THIS PLACE IS SO SPECIAL!!!! Really & Truly!!!…read more From the staff (Case worker Jeremiah, Counselor Jeremiah, and Ed) to the Pastors (Tom & Eric that come in and encourage the men). The staff here really care, love and invest all they have, from their heart, to minds, and souls to this program and the men treated here. They have 2 Tracks (Traditional AA & Christian) and both are amazing in their own ways. My husband has been to a handful of programs and never have they had such an impact on him mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as Covenant Hills has. God's presence is truly here in this place! His love, comfort and strength is seen and felt throughout each meeting, each staff member and truly in and through these men who put their all in this program, because really these men coming in really only have one last shot at sobriety. This disease is truly life or death. Covenant Hills goes above and beyond basic treatment. They encourage the men to dig deep within themselves, and get to the root of the problem. And not just treating the addict or alcoholic on a surface level but deeper treatment and doing the steps. They focus on relapse, and recovery and why they are so important. And unlike any other program I have visited my husband at, they involve the family in their treatment, and in their recovery. Helping us cope in the right ways, through faith, counseling, healing and in understanding why and how we can affect or contribute to their sobriety in healthy ways vs unhealthy ways. They teach us how to be a good supporter and not co-dependents that enable and continue to allow behavior or manipulation to occur but how to set healthy boundaries that will ensure our loved ones to be successful this time in their sobriety and for the rest of their life. My husband was blessed with a Scholarship for 60 days. They also take insurance which is great for all of the people that really need the help, as well as a being in a safe, positive, yet disciplined, loving, caring and structured environment. During those 60 days, he met brothers that I know he will stay friends for the rest of their lives. They really went deep, shared their pasts , hopes, dreams, faith. hurts, weaknesses, struggles and their hearts with one another. This has been such a truly special experience for my husband because he had isolated himself and felt alone in his addiction/alcoholism for so many years, too many which broke my heart. But here, by divine intervention, these men connected and found strength, peace, hope, love and a special brotherhood that only God could've orchestrated. A real support system while they all journey together in sobriety. A Special thank you to Jeremiah, his case worker. Thank you for your wisdom, guidance, encouragement, brotherly love and counsel, my husbands life has been forever changed because of your obedience to God's call and the purpose he has placed on your life to give back with all you have to these men. God Bless You! And another Special Thank you, to Jeremiah, his counselor. Thank you for your Godly counsel and care for God's wayward sons and their families. Thank you for your patience and for listening to not just my husband, but for listening and counseling me as well. He has placed you there with that Pastor's heart of service, love and care for such a time as this. We appreciate you so much. God Bless you! And last but not least, Ed their teacher, advisor, and counselor. Thank you for your passion, your wisdom, your love and care for the men in this program and for their families. You truly help the helpless, those struggling that have finally come to the end of themselves and need your support, discipline, encouragement and your voice of love and hope to help them make it through this journey successfully. You help equip them and us with the tools necessary, with the faith absolutely necessary, and the will to get through this together as a family unit. I really can't say enough good things about Covenant Hills. I am just so Thankful & Grateful for this program and the staff. God Bless you all!!!!

Part of the reason was the 5 other patients in recovery who I was lucky to be co-habitating with, but the serene location overlooking the sand and beach didn't hurt as well. Most importantly, however, was the amazing support team, case manager, group session leaders and onsite medical team. A shout out to the following who made my stay exceptional include: Gina (intake on the phone) Derek (Personal Case Manager and Group Leader) Robert (Group Leader) Natalie (Director, Therapist and Group Leader) "Joyful" Nurse Jenny Jessie (Private Chef) "Smiling" Edith (Support Team) "Isa" Isabel (Support Team) "Laughing" Adriana (Support Team) " King" Jon Hans (Support Team) "Chauffeur" Patrick (Support Team) "Stoic" and overworked Steve (Director of Facilities) After a lifetime of on and off alcohol addiction, I not only am a changed person, but a spiritually charged individual. Who would've guessed that considering this is not an AA 12 Step Facility. Our Lord is only discussed if it is brought up by each individual in his own manner and choosing. For me, it was my "rock" and I let it guide me throughout my stay. I am now Joyful again and am looking forward to my life's renewal. Thank you Charters Capistrano!

Michael, my therapist, was the first therapist I feel understood me and gave me many tools to move forward in my recovery. The other case manager and therapist Ligi and Nicole who ran groups were excellent! All of the techs on staff (Mo, Dominic, Dave, Bobbie, Greg, Elizabeth, Tim, Matthew and Jose) were knowledgeable, helpful and just great humans. Every single person was outstanding! I cannot say enough good things about the people there. My 4 stars is due to some issues I had in what I saw as a breakdown of communication overall. John, the director of operations, was understanding and attentive to my concerns. I know it's a work in progress but many times it didn't seem that the left hand knew what the right was doing. There were a few issues with me being included in outings, travel to outings as well as meetings, consistent groups during a few days of my stay, getting prescribed medication and grocery delivery. Overall, all things that should be easy to improve. Thank you to everyone that helped during my stay. I feel very confident I will be successful with my recovery!

A new client was allowed to touch and throw my possessions out of my bathroom cabinet. Obviously the exchange got heated and the next day I was discharged. Able to change only heard one side. Hers. I had been making good progress as a client of 2+ months w a total of 4 months sobriety. They took the word of a woman who had just been discharged from a mental facility over me - again - a client in good standing. My spineless therapist gave me the news and informed me that the decision was made and that I was not allowed a word in edgewise. I was told at 1pm that I had to be out a 3pm. They provided no help w regards to housing or continued medication. If I had not had the financial and friendship support, I would have been out on the street w no continued medical care. This should be illegal and actually the tenant laws of California supersede any contract you sign w a sober living or disreputable company like Able to Change. In earnest I could have stayed until I had secured housing and they would be able to do nothing about it. I could have stayed for another 30 days. Now on to my therapist. He mentioned sex repeatedly in our group sessions - Ick! AND he also maintained a really inappropriate relationship w another young client. They often exchanged txt messages outside of business hours and therapy sessions. I felt slimy just watching it. The Power dynamic alone was ever in his favor - gross. This therapist was in his late 40s and the female client was 22. Additionally one of the house managers would often forget to put our medication in the safe overnight - both dangerous and unethical. Ariel now "Ariel Gatewood," a female house manager at Able to Change would often have her fiance on the property and in her room when she assumed no clients were around. Additionally she "borrowed over $170 dollars from myself and my roommate that she has yet, and probably never will pay back. Ariel Gatewood has no business working in treatment whatsoever. She is dishonorable and she abandoned her job, stealing kitchen utensils and tinfoil in the process. She should not be allowed to continue to prey on our vulnerable demographic. Bottom line Able to change is disreputable and harmful to people with mental health and substance use disorder. Bottom Line:They shoot their wounded.

She didn't know or care to know my history with my mother, and was not on my side. I felt judged, misunderstood, and like I was in a way, forced to be there by my own parents when I needed medical treatment so desperately. I felt this place just took the money and agreed to helping me, only to be somewhat shady and odd once I got there. It was sad time for me. I felt mistreated. That is not how you treat anyone (especially a sick person). I felt some of the staff was mean, especially Kat, and just watched me 24/7. I felt uncomfortable most of the time. Upon my last week or so there, I got yelled at and mistreated by another client in one of the houses I lived at. She was mocking me and I told the operations manager about it. He came by the house and got everyone's story in the house besides mine. The next day, I was called in the office and admitted I engaged in reactive abuse, which is when we react to unfairness in ways we don't mean because I made a rude comment back to the girl. My therapist Brynn labeled this as "worse" even though the other client was low key violent prone, and I have proof of that, because she is aggressive and was making fists when talking to another girl in the group. They used my reaction (which if they were actually versed in psychology they would know WHY i reacted this way), to kick me out of the house (as if I started the beef with the other client, which I didn't). Without enough of a notice, I ended up being forced to go to a sober living (mind you, I do not even have an addiction problem), and ended up on the street. They did not care to check in with me, and I was at this program for 5 MONTHS. They should have been on my side, knowing that I was in an abusive relationship with my parents and were holding finances over my head (which is financial abuse). The night I was left on the street, I really thought I may die that night. Thank God I have the faith of a mustard seed, because I prayed harder than ever after 2 days of homelessness. I ended up finding a REAL therapist to talk to who moved me into her home that night (thank you Jesus). While I was living there, the owner of Casa called me and I shared my grievences with her. When I shared them, she strangely made rude comments about how shes sure I "have not and will not" find a better treatment center to live at, but I was living at one. One in which the women were supportive, the home owner was fair, we each had our chores to do and kept the house very clean. There wasn't drama that any of the girls could get away with. When you're vulnerable, at times, you need somoene to stick up for you. Especially at a rehabilitation center. I do not recommend this phony, "counseling" center that takes your money and doesn't know how to help sick people who are vulnerable!!!! By the grace of God, I ended up going to a better treatment center after this who ACTUALLY helped me get better. I'm very glad i'm alive, and no I do not recommend this place at all.

I will say this, so far, it's going extremely well. The staff at my house is helpful and caring. They really go out of their way to make the people here feel comfortable & that in itself is truly appreciated, Esp bc I had serious fear and doubt about coming here at all. I've been pleasantly surprised at the level of care by the house staff. In particular.. April, Ivan, Tammy & Sutter have been a huge source of help in my treatment. I can talk to them about anything ( & I have had multiple meltdowns) & always receive a supporting conversation leaving me feeling very positive about the experience regardless of how uncomfortable I may be, feeling my feelings. Theo whom is my case manager is exceptional at his job. He is kind and very resourceful in all the aspects I ask of him. Like helping me with SDI, Doctor appointments and special requests- great listener and easy to talk to which is highly appreciated Brian my therapist is incredible at what he does. He is so well balanced calm and smart! I'm learning great EDMR & DBT Skills which have been a life saving tool in this process. Not using cannabis as a crutch was very difficult at first, I've used this for anxiety for a decade - Brian has truly helped me regulate my intense emotions through great breath work and other tools , Like EDMR Therapy . The counselors are lovely friendly and attentive , I truly have no complaints , I'm extremely committed to my healing so knowing these professionals care is very nice. I can really only speak from the mental health program which has been fantastic for me.. I put in a request to extend my stay because of the positive impact this is having for me. I attribute that to the people who work here completely. This review is from my personal experience. It has been a breath of fresh air for me. If you are struggling I would recommend trying this .

Each of them are focused and have personal high integrity. It's not just a job to them. For instance a CNA name Joanna once told me, "I work from my heart," and she truly does The other CNA's that deserve high mention are: LuzGraciela, CruzKatayna, Maria, April, Tatiana Shevchenko, Steven Legho in the dining room, Jackie (RNA) . Not to forget to mention Mike Adams Kitchen Dietary Supervisor, and everyone who works hard in the kitchen. Caroline (RNA) too! I want to mention Reggie Tamon Activities Director and Myrna Anderson who truly keep smiles on all the residences faces. Denise LVN too, (I don't want to leave anyone out!).
