They do not honor your appointment time, it's more like you're on a priority list but they'll get to you when they get to you. So honestly you don't really need an appointment, could walk in & even be seen faster than someone with an appointment. But I'm sure if we didn't make it on time for when they call on us it's a problem, but whenever they are to blame, it's just "understaffed" or "too busy" "sorry". Located over near the office with in the midst of the city you can catch the many busses which take you over to the city of Chula Vista Having to go to the Social Security office to conduct business getting a verification of benefits that was for other city office checking i. At the kiosk entering you so isl and the type of business the process took about 30mi items from when I checked in customer service at the office is the best with security that makes sure rules are followed. The new social security is one that had been remodeled from the past building to one that can help so many. Order the card online. If you have to id verify in person, Make the appointment online for ss card replacement. If you cold crash the line, they'll make you make an appointment anyway. Plus, the appointment itself is just to get the card mailed to you in 2 weeks, no in person print out. Staff is nice if you meet them halfway and have your paperwork in order. The staff are friendly nice and helpful. Depending what you are here for after clearing security you either bank left or bank right. There's a kiosk check in that prints out your ticket. I find it so inconvenient how nobody was in the front helping out and just a security guard telling people to move behind the yellow line. There was a QR code for people without an appointment and I did that. I was waiting in line with a bunch of people behind me that somehow did not sign in because nobody told them to do so. 15 minutes later he asked the rest of the people in line if they have the QR code and they never actually signed in. Next thing you know they asked them to sign in INSIDE the building and wait in the lobby. I've been standing here for more than an hour without a seat m, so i asked the security guard if i could also wait in the lobby. He said it's only for the people who signed in inside which is ridiculous because if i had known, i would've signed in and waited inside as well. this place needs better staff to assist people rather than a security guard telling people to go behind the line and not checking on people. If you need to drop off paperwork they have special hours, all you have to do it print the documents from the social security webpage and submit them with the required documents at a specific time (you'll have to call to find out what hours). I had a 330pm appt for a name change application. We were there in line on time. Doors were closed and locked and we were told to stay outside and wait to be called. 2 people got called and it was already 345pm so I asked again they said there's no sign in but wait to be called. Patiently waited til 420pm when the guard told me that they did call for me and didn't respond. He said he had vouched for us that we we were waiting outside patiently for 50min but we can't even complain cause we can't get a name and that they were either going home or working from home. ***zero rating *** went there for my new born baby's SS card. tried to do the QR code and it did not work so ask the guard about it and they said go to the line so I lined up. got my ticket but then people behind me got their QR code appointment to work. waited for 4 hrs and the people behind me got in first hrs before me. I give the birth certificate, medical record( birth verification letter) with MD sign in pen, and discharge paperwork and the representative said its wrong and they can't accept it but thats what the hospital give me. they expect a new born baby to have an ID. with no SS card. with the same paperwork i was able to get my son SS card...the hospital did the application for me and i just got it to mail. so this people that work here don't know what they're doing??????? read more

My review is based on the conversation I just had. Although I don't know the woman's name, she was helpful and very honest. Here are the details in case anyone else is needing these same services: -I recently got married and my call was to inquire about changing my name to my married name. -To change your name, it needs to be done in person OR by mail. -They are not doing in-office/in-person appointments, so this would have to be done by mail. -To change a name, required documents are: 1) Form SS-5, Application for a Social Security Card, 2) Original marriage certificate, and 3) Original form of identification, like a driver's license. -Documents are to be MAILED. Nope, I won't be mailing my original driver's license. LOL The woman said that unless this is an urgent request, she recommends waiting until the offices open up again to take care of this transaction, as they are losing more documents than they are receiving. :( Lastly, they don't know when offices will be opening back up. It's all good. We wanted to get married, and although we had to postpone the big wedding and reception, we at least were able to have a civil ceremony where I got to marry my husband, the love of my life. They are very organized. They asked me to bring a copy of my documents and so I did. Then they call me again for the same reason. I asked them what happened to the first one I gave you? They said they never received. So I made a new copy and gave it to them directly and I again called me a few months later for the same thing. They lost it again. Not only that, the head quarters in Maryland sends me a letter claiming I dont have paper works and that I owe them money after the branch in national city said they have it taken care of. I called the Maryland branch and they have to record of me even recieving benefits. Wtf. So you have been giving me benefits but dont have a record of me or that I've been recieving benefits? I have been fighting leukemia for 20 years and they dont even have that in record. Wtf is this. A circus of monkeys pretending to be government officials. Once again I have to go back to national city branch and dispute the letter while I was just released from the hospital for a bone marrow transplant. I have no immune system at all yet and I have to take myself to see these clowns work and lose all my shit. They need to have all staff be reevaluated to see if they are even doing there jobs. read more

I'm estimating I'll be out of here by 3. The line is moving efficiently. You check in on a kiosk, receive a printed ticket with your number and wait for it to be called. The positive reviews are real folks! I am not easily impressed but I was in there today and picked this office vs going to downtown due to the positive reviews. Glad I did. Whoever is in charge at this location deserves all the accolades. The place is run smoothly. Every employee that I interacted with- the 2 guards outside and the gentleman who helped me all get an A+ for politeness, attitude and customer service. The African American woman who was kindly making an announcement to everyone in the waiting room was so professional and helpful trying to make sure everyone knew where to be and how the process worked. WOW, the other SS offices need to take note. There is such a thing as well-trained, kind government employees who deserve and appreciate their jobs. I arrived at the Social Security office in Chula Vista on Wednesday shortly after 2PM, only to find that they were closed for the day. They did have a sign giving the addresses of their other locations. So I drove to the National City office. There was ample parking and the security guard was both kind and helpful. I got my number from the kiosk and waited no more than 1/2 hour before my number was called. The young lady at the counter processed my claim quickly and efficiently. Had I known it would be fast, easy and stress less I would've gone a long time ago. If you are going for a simple ssn card replacement or update you will be in and out. I went on a Thursday around noon and was out in 20 mins. Ask the guard at the entrance before getting in line to save yourself time from standing in a line you may not have to! I have NEVER been to a Social Security office and was done in less than 10min. EVER. First time for everything right? I was seriously expecting a lot of people since I came around afternoon, literally it was 3pm an HOUR before closing. (Yes, they close at 4pm, not 330) and it was EMPTY. Only one other person besides me. Is this real life? So I went in there and there were two offices? Left side is the field office, and right side is the actual card office. When I entered the "security" who was on his phone just asked "are you here for social security card?" (Uh duh, no I'm here for tacos and beer....) ANYWAY, obviously YES I am here for my SSN card and I just had to sign into the Kiosk and it asked the purpose of my visit, got a number slip, and 5min later I was called next. In and out quick! Now, I cannot vouch for the morning because I feel like in the morning is when EVERYONE else comes too. So, I recommend going later if possible! I can't believe how quick the service was though. They are disorganized and lose things (have to spend $700 to get replaced). Lost an original document that we sent through priority mail. Also sent stuff through their location dropbox and they still LOST THAT. They stated that they sent it back by priority also however, they have no tracking number or any explanation. The hours for this office are from 9am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday. I would recommend getting here by 8:40am if you need to get in and out as soon as possible for name changes. On a Tuesday morning in November I was 11th in line when I arrived at 8:45am and on the following Thursday I was 2nd in line when I arrived at 8:40am. There are 2 lines in the morning outside the building. On the left (east) side is the line for benefits and on the right (west) side is the line for cards. Need to change your name after getting married? The right line is for you :) Once in the building you check in at a kiosk and get a ticket. Make sure you print and fill out your form ahead of time and bring in your Marriage license/certificate and Drivers License. read more

I get that many places are still closed due to COVID but the website CLEARLY states that people WITH APPOINTMENTS are allowed to go in so long as they have no symptoms or have been exposed to anyone contaminated. I called to make an appointment to finally change my last name after getting married. First off, the lady wouldn't give me her name AND was being rude and trying to mask it by laughing it off. Throughout the conversation she continued to be rude and not willing to help at all. FYI the website where it says appointments are allowed INSIDE, was updated July 17th 2020 so it's recent. I got to the location around 8:40am and there was a line out the door, I suggest you arrive early so that you don't have a long wait time. I was probably 10th or so in line and I waited just over an hour. It took less than 5 minutes once my number was called. The gentleman I worked with was friendly and quick.
