After recently moving to Oxnard from San Diego, I've really been on the hunt for a good barber that I can add to the option list to get a good fade. It's been awhile since i've actually cut my own hair (which i've been doing since 11), but Smooth's Barber Shop has what it takes in my standards and is as good as it gets being that I get cleaned up weekly for work. G-Man was his name short for General. His technique was on point. Precision is a good word to describe the time he took to make sure I received what it was I was paying for. Granted it was $16, it was worth it. He cut my hair precisely how I requested when he asked the second of sitting in the chair. Good guys along with a chill environment. Cash only so before showing up stop by to pick up a $20. Unlike myself where he cut my hair first then went to the ATM to return to pay. Friday, Saturday, and Sundays he said is the busiest a recommended to set up an appointment. Monday thru Thursday simply walk-in. Just a heads up. read more

Good fade, poor clean up I came in here for a medium razor fade. Usually how a haircut goes is hair gets cut, hair goes everywhere and barber cleans you and everything else. Not in this case, the. "Barber" left me covered in hair. Owe and the razor was no where to be found. I guess these "barbers" work without them. But besides the fact that i didnt get an actual razor fade and i had to clean up a mess, the fade was done right. Ill probably look for something more cleaner next time. read more

I happened to be in Oxnard after visiting the Larrivee Guitar factory nearby, and found this place on yelp. Although they had a bunch of appointments lined up, they were able to squeeze me in. They definitely know how to use a set of clippers. Like Christopher K. stated, easily one of the best fades I've ever gotten. But what would keep me coming back is the banter between the barbers. Example: Balding Latino Barber to Barber #2: "Hey man, after I'm done with this guy, can you give me a fade?" Barber #2: "Bro, you ain't got no hair left! I'm gonna have to give you a fade from the top down!" Not the cheapest place for a cut, but the quality and entertainment value is easily worth the cost. Smooth's is the place to go. read more

If you're in Ventura, oxnard, port hueneme, channel islands, hell this shit is even worth a small drive, go to smooths barber. The atmosphere of the place was great and people were cycling in and out. Friendly barbers and friends to chill with while getting your cut, sports center on the two flat screen TVs, and rap music playing in the background. The hair cut was amazing I asked for a fade short on the sides and to keep the top and I got the cleanest fade i've ever seen. the clean up was also great I walked out feeling like I walked in, free of hair on my shirt. read more

THIS IS THE WORST HAIRCUT I'VE EVER GOTTEN IN MY LIFE! I go in and ask for a #3 w/ a long taper & a lineup. The guy starts going all quick & the guard comes off and already nicks my hair. I look and there's beer cans on the floor. I already knew it was going to be a crappy haircut from there. THE TAPER WAS UNEVEN, HE GAVE ME WHAT LOOKED LIKE A #1 BUZZCUT. He didn't even line up the back, the front lineup was horrible and he cut me with his razor. BAD CUT & NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR! Horrible and then it's $16?! I had to go get my money back. I could have cut my hair better than what had done. This dude was either faded or doesn't know how to cut hair. Either way, I don't recommend going here unless you want what you didn't ask for and a crappy haircut. read more

Worst haircut to date. I went in for something very simple , they do them everyday. It looked like a first grader cut my hair. I was in Oxnard visiting and needed a fresh cut. Went down to Smooths barber and waited maybe 10 minutes and G gave me a nice fade. One of the best so far. Paid a bit more than usual $16 compared to $13 but it was worth it. Came out looking fresh and so clean. Ha ha. I liked it. If I'm ever in town again I will definitely go back. Thanks G! read more

Was totally shitting bricks about coming here because I'm very picky about my hair. I've been going to my last barber sine I was 6. I called Smooths', and spoke to "The General". I expressed my concerns about my hair, and he said he'd hook me up. When I get to Smooth's, the general was youngster with lots of tattoos, with a very small build. The guys is is not big at all. I was like damn, a young thug is about to cut my hair, an i'm used to the older cats that got their shit down.. Well, my hair came out fine, although he went shorter than i wanted it.... I can tell he's still perfecting his skills...didn't feel like an older barber with years of experience which is what i'm used to. You know, the older barbers, the old schoolers just have a certain way with how they maneuver the clipers..they got the conversation going...a very nice experience... They just know how to finesse the scissors and work their way around some hair....They got hip hop in the background, rap...not really what i like..but oh well...Don't get me wrong, the General is a very good barber...I'll certainly go to him again in a pinch.. read more

stopped in while on military travel. great urban feel (graphic art, tattoos). no loud vacuum clippers deafening me or drowning out the light conversation and weekend stories between barbers and customers. probably the best fade i've ever received. don't remember the guy's name, but he was a smaller dude completely tatted up with a voice like steve-o. i'll go back each time i am in the area for sure, next time i will get the straight razor fade though. read more
