Not allowed to take any photos of the base or the ships or anything sorry about that it's considered be top-secret so damn top-secret why can everybody see the fence or something they can tell you about it though they are there by five or six restaurants in that place that are McDonald's, Subway, Boules bagel sandwich shop ,pizza Chinese food joint Starbucks coffee house. These are just the restaurant they'll have a movie theater there but you can't get on the base unless you're military or a contractor that's all it is is really that top-secret specially if you work on the base.

After a long night time drive from the Bay Area to Naval Base San Diego I was exhausted. I downed some coffee to help keep both feet planted on the ground due to lack of sleep. Anyhow the family was super excited when my son's ship pulled in for the homecoming as were other families and loved ones. We had not seen him for about six months... We all greeted him and got a tour of the LPD ship which was really awesome! My son calls this place home and for us it was such a treat to be here! "NIL FATO RELINQUEMUS", translated in English as "WE LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE" Hooyah!...

Relatively large NEX exchange here loaded to the brim with Filipino ladies buying cosmetics. Decent souvenir selection inside. Supposedly a new commissary has opened - as large as a Costco. I have not checked that out. Only been on the dry side of this base. Perhaps some day I will make it across Harbor Dr to the wet side.

Great experience. Kind of boring. All the volunteers were very nice. Not too pricey. Could be more interactive.

Ask the Community - Naval Base San Diego

My son is on a Navy ship coming back to San Diego do you know what times the ships come in I'm from out of town and I wanted to come surprise him. Is there anyone I can call?

no they don't it considered retile a top-secret or time I open ships Gomez why is he coming in otherwise I have no idea anything about that

As a civilian, can anyone recommend any locations to view the naval ships in the harbor? Years ago, ships had open houses where civies could get a tour from the sailors. Was able to tour the Cowpens and Belleau Wood at one point. Thanks

I know that if you go on the harbor cruise ships you can see the ships . but if you want to take an actual tour of the ships I have no idea what phone number to call or what… Read more

It has been a 5-star experience, from last week and this morning. I would like to give special recognition to a particular staff that assisted us on both occasions. On both times, we must have picked her brain for a good hour. I apologize for not remembering her official title. Eva has been most helpful and patient through out our quit claim process. She kept things positive and was always reassuring. As she lead the way in keeping us on track and then letting us know what's to be expected, I knew my nerves would be much calmer. Documents and forms (quit claims), if not filled out properly, can cause major issues in the long run. Our fear in filling, filing and getting notarized and then finding out parts/all of the steps was missed. Who wants to keep back-tracking on missed stuff and correcting information....definitely not a good plan. I feel good about today and lleaving the county building on a good note. Elderlies went through theirs recently, and it broke my heart to see how difficult it was made for them. Instead of asking simple, considerate questions suitable for seniors, the officer gave them some of the hardest questions possible -- as if forgetting they are already in their late years and struggling with memory. Not everyone gets the same treatment. Some officers are kind, patient, and truly human -- while others are cold, robotic, and lack basic empathy. It's unfair that outcomes depend purely on luck -- on whether you get the compassionate officer or the heartless one. These are elderly people who already have memory issues. The fact that they still try -- and even pay -- to apply for U.S. citizenship should already show their dedication and effort. The least they deserve is patience, respect, and understanding -- not interrogation-level questioning that leaves them anxious, confused, and ashamed. Give OLD PEOPLE some grace. Their minds and memories are not the same as younger applicants. Show humanity. Show compassion. Remember that you are speaking to someone's mother, father, or grandparent -- not just another case number. USCIS needs to retrain officers to handle senior applicants with care. The process should be about dignity, not intimidation. Treating people with kindness and empathy costs nothing -- but it means everything to families like ours.
