Just finished a 25 day stint at Chapters. This was my 2nd long rehab over the past 5 years, and by FAR THE BEST! Part of the reason was the 5 other patients in recovery who I was lucky to be co-habitating with, but the serene location overlooking the sand and beach didn't hurt as well. Most importantly, however, was the amazing support team, case manager, group session leaders and onsite medical team. Who would've guessed that considering this is not an AA 12 Step Facility. Our Lord is only discussed if it is brought up by each individual in his own manner and choosing. My 21 day stay at Chapters was amazing. Every single person on staff was kind, caring and genuine. My case manager was Eva and her experience, dedication to clients and caring nature made the decision to get help so much easier. Michael, my therapist, was the first therapist I feel understood me and gave me many tools to move forward in my recovery. The other case manager and therapist Ligi and Nicole who ran groups were excellent! All of the techs on staff (Mo, Dominic, Dave, Bobbie, Greg, Elizabeth, Tim, Matthew and Jose) were knowledgeable, helpful and just great humans. Every single person was outstanding! I cannot say enough good things about the people there. My 4 stars is due to some issues I had in what I saw as a breakdown of communication overall. John, the director of operations, was understanding and attentive to my concerns. I know it's a work in progress but many times it didn't seem that the left hand knew what the right was doing. There were a few issues with me being included in outings, travel to outings as well as meetings, consistent groups during a few days of my stay, getting prescribed medication and grocery delivery. Alchohol Rehab, Please, please be aware of this place. It not only lacks proffesional care but for close to $ 90,000 for 30 days for once was a place for proffesionals and mature adults to seek rehabilitation in a quiet setting has become a dumping ground for junkies and even people who are outspokenly suicidal. The food is something I would probably not feed my dogs and nothing better. While I was there I got attacked in the kitchen, witnesses a drug overdose and a screaming outrageous lady that was transfered fro another house because the clients couldn't handle her. I emailed management about these individuals with my concern that something was going to happen if they didn't move these people out prior to the above references and they did nothing but inform me that they would be addressing the matter but never did, Even their house staff is disgruntled and in pursuit of other jobs. One of the house managers sits in his office all day and plays video games while the place is in shambles. Staff is calling out sick everyday because they dont want to go in. The material one of the therapist uses is completely out dated, repetitive and for the age bracket of teenagers and thats how you are treated once you walk into the house with your luggage. There is one therapist Tiffany that is outstanding and there are a few of the house staff that are good also. However I feel that the place is terrible to say the least, you are treated like a baby, not an adult in anyway. You are ordered not asked! There is little to no concern about your well being at all! In one case they did not have a BHT to come in for a shift so they pulled in a trainee which is a a hepa violation among many that they stacked up during my stay. I feel that I actually incurred a major set back during my stay there and could not wait to leave! Be advised that this is not a good place to seek recovery at all! read more

This was a complete waste of money and time! I was there 9 years ago. And it was not good from the moment I was picked up at airport. The director never said one word to me! Not hello. Nothing. That was the start. I felt like every day the rules changed! They didn't know what they were doing. The staff was a bunch of unprofessional gossipers that would talk behind patients backs to who ever was listening. It cost me $30 grand. One of the therapists was higher than a kite during group session. Blonde hair. Alley!! That was her name. Plus I got in trouble because I ate half a steak that was sitting on counter. I thought it was dinner. No. It was for a patient. How was I to know! I got taken to 3 private therapy talks asking why I did that! Swear to god! I finally got pissed and said you are charging me 30grand to stay here. And you guys are slamming me over a complete accident about half a cold steak?!!! lol They shut up. Omg. It's worth every penny. The therapist and case manager are awesome. Be prepared to use instacart for some meals if the house doesn't have the food you like. They allow a list and shop once a week. Sometimes the chef prepared meals are good, sometimes - not so much. But, I would recommend this home to anyone wanting to get/commit to recovery in a professional, respectful environment. read more

I came to Chapters broken and desperate for help. Being that this was my first time seeking treatment I did not know what to expect so I of course was apprehensive. However from the first moment I entered the beautiful beach side home I was treated with nothing but respect and dignity. The staff are excellent, well trained and caring ! I would like to point out two staff members Luis A. And Evelyn F. Who consistently went above and beyond to ensure each and every guest was taken care of. If you seeking treatment do not hesitate to make Chapters a part of your journey. The food is fantastic, there is also a jacuzzi and a Fabulous deck that overlooks the beach and a fire pit for fun bonding nights. This place is nothing but a money maker! I saw Red Flags the day I arrived! Everyone was brand new, and not trained at all, as 4 employees had quit the day I arrived due to how Chapters was being run! Several employees applauded me for writing down everything that was going on, such as wrong medication given, no sense of urgency, an employee named Shawn walking in my room without knocking as I just got out of shower, the case worker, Laurie was not qualified at all, people going in my room without permission, all employees vaping constantly, all employees cussing with every conversation, and an employee told me a previous client got extremely sick due to a gas leak in her room, and went 2 days before Chapters realized it/ then covered it up without telling the client! The online pictures is not the way the place looks at all! Very run down! I was told there would be a Dr on site, which was completely not the case! I never spoke to a Dr face to face, it was a 5 minute zoom session! You would finish the day at 2pm, then just had to stay in the house the entire rest of the day! The employees that are there are not trained, it's just one employee per shift who sits there on computer playing video games, vaping, and cussing! They are not professionals, with any kind of training, who should be in any facility for clients who come for help! I have been a manager for over 20 years and knows how a business should be run! I confronted the operations manager, Teresa, and let her know all my concerns, she knew I knew what I was talking about, and was intimidated by me! I asked her to look at video to see who was going in my room, Teresa said there was a camera pointed directly at my door and she would def be able to see! The next morning I messaged her to see who it was, but of course now there was no video footage!! Teresa wanted me gone! So she had another manager, Ryan, tell me I was being discharged, and needed to be gone by 5pm, and I live in Va, of course 2 weeks early! I was glad to be leaving such a poorly run facility, but that told me, Teresa was intimidated by me, and was scared of losing her job! I asked her what the CEO contact info was so I could explain what was going on, Teresa replies, I'm not going to give it to you, which again let me know she was in the wrong, or she would have just given it to me! I did find out on my own that the CEO's name is Chad Daugherty, but of course no info on how to email him! Another red flag! Please do not go to this place! My husband and I are still pursuing legal action because we do not want Chapters to continue to take clients money and not care what happens to client once they receive the money! I knew I had a problem when the paramedics rushed me to the ER , I had it bad and needed help with my addiction! After I got back home I started calling 800 numbers all over the country , but only one answered my very early AM call, it was Chad from Chapters who took my 1:30 call and was understanding of I was going through! They took my insurance , got me in fast, and welcomed me with open arms and smiles. The location and private rooms are a very nice touch , it's like a vacation at the beach even though you are in a structured rehab facility .The caring, loving staff are what make Chapters Capistrano so great, they will help you get better as they did for me. I would never recommend any person to go to any chapters treatment facility. They're all about money, unprofessional, non-communicative with their own staff, no doctor on staff 24/7 and I know it's Covid but every meeting I had with the dr. was via zoom. Upon time to leave they just pack up all the drugs they had been throwing down my throat put it in a bag and said have a nice day. There's no check out process, no brochure pamphlet with anyone's phone number or emails in case you do get in trouble or need help because you're struggling. They make too much money to not have even a stapled piece of paper with information in case you need it when you go. I was sent home on Thanksgiving day one of the biggest start of the drinking holidays because they said someone else needed my bed. It's been two days and that person still hasn't shown up. I was supposed to be there 14 days asked to extend to 30 but was told I never informed them I wanted to extend. (BULL SHIT). Was told they needed my bed after only a 12 day stay. I'm sure they will probably still charge my insurance for the full 14 days. Please go get help elsewhere and really do research before ever going to chapters or Monarch Shores facilities. read more

If you are looking for a Drug and Alcohol Treatment/Recovery program, LOOK NO FURTHER!!! because you just found it, the best on this planet earth. I mean it, when it comes to Chapters Capistrano CA, they nailed it. I have successfully completed the program here and am prepared to move on with my life completely sober. Look, I drank Wild Turkey 101 proof, a fifth daily, YES A DAY! for over 30 years and was a complete full blown alcoholic. See, it's a long story but I have had Angelic sightings and EVP's (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) at my home a long with a supernatural event that took place when I was eight years old. So, during an MDMR therapy session we brought my guardian Angel in, she is a White Angel (My Angel) for protection against the powers of darkness, for love, light from a supernatural state to the natural. Even my daughter once saw her when she was six and remembers. The Angel was non-threatening, my daughter didn't feel fear as a six year old, just a calming feeling was in the air I notice. God, sent in other angels from everywhere, the North, South, East, and West. All the spirits shielded me, allowing the holy spirit to work inside, ultimately healing me. My healing of understanding happened the day after we performed our first MDMR therapy, what happened? I found truth inside of me which allowed me to open a door to a pathway of light and healing. Ever since this occurance my body went into a physical relaxed state, my mind thinks clearly and my past I no longer have to live in. I now focus on the NOW, and the future, not forgeting my past but because we can't, it happened. The truth was found in forgiveness, all the blaming myself, sadness, guilt, shame, everything, all the negative turned into positive. It is really hard to believe, it happened so fast. That is a long time to habor my feelings, thoughts, and emotions, you guided me to this path where there, I found a way, the real true way, to forgive myself, as the fault I took the blame for wasn't mine. Through multiple techiques you helped me full circle to get to that place of understanding that "it was NOT my fault". What happened? I used, drugs and alcohol from age fourteen and on until 30 days ago today. Everything from cocaine, heroin, LSD, pills, weed, extasy, and everything I could get my hands on. It is amazing to me that I stopped the hard drugs only to find myself in the sorrows of alcohol useage. If I could I would give them no stars! They take your money and that is the bottom line. Completely false advertising! I had a close relative there for 24 hours and they ended up in the ER because they were not equipped to care for them. Also, the location is not secure and they do not keep a watchful eye to see if the patient is in the house or out! There is not a doctor there 24/7!! And trying to get ahold of a worker there, gets you the answering machine. If you have a serious drug or alcohol addiction, please go to a hospital for treatment where there are real doctors and nurses there full time, and giving you the correct medications to help you through this. From my experience, reviews of rehabilitation centers are sometimes jaded due to the sickness of the client. I read the horrible review posted and it is a perfect example of this. I was staying at Chapters when this "incident" occurred and it was the denial of the disease followed by retaliation in a bad review. Failing multiple, consecutive drug tests and then claiming that the staff is incompetent is where this disease can take you. I am an alcoholic that has struggled for several years in an attempt to stay sober. I have been to multiple in-patient rehab facilities with Chapters being the most recent. My purpose of this review is to give an honest assessment of Chapters so that you can decide if it is the right place for you. Chapters is unique to all of the other treatment centers that I have been to in the past. It is by far the most "comfortable" facility that I have been to which makes it a good choice for those worried about leaving the comfort of their own home. Most of the rooms are private which was crucial for me in order to do reading, writing, reflection, prayer, and meditation. The facility is a beautiful place and has a large deck area that overlooks the beach and the ocean. It was nice to be able to sit out back to relax on my downtime and a great place to do reading. Most importantly, Chapters is very clean and the staff did an excellent job of maintaining the house. I could go on about the quality of the facility, amenities, etc., but that's not the point - you can visit the website or call for that info. I went to Chapters to get help for a disease that was about to take my life. The schedule and activities at Chapters are different from the other facilities that I have been to. Chapters focuses on quality not quantity. They didn't overload me with a bunch of information that is hard to relate to life and recovery. Very direct and to the point which was what I needed to work on the mental aspect of the disease. One on one therapy was also very beneficial to me. The therapist is very well-educated and intelligent, as she should be, but most importantly a person that I felt a tremendous amount of trust with. For the physical part, they take you to an off-site gym every morning M-F that offers anything you could think of. The gym is awesome and probably one of the nicest I've ever been in. Chapters also offers a Yoga class on Mondays that is great. Chapters works really well for individuals that are motivated to get recovery. The flexibility and freedom help make it a unique facility. It provided me with a realistic program of recovery and was a good balance between scheduled activities and time to work on myself. They allow more time to yourself than most other treatment centers which was very important to me. On the flip side, this is NOT the best fit for someone who needs a very regimented and structured program. But that is what makes Chapters unique and it is my hope that they do NOT gravitate towards more structure, making it like all of the "other" treatment centers. read more

In all honesty Chapters Capistrano saved my life. I walked in the door a broken person and with the help of the staff I live a life of sobriety. They showed me that getting sober isn't just about putting down the drink or substance.. but that its about a new blueprint for life. I've been through hell and back and I've been to other treatment centers with no success. Day by day my sobriety grows and I am living proof that the program at Chapters Capistrano works. Can I live here permanently? I felt so safe, I was fed amazing food, met some really neat people that I will forever hold close to my heart. I owe my sobriety to this place. This was the perfect stepping stone for me to get the help I desperately needed. I was in denial for so long and I never could commit to treatment until my mom called Chapters. When I was choosing a place to help me with my future I was focused on a place that would help me build my strength, my self-respect and my autonomy, without pulling punches. I have been to 12-step only programs. They left me feeling angry, resentful and unfulfilled. Chapters have 12 step programs but they also had alternatives. The non 12 step programs at Chapters were a welcome respite for me. After alcohol dependency, discipline and abstinence may be necessary but permanent dependence of another kind is what 12 steps have always seemed to me. I am grateful that Chapters let me do it in a way that can work for me. At the time that I was there I think I was helped in some way by the sheer beauty of the place. It was comforting that Chapters is one of the most beautiful settings possible. The houses, the views, the interior, were all so peaceful and rewarding. At Chapters, I felt rewarded for my decision to move forward with my life rather than punished for the sins of my past. For me, a positive place was an environment which was more likely to get me to the desired result. A facility can be a place that focuses only on "the problem". At Chapters there was a time for focus on the problems, but there was time for health and healing, and not in a phony spiritual way, but in a method that was grounded in everyday life. We went to the gym to build our bodies; yoga and but there was also time for outings and reflection. I enjoyed the counseling, and I at times I was frustrated or angry, but it always felt honest and real world, like the everyday life I had before alcohol consumed me. I have been to other facilities. I got more out of Chapters because it was not scripted and regimented. The people who worked there clearly cared about us. I remember one or two people on the staff that I did not bond with while I was there, but when I look back I remember them favorably, and as time goes by I have more and more difficulty remembering why I had negative feelings at the time. I'm sure that the difficulties that I had relating to some of the staff were part of the pain of the recovery process. By the time I left Chapters, there was not a single employee that I did not consider to be a friend. I was able to stay for more than 30 days, and I was lucky in that regard. If it is really time for someone to get their future back, I think that a stay of more than 30 days can be what it was for me. Of course there are times when recovery is difficult but no one ever promised me that it was going to be easy. Chapters was able to provide a non-threatening environment to help me get through the difficult times. In my life, opportunity has knocked more than once, but I didn't answer the door. In the past when there was a knock on my door sometimes I did not hear the knock; sometimes I thought I heard, so I opened the door, but opportunity was not there. I was very fortunate to have found Chapters. Their approach to recovery was outstanding. Their location on the beach in San Clemente offers a peaceful and serene setting for healing. The staff is very attentive to all client needs. In addition, the staff was very friendly. I will be friends with them for life. The clinical staff was a good as it gets. They want you to recover. They encourage you every step of the way. Individual therapy, with Deborah, was the best I've had in my life. I am 64 and I stayed 90 days. I highly encourage anyone who can stay that long to do so. I spent three weeks at Chapters in the fall of 2015 and loved almost every minute of it. It was the perfect facility for me to get the help I needed to get my drinking under control and I specifically chose it because it was a non-12-step, holistic, dual-diagnosis treatment center. I have absolutely no issues with any of the staff at Chapters -- they were wonderful! -- with the exception of three things: 1) Do not believe them when they tell you that yes, your insurance will cover everything. The admissions counselor is lying. I thought it was the truth until I got a bill from them seven months after I left. It was a significantly smaller amount than the whole ride would have cost, but I still wasn't prepared for it and felt like I'd been "baited and switched". I find it unconscionable that an organization like this would manipulate people in such a way when we are in desperate need. 2) This same admissions counselor accepted an individual into the program while I was there who should have been kicked out because of his behavior and unwillingness to participate. He was verbally abusive to other clients in his house, among other things (like constantly talking about how to do drugs and not bothering to show up for group), and never should have been allowed to stay. This is supposed to be an EXECUTIVE-level treatment facility, after all, and is one of the main reasons most of us choose such a facility. That's also why it's priced the way it is! His presence had a hugely negative impact on the rest of the clients in the house and the admissions counselor seemed more concerned about getting the money (see insurance comment above) than the safety of the residents of the program. 3) I was in the Pool House. We met frequently for sessions and activities with clients in The Beach House. While I was there the staff seemed not only to be aware of, but to facilitate and encourage fraternization (to the point of sleeping together) between two married clients (as in married to other people). Bottom line: your success at Chapters is going to depend on your comittment and preparedness to be there, and your willingness to do the work, but it also is going to be the luck of the draw in terms of who else is a client at the same time. 90% of my experience was very positive, but the issue with being billed is leaving a bad taste, as did the acceptance of a very inappropriate client towards the end of my stay. My advice is: "get it in writing" if the admissions rep tells you everything will be covered by your insurance. Read the documentation for admittance carefully, and understand your insurance plan! read more

I attended chapters twice and have been to many other facilities. It is by far the most professional and efficient treatment I ever received. the staff is beyond loving and friendly I built relationships that I will cherish the rest of my life. There program is very well ran and organized. They educate you on every side of addiction and give you every tool that you could need to succeed in the real world. The best part is if you are close by and complete there program successfully you can come back as alumni for groups at no cost. They are always arms wide open to see you come back and share your experience on staying sober. I have never felt so comfortable at a rehab. I stayed as long as my insurance would let me which was around 2 months. those 2 months saved my life. They assist you in outside medical issues and are always supporting you in your decisions with honest feedback. I have personally seen them work with people when there is payment issues and they never kick you to the curb, unless you were being really obnoxious. Even then they still try and help you find a facility that will best suit you. I could never say anything bad about this program and would recommend it to anyone who is really serious about recovery. Do not go here if your just looking for an oil change. This is serious people looking to work towards a better life. It is very small tight knit family and you will cherish every memory from chapters. read more

I recently had to deal with my boyfriend going to rehab. I had call elite rehab and spoke with Rebecca who was so helpful and made the processes painless. She then got to place him in to a fabulous treatment center where we got to stay in touch but he got the help he needed which was most important. I highly recommmend this place. read more

After agreeing on a price for treatment to begin. Their sales guy Chad was texting and calling me nonstop after I had already committed to going to their rehab. He was disrespectful and insulting. When I arrived there, everyone painted on a smile for my family but when my family left, their whole game changed. The house is ran by all self-proclaimed ex-addicts (doubtful). While this was one of the most expensive treatments and NOT AFFORDABLE...they will try to convince you insurance covers them. I assure you mine did not and no right minded insurer would so be prepared to get hooked for every penny. During my stay I was told that some of the morning group excercises were not optional, different from what they stated. When I refused to go to the early morning USELESS group meeting, they took my computer and cell phone. When I would go out, the staff would ask/pressure me to buy their food/drink, earrings, etc. I stayed for 10 days and on the last morning rudely was waken up at 6:00am. They said there was another facility that was partnered with their business and better catered to my needs, they said we've arranged a ride for you to check it out and if you don't like it just come on back! I asked if the 10days I spent would count toward a month treatment at this facility as time is precious. I drove 50 miles to Costa Mesa and was told upon further review, by Chad, that I could not go back to Chapters even though he said an hour prior that it would be fine. Then they also added that my 10 days would not count. So, Chapters wasted 10 days of my life that I will never get back and STILL CHARGED ME A FORTUNE! Be prepared for shady business, disrespect, and emotional bullying. not even one star. read more

I cannot even begin to thank this place enough for how much they have helped my wife. She has been struggling with alcohol addiction since we got married back in 2004, it progressively got worse, she never did any type of inpatient, she did some outpatient bs and went to AA meetings which were completely ineffective, in fact it caused her to try and hide her addiction from me even more. We planned a big family intervention which Allison from Chapters was so kind to help me plan it out perfectly. She finally agreed to get help. She ended up loving the program, it was tailored to fit her needs perfectly, they did a safe detox which she said they made her feel comfortable and they provided her with a lot of privacy. She had her own private room. I was able to skype with her during therapy sessions which have been very helpful in our marriage. We were encouraged to continue on with marriage counseling when she got back from treatment, which we followed through with. I think Chapters is a great program, they answered all my questions thoroughly and me me feel very comfortable about my wife being far from home for 30 days (we live in Boston and Chapters is in California). She also found a new passion with yoga which I think has been very beneficial in her sobriety. We are taking it one day at a time, addiction is never easy to overcome not matter what program you do. I contacted Marvin about his program.i really didn't want to go to another program because I have had negative results.well I got talked into coming into their program .I needed to detox I sign in and was admitted during my detox Monday rolled around then all sudden Marvin said my benefits would not cover my stay.I ask to speak patient advocate or if their was a cash paying option.He was cold I was detoxing told me I have one hour to vacate the premises..I asked could they help me find an alternative program he reply was they are not a referral service. I ask could he drive me to hospital he said he was a taxi..My life was put in jeopardy just for money.My insurance said they would of worked with them and they lied. They only called getting outpatient benefits...I nearly died ended up in Er p.please keep your love ones away from this place.It in my opinion a health hazard to the public.I have hired a lawyer and starting process of filing a law suit and charges. I've called multiple times also because I have legal information left their papers and tapes because going through a divorce. They will not answer my call or verify they will send my things to my home.I called the authorities and LA prosecutors office they knowing put my life in danger. I have a meeting with an investigator this week..Its all about one thing in my opinion money ..Susan Shea hides behind a bunch of worthless phone numbers and from Marvin is the one that kicked me out because of my insurance. the reasoning behind my departure makes no sense...I'm concerned for others in my situation or seeking help ... I checked into San Juan Capistrano with a long term opioid and alcohol addiction. It was the best decision I ever made. From the person in admissions (Rebecca) who understood my urgency and got me immediately admitted to the staff (Natalie,Stacy, Irving, Domenic and James), nurses, doctors and therapists, I was given outstanding care. They monitor your vitals constantly during detox to make sure you are healthy and make you as comfortable as possible. Not saying detox is easy, but the staff makes sure you are hydrated and eating and they truly seem to care about you. Since it is a small facility of 6 patients, the interpersonal care was outstanding. The holistic approach of healing through diet and exercise and therapy were critical to my recovery. They even catered to my dietary needs to the best of their ability. I was worried about choosing the right rehab facility and I know I did. I was in terrible shape when I arrived and they not only helped me get clean but made sure I had a long term recovery plan in place. I know this is a lifelong disease but thanks to Chapters I have the tools to stay sober. I can never get over confident but I have been clean and sober since leaving over 6 months ago. My daughter's experience at Chapters early 2016 was excellent. She stayed 60 days and through all that time had nothing bad to say about them. Above all they have a caring staff that knows how to help an addicted person in the best possible way. Honestly, that was our experience, excellent staff including great counselors, day staff, cooks and Marvin who did intake was such a great help all the way. My daughter wished she could continue with the counselors after she left there. I feel we were blessed to find this place, it's a rare find. The accommodations are extremely nice, comfortable and have all the amenities you could want. I have no motivation to tell you this except that it's a shame if this place doesn't survive or loses any clients due to any bad reviews because I saw nothing but the best there. She was supposed to go to the beach house but it was full when she got there and could've moved but decided she liked the other "pool house" better after she was there anyway. My daughter unfortunately had a relapse and wanted to go back there. Sadly, there were some changes with how her insurance was paying and she couldn't go back. As much as I wish she could go there I can't blame them for wanting to be paid for services, how else could they offer such great services if they weren't paid?? Still, when my daughter has a hard day, I say remember the tools you learned at Chapters and in minutes she can turn things around for the better. Don't hesitate, this is a GREAT place! read more
