I went in as a walk-in on a Sunday after checking the place out on yelp. I don't live in the area but I needed to get my haircut. Each barber that was there was cutting someone's hair and every customer looked like they had a really clean cut when they left. It's always a bit anxious sitting down with a new barber when you're particular with your hair, but Javi was a really cool dude and cordial. My bf called to schedule a quick cut and the lady who answered the main line informed us that Kevin would be able to assist, so we drove 20 minutes down to then be notified that he couldn't fit my boyfriend in even though he didn't have any more clients to serve with 30 minutes left on the clock. 1st and last visit @ SoCal Barbershop. Good vibe, friendly staff, decent quality. I gave this shop only two stars for the overpricing. I came in to get a a simple cleanup that typically cost me $10. / $20. Max a numerous other shops due to the fact that I have very short hair -( number #1) all the way around to begin with. I was charged $35.00 for a simple fade and no cutting on top as I mentioned earlier cuz I'm already buzzed head/ hair receding, so it's super short already. As I've mentioned decent quality, good vibes, but way over priced. Maybe if I have some hair to cut them maybe ... Two Stars. If I ever go in again I will definitely consider adding more stars if a cut like mine is considered. read more

I walked in to get a simple fade, it was empty and I was seen pretty quick. Heres my issue, when they took me to the back area of the shop and started my haircut, the barber wouldn't stop texting on his phone and making calls. No lie, a haircut that should have taken 20 minutes took about an hour, and having TVs everywhere didn't help. Seemed like haw was too busy watching tv to finish my haircut. My wife took our son to get his hair cut at SoCal Barbershop yesterday. We have used a couple different places and have not been happy. The main barbershop we go to is in Ventura which kills the day getting our hair cuts. We are very happy to of found this place closer to home. Danny is the one who cut my sons hair. My wife put me on the phone with Danny to explain how we would like it cut. When I got home from work I was very impressed and obviously my wife was when he got done. We will be back again. This is literally the first place I've had reply back using the Yelp messenger service after many messages sent to other businesses. Ralph was quick in replying and kept their promise of under one hour response time. I typically have a hard time trying to find a good barber that can take any appointments on weekdays after 5 PM but this one was happy to. Ralph set me up with Angel after some good back and forth asking for pricing and how they accept payments. I walked in a bit early and it did take a minute for someone to come up and asked if I needed help but I didn't find this to be a big deal, I was probably in a good mood. Reading other reviews on here, I had the opposite experience. Angel was very social and knew how to have a conversation by asking the right questions. The haircut was good and he knew the terms and the look I was trying to achieve. I walked out feeling so much better about myself. At the end of it all, I was able to get Angel's number and I may now have a barbershop that I can rely on whenever i'm in the area. Side note: During our cut, I got to know more about the owner and how he discovered some of his barbers like Angel. I'm happy to hear how he was able to give this young man an opportunity to make a career out of what he loves. Nothing but respect for that. Our regular barber is closed on Mondays and we had some time so I took my 4 year old son for a cut, I had my 6 year old daughter with me. The barber we had was nice enough but was not very good. My husband asked to cut my son's hair the way his is cut and he had to basically explain how to do it (an extremely simple cut). There was almost no one there and you'd think the staff would be respectful about using appropriate language but they didn't give a fuck. They were cussing the whole time and put on some music talking about how some girl's coochie stunk, etc. which I couldn't help but laugh. I appreciate a relaxed workplace, but show some respect to your customers. I mean tone it down a little for the 1 of 2 customers there that is a 4 yo and his 6 yo sister. Fucking ghetto ass place. We were in town for the week vacationing at my In Laws Beach House At the Silverstrand Oxnard. And my 8 year old Son Dominick insisted he needed a haircut to look presentable . Friendly barbershop. Open on weekends. Music and sports games on depending on the day of the week and time of the year. Been going here since I moved two years ago. Ask for Cornell. One of the best barber who does the best fades and tapers and has a great sense of humor. They do not rush hair cuts even when they are booked and have plenty of walk-ins waiting. Just know they will still take care of you like they do to everyone else. Any problems, owner is there to keep the peace and is very fair about any situation that may present itself. Came here a couple of times because they are open on Sundays. The first time was a pretty good experience although the barber cut a part into my head with the straight razor without asking me if I wanted that. I didn't, but it turned out OK. The second time I got the same barber. I guess since he cut my hair the first time he is "my barber" when I come to the shop. That's fine, but it would have been nice to get my hair cut by a few of the guys to see which one works with my hair the best. This time the cut was pretty lack luster. He didn't communicate very well and it was pretty clear he wanted to get done with my cut as soon as possible. Maybe he was having a bad day, I dunno, but the bottom line is that it was a negative enough experience that I probably won't be back. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. I recently moved in to town and I was reading the reviews on this place and they weren't too bad. I went in and sat down took a number. After waiting for 30 minutes there was 3 barbers just standing up doing nothing. A woman and a child come in and they seat them right away. They finally sat me down after them once I said something. After I get a young barber I though," alright cool finally I'm getting a haircut." Nope he cut my scalp and for head with his clippers all around. I didn't notice till after I got home and took a shower. My hard part is way off from where it should be and some of my hair is so much shorter where it should all be the same length. I got my haircut by Angel this morning after Supercuts screwed it all up. This was the best haircut I have had in a long time. I highly recommend Angel. I'm from out of town and I'm here for a week or two. Hopefully I can get another one before I head back home to Houston. Javier has now become my barber and is equally talented. This barbershop gives welcoming vibes as soon as you come in and you will be acknowledge with a waiting time. Took my brother to get his hairs cut here in November and I get that it's a barbershop and customer service is probably not at the top of their list... but I'm a stylist myself and I think they could have been a little warmer.
