The did not comply with finishing the process of my documents at the time of my visit and am still waiting for benefits that belong to me since I'm still disabled. I expressed the hardship and 12 days later I still have no response to my completed package. Bylaw they cannot withhold payments. I'm on 60 days no payment after waiting 45 days for an appointment . Disabled with a minor at home. At arrival you get disrespected treated like a criminal and attempted to be humiliated by Security guard pictured . Complete out of line character and her demeanor towards the public. She and past guards have you wait outside with disregard to weather conditions or your disability. I recently took pictures of empty lobby seats able to accommodate guard had outside in the heat standing . The appointment line to wait instruction into the building is in the sun. I moved to the shade being that it was only 2 of us out there waiting to get into building and the guard reprimanded me for not standing in the sun appointment line, made me walk to the appointment line just to be immediately called up to be served. Likely won't get in unless you show up at 6-7am, this place opens at 9 am but it's so packed with people you can't even get in if you show up after they open. Obviously they need more officers or staff or a whole other office to open because this is madness. After waiting for 3 hours to get in you'll still have another 2-3 hour wait. We all know the wait is horrible and parking sucks but that isn't entirely the employee's fault. What I will complain about is that the employee's who call out numbers need to speak UP and clearly. They will call the number ONCE and if you miss it, you miss it. That really annoyed me because the screen wouldn't even update the current number called. Its such an easy part of their task and they need to do it right. Especially with how many elderly go, I'm sure they won't catch it if they say it once and mumbled. Depends on whether you have an appointment. If you do, it's a very smooth snd fast experience ( except the parking situation though, it can be hard to find a spot). If you walk in , then no, I would not recommend - you have a 20% chance of getting in in my opiion, you'll just waste your time. read more

This SSA office needs to join the 22nd century. Service is slow, procedures unexplained, and employees robotic-like. Signs indicated that service was from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Doors opened at 8:20 a.m. The employee who opened them said there should be 2 lines -- one for folks with an appointment and one for those without one. Why wasn't there a sign indicating that? I could go on; suffice it to say a little customer-friendly approach would go a long way to improving our experience. read more

I made an appointment for 11:40am. When I checked in after waiting for almost an hour it was clear I was just added I not the queue of 50+ people waiting in the waiting room. There is no receptionist or staff in the waiting area aside from the door security guard. I've been to the San Marcos office with an appointment before and was in and out with in 15 minutes. My experience at the SS office in Chula Vista was great. Alejandra was the representative that helped me, and I was very pleased with her thoroughness and knowledge. She was very professional and personable and answered all my questions. I made an appointment and I was done and out the door in 1 hour. Bad wait times. Not called in order. Un organized. Can't make appointment ahead of time.

They have employees working go there whom are rude screening phone calls and hanging up the phones without assisting. I have been there twice within a week because someone kept suspending my SSI benefits without notifying me. The individual who called my number J469 was rude from the beginning telling me, I threw something when he asked for my ID I put in on the counter where it slid because the surface was smooth. He wouldn't let me filling explain the situation without telling me to let him talk he had zero patience and probably has an issue with women. He eventually told me to go wait for a supervisor in the lobby disregarding, I had an appointment for a reason. I was in severe pain coming there to begin with and not being assisted only added insult to injury. The security guards are rude as well. I am hard of hearing and was using my phone on speaker and both the male and female to me to take my phone off speaker which, I feel is discrimination because, I am hard of hearing. They don't call you for your appointment without making you wait between 45 minutes -2:30hours the lines are always out of the door. This place needs to be investigated due to whom they have working there. Playing with one's SSI benefits is not okay. Suspending one's SSI because you claim you needed proof of address but yet sending my review paperwork to my current address but sending my SSI benefits were being suspended letter to an old address so that, I wouldn't be made aware is diobolical and I believe someone is personally going into my account doing this because it has been too many instances. read more

I'm reading everybody's review and clearly you didn't pay attention to what's going on here because although you do have to wait at times there's a reason for their madness okay it's it's clearly organized I don't know what you guys are talking about you have to pay attention to what they're doing you know the workers do have to go home at a certain time so if they let everybody in the office at once or whenever till it's full then they're never going to get out of there so they're letting three people in per one person that comes out and that's fine that's understandable don't you guys think who wants to be in a room full of all kinds of people breathing on you anyways the numbers are out of order they're called out of order not because they're disorganized or they don't know what they're doing but because everybody's there for different reason so you put your reason why you're there in the little machine when you walk in with your social security number and they give you your number and at that point of time they're going to call whoever they want to call at that certain subject that they need to work with you with certain workers are there for your benefits some are there for documents and some are there for whatever so that's why it's like that but I think it's fine I went there three days in 2 weeks and honestly I went in at maybe 2:00 2:30 and I was in by 4:00 and I was out of there by 4:15 it was in a big deal there was one day that I got there at 3:00 and of course I had to go home because the door was shut on me but that was an hour I had to wait in line outside and there was too many people there but you can just look at the people and know if you're going to be able to get in or not if the lines too long and it's getting close to 4:00 then call it another day but all you guys are really negative about this nobody likes to wait I know that but everybody was very nice to me yeah there was one lady who had a ugly face that look like she wanted to fight me too but you know nobody knows what everybody's going through maybe she just looks like that she was fine once I talked to her that the only problem I had was the a****** guy I don't know what his name was but he made me cry because he's in in considerate he didn't take the time to tell me who started my application and he lied to me telling me that it wasn't in the computer which I know it was a lie the second time right the third time I came back because the lady told me exactly who started my application give me her name my number so I know the guy was lying he probably just didn't want to work but he was miserable himself other than that that's the only problem I had there so you guys have to pay attention to what's going on and how the system works then you'll understand it don't be so meann read more

So slow. Got here 40 minutes before closing on Friday afternoon thinking it was plenty of time. There was a long line out the door that inched along. By 3:59 I made it to the front of the line. Just then they came out and told me and everyone in line behind me there were closed to come back next week. I pleaded to wait one more minute as I had to take the afternoon off work. I was not let inside and had to wait about an hour outside and then inside waited about two hours until they called my number.

I am truly trying to understand why in the world it would take 3 1/2 hours on a Tuesday morning to complete a ten minute transaction. First of all only 5 windows out of 25 windows were open. The social security office opened at 9 am and by 9:45 am windows were already closing. Each window would help one or two people then close, at one point there was only one window open. Ridiculous. Not hard to figure out that this office is an employee controlled atmosphere just dragging their feet taking their sweet time. There are a lot of elderly and disabled people waiting to be seen and the seating is awful, not people friendly at all. this location need's management and supervision. read more

Sweet merciful crap. I went to this office several months ago to do the paperwork to change my adopted daughter's name and SS# (a process I had already done twice for my other adopted kids.) I kid you not. The lady behind the plexiglass decided from the second she saw me she wasn't going to help me. She cut me off every time I started talking. She rejected every document I handed her, including original, signed and sealed court documents. She ignored every medical record and social services paper I gave her. I was shaking with rage when I walked out having wasted an hour and a half of my life. Fortunately, when I was able to secure more documentation from the county, I returned ready to do battle with the harpy I'd encountered earlier. Planning to slap documents onto the plexiglass divider since I couldn't rub them in her face. But I was helped by a kind gentleman who was extremely cordial and professional. So it appears your experience at the social security office will depend entirely on the lottery of which employee pulls your number. This is my second experience with them and both have been terrible. I'm so frustrated with how difficult they make something as simple as a name change. Due to covid they are not allowing in-person applications for name change so TWICE now I've had to mail documents and TWICE they rejected my application. I submitted everything they asked for on their website, and they make you submit all original documentation including a driver's license. So they expect you to drive around without a license for several weeks. Every time they reject me and provide a list of things I need to include, I go and do it and then they reject me AGAIN and add NEW hoops to jump through they never mentioned before. It should not be this hard to change a last name. And it takes them 5 weeks to reject my application when I followed every instruction to a T? Your employees need to get it together! These are trying times and your ill-trained employees are NOT making it easy!!! read more

Alejandra from this office left me a voice mail message saying they need for me to come to this office and bring my passport for additional info. Got there waited in line for 1.5 hours and finally met with a guy informing me that they also needed a copy of my original certificate. This was not disclosed on the message. After I was seen for 2 minutes, I tried to call this office and was on hold and hung up on 3 times. Finally was able to speak with a Miss Lopez who obviously from the get go was not in a good mood to service anyone. After explaining to her if there was any other type of document besides a birth certificate as I had lost mine and didn't even know where to begin trying to obtain one as I was born out of the country. She said, I don't know what to tell u and was trying to dismiss me as fast as she could. Her tone and attitude throughout this short convo is unacceptable. Time to get another job lady! First of all the place is too small for the services they provide, there is only 4 windows open out of 8. The place is crowded, a bunch of seniors tired making line. There is no parking because there's only like very few spaces they have.The Security guard is careless, won't help, gets annoyed easily and a bit racist. Some situation happen with the Bathroom that a lady was getting in the bathroom while another one was drying her hands and they were just being friendly joking for a second so the situation wont be awkward as of the security guard right away said "Hey,hey hey . You guys know better. You're in California" Like WTH is that supposed to mean?. There was also this really quiet lady with an adorable baby and obviously most of us were there for 2 hours already waiting for our turn obviously the baby was getting annoyed and she started getting fuzzy. You can tell she was sleepy and the security guard went to the lady and was like "Whats wrong with her? Why is she crying? What are you here for? " Just making her feel uncomfortable, he was just rude to my taste. I do not understand the whole getting your name thing when you already got a ticket it's just a waste of time an hour or so line instead of just getting to the case. When i got up there the lady checked my documents and said something was wrong with a document blah blah blah , she didn't make sense on what she was telling me. Tried to explain to her on how she is wrong and she is just like " We do this all the time." Apparently she had no idea on what she was doing and just made me wait there 3 hours for nothing. I ended up going to Downtown that same day and they had an office for what i needed no lines just people waiting for their number to be called. The security guard was helpful and nice I wasn't there for 30 min. when my number was called. I had no problems with my documents, everything was fast. and I was out quick. Downtown was organized & professional as opposed to Chula Vista. People, to avoid wasting your time just head to Downtown, you'll thank me later. read more

Someone needs to go there and teach the manager there how to organize an office in a way that helps the people they serve. There is about 12 parking spots here, and 25 people on line at any point in time. All the other parking spots are reserved for employees. Everyone, including the people with appointments have to make a line just to request a ticket from their computer. As the other reviewer said, the disabled and elderly also must stand in line to get the ticket. It takes anywhere between 1 and 2 hours to get helped, most of the time you will be standing in line. Go somewhere else if you can. The 2 stars is because the employees are nice and knowledgeable. read more

I sat here for two hours waiting, no sign saying the service was not provided, no warning, no damn idea until I finally got my number called and the representative could have cared less not even a sorry. So much waste, sat and watched a lazy worker just sit at the window not calling anyone, and where do they go to all the time, how many breaks do you need in a day. If all you need are card services (new, replacement, name change, etc.) don't bother coming to this location. Save your time and go to the downtown location on Ash Street, which has a separate center dedicated to card services only. There is another location in El Cajon that has a card services center as well. I got there 20 minutes before opening on a Monday and it looked like there were almost 100 people in line (predominantly Mexican - there's a reason for mentioning that). At least we were in shade. At 9:00 am the line moved fairly quickly, or so I thought. You're supposed to obtain a number from a machine first but a line monitor ushered people past the machine to wait to get called at the front of the line. A (white) guy that was a few people behind me was there for a replacement card - somehow he was able to use the machine to obtain a number. When I noticed this, I turned to ask the line monitor about getting a number. She quickly asked why I was there (name change), and after a quick look in the direction of the machine, said wait to get to the front of the line. Window 1 called out, "Next person in line!" I approached and the lady asked if I had a number. When I said no, she looked inconvenienced and began to put me in the system (to then give me a number), asking questions about why I was there. After telling her I was there for a name change, she asked for my zip code. I live in Los Angeles but was in San Diego for the day to visit my mom, and she gave me the most suspicious look when I told her. (I later learned they have to ask why you're in the area when mailing a card outside of the region... she could have explained that instead of looking accusatory.) After all that, she then told me there were 2 other SS offices that offer card services only, handing me a map with the locations. Otherwise my wait would be an hour and a half. I got out of there and went downtown. Going back to the machines - did they assume the white guy would know how to use it quickly, but assumed the other brown skinned people would take too long? I guess I should be thankful I bypassed the machine and the staff eventually told me about the other office, but it left an unfavorable impression of the office as a whole. So again, don't bother coming here for card services. It took me 50 minutes to go through all that - the same amount of time it took me downtown to feed the meter, walk to the office, get a number (which a security officer quickly went through so I could enter my information), be seen, and walk back to my car to leave. read more

The service here was very good. The person at the window was very helpful and friendly. The only drawback for this place is the parking. Two of my last three visits here the parking lot was packed! Had to park in the neighborhood which wasn't too bad at all. read more

My client had a horrific time trying to apply for her Medicare Part B at Chula Vista SSA 626 L St. After 3 visit, no parking, 2 hour wait to see a supervisor. Mrs. Gonzalez the supervisor on the the 3rd visit was to call my client and she never got a call and still no proof of applying for Part B. On the 2nd visit when she asked the rep what am I suppose to do without medical insurance because she was losing her employer group coverage end of the month, they told her don't get sick...that's a shame! If you need service, you may want to visit a different office. They really need training! read more

They apparently don't do card replacements anymore, but that's not noted in a noticeable place. I was there early, before it opened, to get done quicker. I didn't see the sign, until I was closer to the entrance, when they started to let people in. They should have more than one sign posted on the building. They made note of other offices, which is great, but they didn't have the right address for National City. I went to the address to find a building up for lease and a small sign on the door that they've moved. The C.V. office, should've had the address updated on their sign. I have come to expect when I go to a government office long lines and workers that don't much care about you. One of two proved true. There was long lines. However I was pleasantly surprised to have a pleasant young lady I think her name was Navarro. I really felt like she cared about my problem and showed a real personal interest in me. I felt like she was treating me as if I were her father or family. How unusual to find a government worker with heart. She also went out of her way and gave an extraordinary effort to resolve my problem. Thank you for finding someone like her. She deserves much commendation. She restores in me that even though you may be overworked and understaffed, you can still show real caring in the problems of others. read more

I am trying help a client handle a matter. He has paid a debt in full and they are giving him the run around and STILL charging him. So I call the public number. The option to "speak to someone" indicates it is a 1 hour wait. RIDICULOUS!! I don't have much hope that a letter will get any response but I have no choice but to resort to that as I don't have time to spend 3 hours of my life in this office.
