ok this review is LONG overdue. SoCal Powerlifting is a like a 2nd home. Ive been training here for over 2 years (back since the old Newport Beach location) and it just keeps getting better and better. I honestly love all the staff so much. They really make this place feel like a family and not just any old gym. The owner Zack also takes so much pride in his facility. He has continued to upgrade the equipment (like seriously who has this many combo racks..... no other gym in socal). With the third expansion he has added so much new equipment and expanded the body building room area. He even listened to members requests and purchased a stair master :) This is seriously a powerlifting dream! It has every specialty barbell and all the calibrated kg plates your heart could desire. On top of that the people that go here are all amazing and its so fun to workout in a gym full of people who support each other. Before the pandemic the gym would also host monthly social events (and holiday parties) so I can't wait until we get back to doing fun stuff like that! I also love that the gym is 24/7 access and that the members take pride in working out here and keeping our facility clean. I am so glad I found SoCal and am grateful to be a part of this community! read more

Hands down the best gym I've ever been to. Been going for a few months, can't think of a time I had to wait to use equipment, tons of squat racks/bench's available. Coaching is great, Juan is a great coach. Staff is friendly as well. Highly recommend. read more

Great coaching great community and communication love how there very responsive and very intuitive

Whether advanced or just starting out, this is the place to be if you want to better yourself. They offer a variety of options from a simple 24/7 membership to personalized coaching. I came in as a beginner with no background in powerlifting, but with my coach, Jaden, I am slowly working on perfecting my form and getting stronger. It's a pleasure to go to a gym that is starting to feel like a family. The initial welcome by Zack (owner) and Alex (general manager) was really when I knew "this is where I want to train." because no other gym has the owner come out and greet their gym-goers. This isn't your average gym where you just do your own thing and go home, it's an environment where everyone wants everyone to get better. Although nervous at first, I'm glad I made the decision and commitment to SoCal Powerlifting. This is an experience everyone should at least try once in their lives. read more

I'm a morning person so I go around 5am, and they have an access key for their members that opens the door and cameras everywhere! Of course it's Irvine so pretty safe overall but you never know! I have to say I've been impressed with how close people are and if you're open to conversation, it feels like a family working out near each other. They have top of the line equipment to set yourself up easily without wasting energy that you'll be using to hit those PRs! I have to say I appreciate how clean it is, coming from a commercial gym it's like night and day. Another thing I will add is that everything is in kilograms so it took me a bit to do the conversions, but they have a chart to help you. read more

Have you ever imagined if Titans walked the earth? Or how about giants just hanging out? This is EXACTLY what you will see when you walk in this gym. This is a testament to the training and programming. EVERYONE. IS. STRONG. AND. GINORMOUS. And I mean everyone. Even the dog is built like truck. And even with all of the muscles, everyone is sooo friendly. The gym is like a home away from home. When it comes to the programming, world class. Every coach is Super knowledgeable and willing to help you out. 10/10 would recommend. read more

I've been a member of SCPL since 2020 and there aren't enough words to describe how great this gym has treated me. From all the wonderful members and coaches to the mental and physical benefits, this gym has been lifesaving. This is a true gym community that is welcoming to new lifters as well. They offer open gym access or coaching with customized programs specifically tailored for you to meet your goals. My coach, Tim has helped me reach my strength goals and I have the utmost respect for how much he's helped me and many others improve themselves. So I highly recommend hopping onboard with coaching if your training has become stagnant or you're looking for guidance. It's the best investment I've made for myself. If you're looking for a permanent powerlifting gym or just a drop in, this place should be top on your list in the OC. 24 hour access including holidays so your gains never stop coming year around. Their equipment is consistently being updated with calibrated plates and competition style adjustable racks to help you achieve your strongest self! read more

I've only been on the program for a month but I'm already starting notice changes in my body and the quality of my lifts have sky rocketed. Before this I've only started powerlifting for 10 months but in the one month I've been working with John I've noticed drastic improvements. The gym is clean and well maintained and the 24hr access is a big plus. read more

3 $85 sessions ($255) and $300 dollars A MONTH is what it costs. Your welcome! At first I was confused; they showed me this PowerPoint with their plans prices and NOWHERE does it say that the prices are PER MONTH. Even then I was iffy about joining. They brought it the owner to talk me into joining. I told him it's too steep a price. He hears me say $60-$70 a month isn't that bad once I pay the initial three sessions. At no point does he correct me. 3 sessions and $255 later, I pick my plan and come to find out that it's $300 what I would be paying MONTHLY. I walked out and told them I wasn't interested. read more

I came in as a brand new lifter with back pain on my squat while doing Starting Strength 5x5. Got my Tim as my coach and 1.5 years later I've more than doubled all of my PRs. Tim is patient, supportive, and brilliant. I love that I can workout any time, have access to the best equipment, never have to wait for a rack, receive high quality feedback daily, and just have to show up and hit the numbers Tim programs for me. Never thought I would compete or make close friends at a gym, but SoCal PL has gifted me both. Y'all da best read more

At first it seemed intimidating just because I haven't touched a powerlifting gym at all but everyone here is so friendly and helpful! My coach Jenna is so helpful and gives so many tips! I've been doing the main lifts on my own and wanted to push myself further and properly, that's why I decided to switch to this niche specific gym. Jenna has been such great help and I've learned a lot more things than I ever could have on my own!! read more

I signed up for my first powerlifting coach with them and while it has only been a month, I've noticed some significant improvements with my lifts, especially with my form! Before this, I was already lifting in the gym for four years but now I feel like my training has been incredibly productive and efficient now that I have a coach (thank you Jenna) who writes my programs and provides feedback on my workouts on a regular basis. The staff here has been really friendly, welcoming and helpful. The gym is also such a huge upgrade from a typical commercial gym. I wish I can do the majority of my training at SoCal but since it's a bit out of the way for me, I plan to train there once a month! read more

Just started this new gym. John is awesome and helped me a bunch! Def recommend! Super clean and has great equipment for powerlifting

Great staff and crew. Online coaching and in person coaching is good too! State of the art equipment.

Hands down, one of the best gyms I have been to. Coming from bodybuilding-oriented gyms, I was looking to increase my strengths with SBDs. Once I moved from northern to southern California, I found this gym and it's better than I originally pictured - Wallmounts, power and combo racks, squat stands, belt squat, GHD, reverse hyper, calibrated plates and all the other accessories strength conditioning stuff you need to help with powerlifting. I got a SBD assessment from one of their coaches, Sebastian. Each assessment, he mentioned things I can improve on to help with my lifts. I've been doing them, and have increased in all lifts. I highly recommend this place if you want to be serious than the average gym goer. Just being in this environment, you absorb so much. Get an assessment from one of their coaches. They'll give you the advice you'll need in order to perform optimally. read more

I have been working with Coach Jenna for officially a month now today and it has been amazing. I get fast responses when I have questions regarding equipment, movements, and I know that my personal training preferences are being catered to as well. I also get detailed feedback on my lifts within 24 hours of my video submission. Would definitely recommend! read more

Great gym. Nice guys. Great selection of equipment and in a convenient location. Big buy in.

Dope people. Dope coaches. Dope gym. Best place to train! When looking for a dedicated place to lift & train, there's nowhere better than SoCal Powerlifting.. read more

I was about 6 weeks out from my 2nd USAPL meet at SoCal Powerlifting, and I started a strength block to prepare for it. So I thought, what better way to prepare myself for the competition? The answer is to train on competition equipment where the venue is at. Duh! When I found out there was an open gym option, this was the perfect opportunity, so that I can train in the mornings before work. At first, I was a bit hesitant to train at SoCal Powerlifting, since I am used to training at home, but I do not have competition equipment. After trying out a few day passes, I was sold on doing the open gym. SoCal Powerlifting has an a lot of combo racks and other training equipment that you don't have to wait to use the equipment. Also, I have never trained regularly on competition equipment, but the people training there were super helpful and nice to show me how to adjust the combo racks. Also, the people there are willing to help and spot me on heavy squats and bench. The atmosphere and vibe are great, since everyone is supportive, super focused on training, and wants you to crush your lifts! I would highly recommend SoCal Powerlifting for your training goals, whether or not you are preparing for a competition or just training in general. You won't regret training there. read more

Dope spot, strong people. Everyone here is very nice and the environment is welcoming. I like training here.

I was lifting with a personal trainer at 24 until he ended up leaving. I opted to look for other options and found this place thanks to yelp! Coach Zack is great, he's super personable and knowledgeable on all this stuff. I'm still starting out, so he's helping me a lot with proper form and now I'm doing all the accessory workouts, which I've never done before. He is flexible but won't let me slack, so it's great. I get my butt kicked hard but it's worth it. I'm not looking to get competition strong or anything - they cater to all levels and goals for lifting so don't be shy! Check it out! read more

This gym has over 8 combo racks for you to lift with and they just got a new combo jungle gym for all of your accessories. The people are all monsters when it comes to lifting and you'll definitely make progress when coming here to lift with all of the equipment provided at this facility. read more

I have never had to wait for a piece of equipment, and the atmosphere is super welcoming while still giving you space to do your own thing. Coaching has helped me ramp up around an old injury that had derailed my training in the past. 24/7 access and hybrid online/in-person coaching make it easy to plan training around your own schedule. It's everything you could ask for in a gym! read more

SoCal Powerlifting is more than just a gym, it's such a uniquely welcoming community and environment. The owner and coaches are all incredibly knowledgeable, encouraging and understanding. When I was injured, got bored with my program, or was just worn out from other activities, they adjusted my program specifically for me and still got me stronger than I was before. They supported me in my first sanctioned powerlifting competition and put on so many fun community-building events, where I made genuine friends and met wonderful people. I was a member for almost two years, and would definitely recommend SoCal Powerlifting to anyone of all skill levels and athletic goals. read more

I have been a local online client with SoCal Powerlifting for about a year and a half now and I absolutely love it. I originally found them in search for a 1-on-1 coach to help me train for my first powerlifting meet. I decided to stick around because I found a love for the sport and the community at this gym is so supportive. Also, the coaches all really care about their clients. My coach, Alyssa, is amazing. She has helped me improve my form and her programming has helped me see huge increases in my strength. I can't wait to compete here again in November. read more

One of the best facilities I have ever been to. Left the commercial gym scene recently in hopes of finding a gym with consistently great energy. I have serious goals and like to train with serious people. This place is full of positive vibes and good people. The owner truly cares about the business and every client/member. It shows by how responsive and friendly all the staff is and how clean and well organized everything is. Whatever goal you have coming through the doors here will be crushed. SoCal Powerlifting has everything I need to hit my strength goals while also having enough bodybuilding equipment if you're also into full body aesthetics. Couldn't be happier and will be a member here for a long time. read more

Great gym! has everything I need. Clean equipment. Love the atmosphere. Major upgrade coming from a commercial gym.

Not being a stranger to weightlifting before, I've had some experience with the 3 big weightlifting moves for a couple of years. The issue was that these moves were self-taught. There has been a thought in the back of my mind that my self-taught techniques could be at best limiting progression or at worst slowly teaching me bad form and being more prone to injury. Moving back down to LA, it was now a better time than ever to learn to do these lifts the RIGHT way. Where else would you learn these lifts other than from a gym with coaches who compete in the sport? This is where Socal Powerlifting comes in! The whole process from inquiry to scheduling my diagnostic sessions was a breeze. Alex gave me a call the same evening of the day I made the inquiry. The introduction call was super chill and laid back, with Alex getting a better idea of my background with weightlifting. Matched with Sebastian, one of the coaches for my diagnostics sessions. Those diagnostic sessions showed some of the bad form I learned over the years, and opened my eyes on my lack of mobility. Throughout the 5 sessions, Sebastian was incredibly patient and helpful - breaking down not only the steps of proper technique of a certain lift, but the WHY behind them. As an engineer I immensely appreciated Sebastian providing the WHY alongside the HOW for what we were doing. Zach (the owner) was always there with the other coaches and engaging everyone. Great vibes all around. Sold. Signed up for the one year membership with SoCal Powerlifting to build my technique and strength base the right way. read more

I was looking for a new coach to help me prepare for my upcoming competition. After researching multiple coaches and after a friend's recommendation, I decided to reach out to SoCal Powerlifting. I have a competition coming up in May 2024. I can only speak to the coaching since I am currently in the central coast and not at the physical gym itself. When I spoke with one of the trainers, I found them to be friendly, helpful, and professional. I was assigned to Coach John. I have been working with John for a few weeks and things have been going really well. He has provided me with daily breakdowns of my lifts and helped dial in my form in ways that have not been done before. He has pointed out areas in need of improvement in my lifts and these small adjustments have helped immensely. He explains his points clearly and concisely along with why these changes are important. He provides me with a personally tailored program that is adjusted according to how the prior lifts have been going. He has been responsive to me, responding within 24 hours and answering any questions or concerns I have had. Additionally, he was open to exploring what exercises I enjoy and whether they can be incorporated while we prepare for the comp. He explored any past injuries I had so he could make any needed to the program or help me figure out ways to work with these injuries. It felt personal yet professional when working with John and that is something I value. I highly recommend reaching out to SoCal powerlifting whether you are preparing for a competition or looking to improve your overall training. They can help you and will work with you to achieve your goals! read more

This gym is powerlifting focused, and has plenty of space and equipment for all your needs. There's a whole bunch of racks to use, and platforms, and there are even tripods you can use to film yourself. The gym is also 24/7, so you can come whenever you want. Primarily the gym is focused as a coaching center, but you can skip that if you want and just drop in and work out. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful! read more

I recently got into powerlifting and decided to try out SoCal powerlifting. Zack, the owner is very knowledgeable about powerlifting and his dog Harley is awesome. Shelby coached me and taught me all the essentials before I started training on my own. Everyone is friendly and jacked, but not in an intimidating way. If you're thinking about powerlifting, I say you come give it a try. read more

I've been a Crossfitter for 6 years and when I moved out here I had trouble finding a community as well as a fitness regimen that worked well for me. I honestly don't remember how I stumbled on SoCal Powerlifting (I think a random google search or Instagram algorithm), but I'm glad I did. I think I needed a fundamental change in my training and I found a great fit here. I haven't been coming long, but between the coaching (Tim is the man) and the community I've experienced so far, I think I'll be here for awhile. I've been on my personalized program for a couple weeks now, I'm getting more comfortable under the barbell again and can't wait to see how my lifts grow and improve. Tim continued to actively work with me past my initial assessments into the first week of my programming to make sure I understand the program and he's tweaked it here and there as we've gotten a clearer idea of what I need and what I'm comfortable with - he hasn't been afraid to already push me a bit as well. I'll try to remember to post an update after a few months. :-) read more

Looking for your next powerlifting gym to progress your deadlift, squat, and bench? Definitely give SoCal Powerlifting a call to see if it's the right fit for you! Been a member since Apr 2019 and can see myself using this gym + coaching service for as long as I'm in the area. Main selling points for me: - RACKS: Gym has a large number of racks for powerlifters. Take a look at pics to see amount and types. The owner (Zack) essentially built the sickest garage gym in an Irvine warehouse. Peak hours gets lively but I've always been able to secure a rack to workout. Off peak (24 hr access) hours are pretty quiet (weekday morning and lunch). - COACHING: Coaches are friendly and knowledgeable. Prior to signing up for the monthly package, Juan onboarded me over 4 sessions (1 session per lift + 4th session to review my worst lift). I had been self taught up to that point via Starting Strength and YouTube. During those 4 sessions, Juan gave me solid coaching cues that have really stuck. Form is much cleaner now and I feel more stable in my lifts than I ever did before (ie no more knee/back pain!). Coaching includes online programming (workout plan) via TrueCoach and a predetermined number of in person sessions per month. - NOVICE TO ADVANCED: Gym is welcoming of lifters of all skill levels. If you want to get a feel for the gym, check out their ig @socal_powerlifting. Good luck on your gym hunt! read more

I was struggling to find a gym that I felt comfortable at and was also open 24/7. I heard about SoCal Powerlifting and stopped in to check it out. From that day on, I have loved it! I have never been a part of a gym with such a strong and welcoming culture. It is very clean and everyone puts their plates and bars/dumbells up. Right now I'm not getting coached but in the future I will be considering it. Again, incredible gym! read more

Before I even stepped foot in this gym, I sent an email inquiry after looking through their website. I got a response in 9mins from the Owner and set up an appt for a phone call later that day for more information and to see what the gym offered. Exactly as planned I received my phone call right on time by a very knowledgeable and easy to talk to Coach, Alex. He asked about my background and interests and what made me consider the gym. Within 30 mins of the phone call I showed up to the gym for a tour and to get even more information. Every one was super nice, and laid back. The gym felt like a great fit so I was ready and eager to move forward. The very next day I met with my coach , Sebastian. Again, very nice and laid back. Super knowledgeable and the guy is a student of the game. He knows everything powerlifting, and has a passion for the sport and helping people on their journeys. Everything gets a thumbs up! Gym, equipment, atmosphere, people, coaches, location, parking, etc. Highly recommend this gym for everyone from the experienced lifter to those that are brand new to the game. read more

Getting off your duff and deciding to make a change in your life is always the first step to the rest of your life. Finding a proper gym is just as daunting of a task. I reached out to SoCal Powerlifting in hopes to get strength training and progress in other aspects of life like JiuJitsu. After doing a bunch of research, finding a plethora of instagram posts, I reached out to SoCal Powerlifting through their site. In no time at all, Zack reached out and we started talking about what the gym offers and how they operate. Freakin awesome btw. I headed off to the gym to meetup with Alex for a quick tour and really define how programs are structured... define my goals... and really figure out what I want to do and how SoCal Powerlifting can help me get there. He emphasized safety first through proper technique and a structured program that really convinced me that this is the way to go. My first session is in the books with Juan who was ridiculously patient with me while analyzing and verifying where i stand as a noob. Focal points were defined within our first session and can't wait for the next session to log these baselines and get to results. Everyone that I encountered at the gym was super friendly... very accommodating and really ready for everyone to get fit and get going!. read more
