress for me while I was at work and called me and said "I got the dress but you'll never believe how they treated me." When my mom went to pick it up she said "Can I ask a question about why the price changed?" She wasn't trying to be rude, was just simply inquiring as to what caused the price to change and Jenny's husband and son jumped all over her immediately and said "Do you have it in writing? Do you have a quote? Then that conversation never happened. Get it in writing next time. You don't know what conversation was had between us and your daughter". My poor 62 year old mother who is just trying to do her daughter a favor is getting screamed at by 2 grown men for asking a question. She said Jenny came out of the back and told her husband to calm down and she explained to my mom how much fabric needed to be cut off the dress and that's why the price changed. My mother said okay, that's all she wanted to know, gave her the $80 and left. The hem was done well and she did do what I asked by removing the cups but it didn't fix the issues I had with the bust. I don't blame her for that because I never asked for that to be done but I did have to find a 2nd seamstress to fix the bust area and as that seamstress was pinning the dress she pointed out 2 different stains on the dress that she believed to be blood. It looked as if someone had pricked their finger while sewing and a few drops of blood got smeared on the dress. Thankfully those stains kind of fell into the pleats and couldn't be seen because I did not have time to get it dry cleaned before the wedding. Ultimately the work wasn't done terribly, it was just a terrible customer service experience. As I was at the wedding telling this story to the other bridesmaids, one of whom got married about a year ago, she was telling me how this same location completely ruined her wedding dress just weeks before her wedding and she ended up having to get a new one last minute.
Don't let the google reviews fool you, these Yelp reviews are the most accurate depiction of getting a garment altered at Jenny's. I'd use extreme caution before using this shop. read more
