Get there at like 0700AM and wait for them to open at 0800. Go in and up the ELEVATOR to the third floor. It's all the way in the back and there will likely be a line forming and winding the corner. You walk in and then check in on a kiosk. Then you take a seat in a small room with not enough space for everyone waiting. They have 3 people up front and sometimes a few working in a back office. They get through as much as possible, as they are very busy. Staff isn't overtly friendly, but that's because people come in there and are rude to them. If you show them some kindness, they will be kind. Besides security- he was really grumpy for some reason. It's annoying that calling is not an alternative. You call at 0800 and somehow they have already "met the max amount of calls for that day". Giving many people no choice but to come in person. Medium experience. Bothered that I had to go in while injured. Don't want to go back unless I have to. read more

What's the use of having EDD offices if everything just ends up in Sacramento anyway? Total waste of time coming here. The staff can't really help, and the one who assisted me clearly had no idea what to do. People come to EDD already going through serious hardship -- losing jobs, caring for family, struggling financially -- and instead of getting help, we get more stress and confusion. It's heartbreaking. EDD is supposed to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. If EDD really wants good reviews and public trust, they need to train their staff properly and give local offices the power to actually help people, not just pass the blame to Sacramento. read more

They NEVER answer the phone number provided by EDD website. Arrived at office at 11:30am. TINY room that fits maybe 25 people literally crammed in there. Three windows with one being the check-in window and only two to assist people. Apparently arriving at 11:30am is too late in the day to be able to speak with someone face to face and have them look at paperwork. When I checked in, the guy had me give them my cell phone number and told me that someone "should" call me back this afternoon. I asked if I needed to wait there and the guy shrugged his shoulders and said, "if you want to wait - they should call you this afternoon." The security guard outside the room was more helpful - he explained it was "too late in the day" to be able to see someone in person and we would only receive a call back after checking in. Ridiculous. So inefficient. Why don't they hire more people? Anyone who advocates for government-run healthcare should reconsider. The website is horrible. You can't get ahold of anyone by phone. And apparently trying to speak with someone in person is also difficult. Another man there said he had waited so far two hours to speak with someone. If this were a business, I'd never go back, but unfortunately with Government, there are no other choices. read more

Giving them 2 stars because the security guy was great but everyone else seemed very rude today. I asked the woman helping me if I am self-employed as a respite worker through a financial management service and she said, "It's up to you decide if you are self-employed or not. We can not decide that for you." I said, "OK, I guess I'll Google it then because I don't know." And then I Googled it when I got home. Overheard another customer being told to look up places that could help them because they weren't going to look those places up for them...they would only give a simple search term. I was tempted to intervene because I had a specific answer for them but the timing was inappropriate. Another person was accused of wasting everyone's time because they are not there to help with technological issues. The customers on the receiving end were being more professional than the professionals who worked there. I'm sure it is a stressful job, but I waited 3 hours for my 2 simple questions to elicit so much judgment for not being able to figure them out on my own. The unemployment office is much friendlier but can only help so much (which is not very much) with Disability claims. I just feel like it is cruel to talk down to people who likely commuted long distances than waited several hours to ask their question. If we knew who else to go to, then I don't think any of us would go here anymore. read more

I've been to the office several times recently, and it has been less painful than anticipated. Going through disability insurance can be VERY stressful and overwhelming. The simple fact that you need to come here, or deal with EDD in general, likely means you're facing some difficult times, and for that I say, "I hope whatever you're going through gets better, and it will. Although it's scary, and feels like the odds are stacked against you, you will get through this. Ask questions, follow through, and know I'm rooting for you!". My best advice is to show up early, head to suite #300, and wait in line. They run a pretty tight ship in the office (no drinks, I believe no pics and definitely no video), but it's all in effort to get you in and out as soon as possible. Don't bother wasting your time on the phone waiting for the State Disability Office (the 800 number attached to this business does not connect you to the local office at this address), instead come here first-thing in the morning and you should find some relief. Thank you to the workers here! I know you're going through a tough time, but I ask that you please try to be considerate of the workers here; by no fault of their own, they are often the targets of understandable frustration caused by an imperfect system. I too get frustrated when dealing with systematic bureaucracy, but when I do, I do my best to vocalize to the reps that my displeasure and frustration is not aimed at them, but the system itself. Been here twice within the last 3 months. Trying to call the 800 number is absolutely useless no matter what time you call they've already reached max people waiting in line. Customer service in the office is nice. They do what they can. They have limited access to paid family leave info but can have someone call you. Both times I was in and out in less than an hour. The security guards are not nice by any means. Pretty sure they don't like their jobs so be warned no drinks or food allowed and if you get a call you cannot simply step into the hallway they want you to go the first floor lobby if not they'll yell at you. (This did not happen to me but I witnessed it happen to another lady that was waiting). read more

Long wait, couldn't answer simple questions. The majority of people there are people that have been having problems with EDD, timely processing of payments, fixing errors EDD made, not paying enough etc. I went in because I had some questions on why my information wasn't matching their records, nope could not get a straight answer and was told in person my records did match what they had in the computer. Went in with my application ready to file it in person, nope they mail it to Sacramento. Complete was of time and just another buearacracy that takes money from my check every week like clockwork but can't provide me with the service I paid for. read more

They have some great people working at the disability office, the issue is they need a bigger office. They are understaffed and it would be much better stress wise on the employees and customers/disabled with more help. They did open 1 more window but they need about 3-5 more to make it efficient. The employees do their best but you can tell they can get overwhelmed. They are very nice but it needs to be more efficient on both sides. read more

Im sorry to those who gotta go here, My disability aquiantence and I went in. The accessibility glass heavy doors were tough independently. Could not figure out if there was a button. Theres a elevator and stairs easy to access straight from the front doors. There was a security gaurd guiding people into the waiting room and check in on third floor. Kept telling people to move forward, it is crowded, stuffy, and lots of people sitting. Two short counters for check in and a tall one. No one can wait in hallways, security gaurd said we could wait in car and some did but then eventually came in to talk to check in people who pretty much said not to, when they announced they had called their names multiple times. And to go wait again. The check in people are not the nicest, and it may take a hour till you are seen or called. Someone took a counter for like thirty minutes. Its slow. Bland. Cramped. read more

The good: People working there genuinely seemed they are trying to help. The bad: It was a waste of time. The experience: I submitted my PFL application online and I confirmed over the phone that my application was received and pending processing on 1/13. I wanted to go in-person to see if it can be processed in person since it's been a while. I got there 10 min before it opened and there was already a line of approx 20 people. I was able to get checked in and received a ticket number, #627, 15 minutes after it opened. The front desk person asks you for your cell number so you can get notified when you're next. Once I gave her my cell number, I asked for my number to be repeated to confirm it was noted correctly and it was. All the seats inside were taken. The security guard did not allow people to wait in the hallway and asked folks to wait outside. I took a 45 min stroll outside and never received a text. I went inside to check my position in the queue. The digital display showing the queue position showed "0" so that was not helpful. A guy from inside the office yelled "number 640" and that's when I found out my number was already called. I went to the front desk to bring the issue of not being notified over text and if I can be helped next. The lady apologized and was confused as to why the status of my visit was marked "done" on her end even though I was never helped. She directed me to the guy yelling out the numbers and he took me in immediately. He confirmed for me that my application was received and being processed. I asked if anything can be done to expedite it since it's been a while and he told me all I can do is wait. He told me he could not do anything and to just wait and check online and that I should receive an update this week. I asked what to do if I don't hear anything by this week to which he responds "sorry all you can do is wait and be patient". So that's that: an hour and a half I'll never get back. I was denied PFL for my new born. The phone agents told me to get bent. And I was turned away at the door for assistance.

I had no issue at all at this office. They actually opened earlier than advertised. I was 3rd in line and in and out within 10min. I went on a Monday 1st thing in the morning. As long as you have required paperwork you should have no issues. The representative that helped was also very nice and answered all my questions. I was paid my back pay the following day. Now if I had to give a review for EDD/DISABILITY for their 1-800 #, it would definitely be zero stars! Absolutely ridiculous! I definitely suggest going directly to the office. Calif EDD is about as solid, as the male medical problem, that has one less D in it. I've been paying Calif taxes and into the SDI system for 50 yrs. I've used benefits once during that time (6 months unemployment in 1985). I've been waiting 2-1/2 months for my first FMLA check. I've depleted my rainy day funds and have returned to work. I was warned by the staff at the Lightwave Ave location, to expect significant delays. My guess is that Calif is scrutinizing claims very carefully, after being defrauded for millions during the pandemic. The staff at this location were nice enough, but they told me there are major limitations on how much they can accomplish. Having experienced government bureaucracy first hand, during my military service, the ineptitude of this state agency is next level. I will report to the office tomorrow for my 4th visit, since as others have reported, EDD phone service is nonexistent. Our state is a train wreck. read more

I've called the state number 5+ times and I'm usually greeted with "too many calls to help you - goodbye". I decided to just go in since this location was so close. I came in at 3pm and I was seen around 3:30 after ten-ish people were in front of me and 3 people manning the desks. I was definitely helped but will need to go back in and chill in this random room in this unassuming building because of bureaucratic nonsense. At least it's close! read more

(bring copies of your documents (fed express office off "h" st chula vista is great for copies from your phone, ect) come early. have to give gratitude to monica who helped me when i wasnt n paid and not able to get it corrected on line. I submitted all my paperwork for disability on July 25th. I had my surgery on July 31. It's now September 2nd and I still have not been paid. I have called 5+ times a day every day since August 14th. I have submitted two requests for an update on my payment, and haven't received one. They say it takes a maximum of 3 weeks to receive a payment. It has been 35 days without a payment. I have a life I need to live and I cannot do it without money. It's absolutely unacceptable to have 0 support from the state disability office. read more

After 4 weeks of unnecessary back and forth with the phone agents, when you can actually get through, I decided to just brave the storm and go into the office. I was in and out in less than 45 minutes. The staff there were friendly, helpful, and resolved my issue within 5 minutes. I suggest no matter what, getting your claim started/info uploaded online first, so that you can helped faster and going into the office if you can't get through by phone or need additional assistance. read more

Friday 6/21/24 1:00pm- Waited in line with about 15 people ahead of me. The line moved fast. Once you get to the window you take a number and sit. I waited for about 50 minutes. In total I was in and out in 1 hour. Monday 6/24/24 1:00pm- No line. In and out in 30 minutes. Both times the people who assisted me were very patient and helpful. They were able to quickly resolve my issue once I was helped and I was paid within 24 hours. Tips: Sign up for direct deposit online to get paid fast. Parking is easily available right in front of the building. Office is on the 3rd floor. No food or drinks. No phone calls. Trade your I.D. for the restroom key. read more

Very good experience I only had to wait 10 to 15 minutes. Of course I did arrive about 20 minutes before they opened and I was the third person in line. Spoke to the person at the window for about five minutes and got all the information I needed the individual was very helpful and kind. by the time I left at eight thirtyish the waiting room was full, so definitely recommend getting there as early as you can preferably before they open. read more

Our government has endless ways of taking our money however giving us our money we paid into - rude and so many excuses...they delay benefits don't adhere to no 7-14 day window. We've been waiting for two months , do they care you have no money for rent, groceries, gas, electricity... ABSOLUTELY NOT! Why do we have outdated equipment in our most needed government organization? Our politicians sitting in office don't miss a check or health benefits because of tax payers. Sitting in waiting room for my number to be call all of the ladies taking care of others were nice as well. Just looking and hearing the reactions from the individuals they were talking care of. It's located on the 3rd floor, suite 300. You write your name down on the sheet and the security ppl give you a ticket number. I've never had an issue with getting paid until now, so this was my first visit here. Got there at 10:30am on a Thursday and waited about an hour and 20 min before my name was called. Took the lady about 5 min to resolve my pending claim. Told me that I'd get paid the next day or on Monday. I ended up get paid that evening. read more

I've been off work since 9/11 and applied for disability. It is now 11/10, but I still have not gotten paid. I've now gotten 3 eye surgeries per my Dr. I can't go back to work. All my bills are backed up, and they are about to shut my sdge off. Barely any food in the house. I called the 800 every day but can not get through to anyone. I'm not sure if I'm gonna get paid or what going on. All I know is that due to my surgeries, I can not work. I have to deal with the pain from the surgeries and also the stress from my bills piling up on me. I don't even know how to explain all this to my son, especially with the food situation. I've been to the office twice already and they are all really nice there but couldn't help me. I will go in again on Tuesday to talk to them again. There is no point in calling.
