Has anybody ever had to get a replacement social security card for something? Is it not something that you look forward too. I went to this location, and got there about 10 minutes after they opened. I should have gone 30 minutes before they opened. The place was packed when I got there with about 50 people waiting. It took me an hour just for them to call my number. It turned out that, even if you call, and they say you have the correct paperwork, that you might not, as was the case when I went. When I got to the window, they said that when you call, the person that answers the phone sometimes gives out wrong information, and it used to happen all the time. I just went to save time on mailing paperwork back and forth, which might add up to weeks. So, I guess I will get the correct paperwork, and then next time get there really early. read more

So I don't think anyone really ever wants to go to the social security office. You need to go for something and you "adult" as they say. I wasn't looking forward to my visit, especially after reading some of the reviews. For my business I decided to make time to go in on a Tuesday about 9:30am. I filled out the appropriate forms ahead of time (get them online if possible). From the time I took a number to the time I was called to a window was about 7 minutes. The young lady that helped me was very friendly. She explained anything that I had a question on, and done in another 5 minutes. I was amazed! Perhaps my need was a simple one but it was a pleasant interaction. I didn't take any pictures to post, but the ones posted are pretty accurate. I came here for a new social security card since I recently got married. When you check-in for a number there is a form on the counter to fill out if you didn't print it out and do it online already. This place was packed, you have to grab a seat because they will not allow you to stand. The staff members were a little rude and disengaged. I was shocked that it only took me 30 minutes, I expected to wait longer. It's a great place to go if you like hanging out in a parking lot for 95 degree weather for half a day. I guess you could call and make an appointment, except they never pick up the phone and it is forwarded to other Social Security offices in other cities. I swear that this place is much worse than any DMV that I have ever been to. I provided all of the valid documents requested and was told I would be issued a receipt by mail in a few days(never happened) Then a rejection letter a month and a half later. It's really not that bad. I had to wait an hour when arriving around noon time, this is what I expected. You would have a shorter wait if you come when they first open. They could be more efficient as some clerks disappear for ten minutes between each person they serve. And if someone doesn't step up when their number is called, they really don't need to give them 10 minutes to show up. You snooze, you lose. The numbers announced on the speakers could be clearer and I'm sorry but when they make announcements in languages other than English it's just confusing at first. Speak American, the language Jesus spoke! The clerks are not that bad if you stick to the rules - sit down and wait for your turn. One guy went up to a window and said; can I ask a question? The clerk lady said; No you can't. Then made an announcement on the speakers saying, stop coming up asking questions. Bit rude, but if it cuts my wait time shorter then I'm all for a bit of rude soup. There isn't a lot of parking, so you May have to use the overflow parking lot a walk away. read more

A mixed review. #1 problem with this location is a dismal lack of parking. On the first attempt to go to this office with my elderly Mother (we had an appointment and arrived 30 minutes before our time) we found no parking spots available and a line of waiting persons that I guess was 40+ people long outside. There was a sign saying overflow parking was available at a nearby apartment complex. This was an unacceptable option with an elderly person and we left. On our 2nd attempt we made an appointment at opening time and got there 45 minutes in advance. There was parking available, and I brought a chair for Mom to use while in line. When they were ready to open the security officer allowed all of us with appointments to enter to building first. Once we had signed in the wait was perhaps 20 minutes before a very pleasant employee handled my Mom's situation. Raleigh office: * Has informed me that documents were needed and others in the office have said they were not needed * Has informed me there is a hold on benefits and others in that office have said there is not * I've asked for callbacks and the rep refuses to call but sends messages thru intermediaries * I've hand delivered documents and was told it would be given to the claim rep and told by others he never received them * Multiple instances of conflicting information / requirements has caused significant delay in progress / completion of this claims * This claim was initiated in January 2021 and of March 2023...no benefits have been received * The recording talks about a paperwork reduction act of 44 U.S.C. 3507, as amended by section 2 of the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995. - but everything is sent but USPS * I had a letter dated 2/13/23 delivered to me on 3/4/23. The postmark was 3/1/23 - a letter that require a signature * There is no sense of urgency * There's retaliation in the form of delayed responses (if they even respond) for frequent calls to the toll free number * I have called regarding a letter I received and been told "I don't see any such letter in the system" * I have called regarding phone appointment notifications that I have received and been told "I don't see any appointment so no one will call you." I changed my name ~2 months ago by mailing so many important documents to this SS office. I received back my new SS card almost immediately, but never received my documents back. I filed a missing mail report with the USPS, who promptly got back to me to let me know all of my documents were re delivered to the SS office and were signed for by one of their employees. This was ~2.5 weeks ago. I have called every single day since then to ask if I can please just have my documents back and I have been told that I would get a call back by the manager EVERY SINGLE TIME. I have yet to receive a call back or my documents. I'd consider just going to the office and asking, but according to other reviews that won't end well. This place is a complete joke. No parking, a line out the door, and rude employees. The lobby in this building isn't big enough so they force people to stand outside, no matter if it's 100 degrees and a torrential downpour. Once you finally get in the building, you're greeted by extremely rude employees. Then you wait some more until they shuffle you into another room where you are met with even more rude employees. The personal respect and service was not witnessed by me. We had an overpayment issue and went in one day to gain information on how to go forward. We were threatened with garnished wages and seized tax refunds.. the problem was we were sitting right there to resolve the issue, there was no need to threaten us. We left with no resolution, feeling completely vulnerable to the powerful gov't and more confused. We quickly gained a contact with the Charlotte branch and will work with them from now on. When you are made to feel like a guilty criminal instead of an hardworking American citizen, it concerns me because we really were powerless in the situation. Our accountant looked over the paperwork they used to charge us with $12000 + of overpayed benefits and found numerous mistakes as it was. Yikes! I went to process a name change. I expected a wait, so I got there about 30 minutes before the office opened on a middle-of-the-month Tuesday, and found a line of about 15 people already waiting outside the building. What I didn't expect is a tiny waiting area inside, which necessitates people standing outside the office, allowed in in groups of 5, even after it opens. Thank goodness I went on a cloudy day, or I would not have stayed to stand in the sun and heat. Plan or adjust your visit for good weather, or plan to suffer the elements! Once inside I was called surprisingly quickly, but helped by a rather slow and clumsy clerk. What should have been a 5-minute transaction took about 20, including the correction of an obvious typo he had made. It could have been worse, but it also could have been much better. read more

I don't have much to say about this place. Expect it to be no less different from your local DMV office. So everything applies from getting all the documents with you(even though you thought you won't need it) to getting there early before the office opens. Check their office timings before you go. They have different timings on certain days. Parking is a pain. They do have overflow parking in the apartment complex next door but it isn't many. I have been here twice and I have found the officers to be cordial and helpful in getting you the right information. And the queue does move quick. Bottomline: Get all the documents you need(double check it) and reach there as early as you can. read more

Management team is terrible. First they promised to take quick action on my IRMA life-changing event claim in April 2017. Then, In July 2017, after making me wait 90 minutes to talk with someone, one of their personnel (a nice caring guy by the way), told me that their team had "lost" my paperwork and the supervisor would call me the next day on my mobile phone. They didn't follow up on that either. I recommend to everyone that you ask for the name of the person serving you, and his/her supervisor. I have compassion on people that work in these places. However, the holier-than-thou attitude I witnessed from the guards was not needed. My family and I couldn't find seats that were together (since we had younger children with us). We decided that we'd stand in the back and out of the way and let the older people sit considering it was a very crowded day. But we were confronted by the "security guard" and we went back and forth on why we couldn't sit. He kept saying there were open seats, but we simply couldn't separate from our children. Only at the end of the discussion did he mention that that sitting is required. Maybe you should have led with that, buddy. When we were finally told that sitting was required, he said "yeah that's why I was pointing out the seats, pal." How could we have known that if you just now brought it up? It isn't a big deal, but next time that guard should apply logic to his discussions. Save the attitude for people that are actually causing trouble, not for a family that couldn't sit. This is really 4 or 5 for the people working there, and 2 for the inconvenience, averaged out to a 3. I got there at 9 am on a Tuesday and line was about 1/4 way around the building - yes, you may have to park in the apartments next door but it's close. Once inside, there's a big waiting room but it was well organized. There's a guard ushering people here and there, and a person manning the check-in kiosk. Depending on what you are there for, you'll get a ticket from one of several queues ("F234", "B107"). The "Now Serving" for each queue is prominently displayed on a big screen and the numbers are called out clearly. There are also quite a few service windows, so you can divide the queue by 7 or so. If you just need a replacement card or info change, your line will move faster. I was there maybe an hour and 15 minutes total. Bring a book and chill out and you'll be fine. Do *not* forget to bring multiple IDs, etc, and fill out any forms before you go. The lady guard may seem to be a bit curt but she's got a high-stress job and I saw her entertaining a bored kid. Worst customer service I've ever experienced. The lady on the phone ms Solomon literally hung up on me while I was asking a question because she didn't want to take the time and look up my answer. She said "call back when you find out if your wife did or did not come to this particular office" click. I was unsure which of two names my adopted son had on his social security application, and she said "oh, so now you're changing his name, sir." I listened to him, took some notes and left. When I got home decided to call the office, I spoke with Ms. Solomon. She was very helpful in explaining my retirement options. The appointment I made for the SS office in Raleigh, NC weeks ago ended up being torturous Thursday, 28 April, 2016. Mrs. Massey [on the Blue Hall] could ~not~ have been much ruder. Insolent. Discourteous. Unhelpful+++. From the first words out of her mouth to the last ones, she acted, as if she were doing me a favor just talking to me. Began by giving me a lot of flack b/c I HAD made an appointment. Said I could have just walked in. I had genuine questions and wanted/needed honest, complete answers about initiating SS. Went to get a replacement card for my daughter on Tuesday. They told me I didn't have the correct documents. So I got the documents they told me to get and went back today (Thursday). They told me again that I didn't have the correct documents again. Even though I brought exactly what they told me to bring Tuesday. They also said today that the documents needed to be sealed. Which they did not tell me Tuesday. Then the supervisor told me that my daughters school would know what I need. And That on Tuesday they were just telling me generalizations. However my daughters school is on spring break. I had my daughter with me at both visits and 2 original birth certificates. I was pretty angry about the situation. I mean come on! What are all the hoops for anyway? And why the heck would they give me generalizations of what was really needed? During our long wait (both days) Two different people told me that they had to come back as well.
