If you're looking for a cozy spot with a simple yet traditional menu, The Social Sloth is a hidden gem you need to visit! The freshly made bread and pastries are an absolute delight, making each bite feel like a warm hug from a culinary grandma. I couldn't resist the menemen, and while it may seem basic at first glance, the explosion of flavors made it clear this dish is anything but ordinary. The ambiance is charming and unpretentious, making it a perfect place for a casual brunch or a laid-back coffee date. Friendly staff, great food, and a vibe that makes you want to come back. Logistics. In shopping plaza, just east of Marsh Road along northside of Central Park Dr, connecting to Time Square Drive, in Okemos. Vibe and First Impressions. Galley-like set up as you walk in. Breakfast diner vibes more than 'cafe and bakery'. Kitchen to your left as you walk down short corridor into cafe. Sloth-like chill attitude encouraged; the hashtag is #letshangtogether. Had fun looking at all the little sloth decor throughout. Lots of light and glass. VERY limited seating; seats about 15 (?) inside; mostly 2 tops and a 6 top. When we walked in, we were greeted warmly, permitted to sit where ever we would like, then handed menus. Turkish music playing was just a bit too loud. Hospitality. Friendly and helpful. Owner-chef seemed very happy to be there, singing and engaging with his regulars. Offerings. Basic breakfast and lunch items with Turkish and Mediterranean classics. No flavored lattes but other basic espresso drinks offered. Chai was excellent. Had the Turkish coffee because it was a Turkish joint; was REALLY good; strong. We had the Simit Platter; sesame-like NY bagel, feta chunks, and olives. All very good. See pics. Apparently they offer cooking classes, catering, and meal prep pick-up -- for ever-changing healthier, fresh, easy-prep take-out options. Of Note and Last Impressions. Lot parking. Overall, fun. read more

We tried a variety of dishes from here when visiting family. We got all of them for takeout for lunch. The menemen was my favorite. Like scrambled eggs with tomatoes and onions. It was tasty and even better with the bread they provided. It could've been packaged in a better way because the oil dripped out everywhere by the time we got it home. Maybe a plastic container with a tight fitting lid. The mezze platter was also quite nice, especially the carrot appetizer. The bulgur patties were also flavorful. The artichoke was slightly disappointing because it didn't have any other flavor than salt and vinegar, similar to canned/bottled artichokes. The salad was fresh and the dressing was light. Overall, this was a light and tasty lunch. read more

Turkish cafe! Great food, great vibes. We ordered Turkish egg, Turkish tea and beef pastries. We also ordered eclairs. I can't discribe how delicious everything was! The egg is mixed with tomato sauce and onion. Very unique flavor. The pastries tasted similar to samosa. Puffy and warm. Prices are unbeatable! I highly recommend this place for breakfast or brunch. read more

We were in Bodrum, Turkey on a Virgin Voyages cruise. The people and food were amazing. The people at this restaurant, the food, the deserts were also amazing. We had two different plates that had a number of different sauces, humus, chicken, meatballs and salads. We also had the soup which was amazing. We also had the tea. Everything was so fresh, so flavorful , so friendly. The Turkish music in the back ground was the icing on the cake. We are going to tell our friends and family about it. We actually got some deserts and Hummus to go. We will be back and it will not be soon enough. read more

I had read about this place when looking for places not far from MSU and thought it sounded interesting. I've never tried Turkish food and it was amazing. I met up with my daughter and 2 of her friends and all of us liked all of our lunches. I also got a piece of Baklava to go and it was amazing. The Turkish tea was amazing also. I will definitely be back! read more

The Social Sloth Cafe & Bakery has been on my list for a while, and it did not disappoint, and most definitely lived up to the hype. I ordered the Köfte, which are Turkish meatballs, and they were delicious, especially with the mint yogurt sauce on the side. The rice was perfectly cooked, and the salad provided a nice complement to the savory flavor of the dish. I, of course, ordered the baklava for a dessert, and it was by far my favorite part--so delicious! I'm happy I stopped by, and will for sure be a repeat customer. I'm hoping to try something new each time I stop by! read more

In in a modest café setting and located in an area with a lot of restaurants, Social Sloth has found a way to stand out with flavors and food found nowhere else in the Lansing area. We had the Mezze combination plate of Kisir bulgur salad, sautéed carrot with yogurt and sautéed broccoli, along with delectable marinated chicken. My companion had the sucuk sandwich, but, really, we couldn't get enough of the Mezze plate. The eclairs for dessert were excellent. This is Turkish food, not "middle eastern," and Social Sloth is well worth the stop. read more

The vibes were incredibly cute! However, felt like the lentils soup was not the best. Roommate and I ended up getting sick from it and haven't been back since. It's a cute shop and we love supporting local businesses, but we haven't had wanted to return since. Service was short and to the point. Wasn't asked how our food was. read more

Okemos is so lucky to have Social Sloth in our community! We have been big fans since they opened in downtown Lansing, and they just relocated here. Delicious Turkish classic foods, lovingly prepared. And don't miss the baked goods--they are all outstanding. For my birthday a couple of years ago, I special ordered a layer cake, and it was INCREDIBLE (and beautiful). Now serving brunch/lunch and dinner (11am-8pm) and according to Instagram I think they plan to offer "weekly boxes" of baked goods. The owners and staff are warm and friendly people, so glad they are here! read more

I was downtown getting my steps in last month and stopped in to the Social Sloth Cafe & Bakery on a whim to grab a snack. I ended up leaving with a few Turkish treats and a slice of spinach/feta pie (?). I am not sure what any of the things I bought were called but they were are all great! The Turkish treats had a nougat/gum drop-like texture and they were infused with rose, pomegranate, or coconut, and pistachios both on the inside and outside of the treat. The spinach/feta pie (?) was amazing. I would buy an entire sheet tray of it if I could eat it all! I'll definitely be back to try out more of their treats and will probably stay for a cup of coffee next time! read more

This is the place for breakfast! I've had a few things and they've all been fantastic. And even better, they are so nice and helpful when helping you pick out your food. I've tried two of the borek: a sort of casserole with flaky dough and filling and both were incredible! Both potato cheese and zucchini. The little cheese and parsley pastries are really good too, as well as the simit, which is a sesame seed sort of bagel. And the desserts are also excellent. I've tried an apple walnut turnover and the baklava and both were delicious. You really can't go wrong with any of the food here! read more

We had a great breakfast of socuk and eggs, and menemen (plus homemade bread is toasted) at this lovely Turkish cafe. The latte and coffee are excellent.
