A regular spot in our date night rotation. Their deluxe sashimi platter is a must for us . Consistently a fresh assortment of fish! Their rolls are always consistent & tasty too. Service was prompt, and servers were attentive to our needs :) We will be back in the future for sure.

This is a great little hidden gem in the bonnie doon area. I stumbled upon an ad that they were giving 40% off the menu back in December. At first I was skeptical but decided to give it a try and if I didn't like it then at least it was cheap. I am SO thankful I gave them a chance! They are easily one of my top sushi places in town. I have since been back 6 times and have recommended it to several people. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The rolls are a good size compared to other places I've been to that charge much more. Since the location is a bit out of the way it is never busy as other places that are downtown or in the middle or whyte.

Soban reopened after renovations back in November 2021. The inside is spacious and there are lots of seating. We tried the following foods: -Chop Chop Slider $9-I haven't seen a crispy rice slider before so this was quite unique. Presentation was nice and chop chop was good -Red Hot Chill Roll $14-fish was fresh and it was a delicious roll -Pressed Salmon Sushi $14-this was not bad but I've tasted better pressed salmon at other restaurants. It was missing a kick -Moto Negitoro $3.5-I really liked this seared chopped toro. It was soft and buttery -Al Bap (Fish Egg Don) $14-it came with miso soup and was very yummy. The dish was warm and all the ingredients were fresh. I thought the rice was on the sweeter side. Overall I had a decent experience here and prices were reasonable. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi place in Edmonton but worthwhile to try!

I really enjoy the food, service, and child friendliness we receive every visit. Soban's prices are actually pretty decent compared to the other sushi restaurants in the city. Their quality is on par if not better than most of their competitors as well. The prawn tempura have a nice batter that is fluffy yet crunchy. I think it could be taken out of the oil a few moments earlier to keep the prawns juicy. We usually get the chopped scallop roll and unagi eel roll which are both consistent and filling. Our bill for two adults usually comes to around $50 before tip.

The Soban underwent a change in ownership and recently opened with a brand new look, chef & menu a few months ago....and it's fabulous. I don't know what it used to look like inside, but I really like the clean lines and modern cozy vibes. The menu is a mixture of Japanese and Korean with a focus on reasonable prices, quality dishes & authentic tastes. The food is really good. Like, we were just there and I'm already looking forward to our next visit, good. We sampled from the Japanese dishes and were very impressed with the freshness of the sushi and sashimi. The house dressing on the garden salad, the vegetable fritters in the tempura basket, the sesame based sauce on the Tai Flower (think a delicate fish carpaccio). Big pieces of fish, beautiful presentation. We loved it all! Prices are indeed reasonable with lunch specials, but a la carte prices won't drain the wallet. The Korean food is good, again with dishes in the $15 range it's very well priced! A little tricky to get into the parking lot (can only enter/exit from one direction) but definitely worth checking out.

This is a great place for Sashimi, sushi, and other Asian cuisine. The service is great. Even though we showed up 45 minutes before closing time, the servers and chefs all welcomed us with smiling "hello"s. The restaurant dining area looked clean. The menu offered had gluten free, and vegetarian options. The food was quick to be brought out, and the plating was beautifully set up, making my taste buds water right away. We were offered Miso soup to start, which was delicious. I had the 15 piece Assorted Sashimi; and it was fresh, full of flavor, and surprisingly very filling. When we were about halfway through our meal, one of the cooks came out with a couple pieces of seared salmon steak to try; it was coated in a very flavorsome glaze... and definitely worth the experience! This is the second time I have been to this location, and both times I have been very satisfied with the visits. Great service; delicious food; surprised with extras... what else could a hungry belly ask for. I will go back again for sure!

This is such a cute restaurant! My relatives go here quite often for the sushi fix. There weren't too many people there when we went, but the workers were an old couple that was super adorable and friendly. We had a large party so we ordered a huge sashimi boat, beef tataki, and a bunch of assorted rolls. I remember the rolls were delicious -- sweet and savory. The salmon sashimi was buttery and fresh, all caught in Vancouver and imported over! But the thing that I loved the most was the beef tataki! The tangy ponzu sauce complimented that slightly seared beef and the raw onions gave it a nice bite. It was a great contrast to the sushi rolls' soy sauce flavor. After we were done, the workers helped us take pictures and a family photo as well. The experience was amazing and I understand now why they love to come here

Downgrading to 2 stars. Food quality and selection has noticeably decreased, such that I think we will not return. Processed cheese slices in a $16 sushi roll is enough for me to call it quits. Gross. Avoid the "Japanese" menu. What's left of the Korean menu is your better option. I predict Soban will close in the next year.

Came here after work with my husband and toddler son. We usually try the same things at different sushi restaurants. We can usually tell right away if we will likely come back. The dishes were beautifully plated. The shrimp tempura pieces were hot, large, crispy and with just a touch of sweetness. The Chop Chop roll is one of our favourite go to dishes and this one didn't disappoint. The Unagi Double Double satisfied our cravings for Unagi. Can't complain! The dishes here are great quality and they taste as good as they look! I totally recommend!

Fantastic! This place is definitely worth the visit. I haven't tried everything on the menu but everything I've had has been great. Their miso soup is the best I've ever had.

Came here on a Saturday night with a big group of people for a joint birthday party for friends. There was about 20-ish of us, with only one server serving all of us. With only one other party in the restaurant, I can sympathize the server that had to deal with serving a LOT of people by themself. I believe this used to be Sakana sushi? and it turned into Soban. Its a regular sushi spot, with a fusion of korean food. A friend and I decided to share the soban couple platter, which came with a choice of any sushi roll, a plate of bulgogi, an assortment of tempura, as well as one serving of rice, which came to about 34 dollars. The bulgogi wasn't something to write home about, as it tasted like any other restaurant's bulgogi. For our sushi roll of choice, I picked the crunch roll which was shrimp, cucumber, tempura crunch, drizzled with spicy sauce (sriracha mayo?) It was a good roll, but I found it to be a bit too sweet. The tempura was battered well, with 2 pieces of prawn tempura and the rest to be vegetable. We also had to order an extra bowl of rice since we thought the couple platter would come with two bowls of rice, not one. For the amount of food you get, the soban couple platter is worth the amount you pay. If you were to order each item separately, it wouldn't be worth the money. I'm definitely hard to please, and super picky, but the food was okay. Given that the service was a little slow considering there was a large amount of us, this place is somewhere good for a first date.

Atmosphere is relaxed and minimalistic with a great chill vibe. Service is okay but I would say that all the times I have been there, the staff have not been super welcome or friendly. And this day was super busy, a Friday night and I don't think they had enough staff for the tables. Our dishes came by slowly which was fine because we were visiting with friends but don't expect to fly in and out. This is the one thing they can improve on. Luckily the food makes up for it. We ordered a bunch of things to share. The standout was the black cod with the miso marinade and the amazing selction of the Japonais Premium Select. A HUGE amount of rolls, sushi and sashimi. Definately worth the money if you are fine with the chef doing the choosing. Everything was super fresh. The only thing I think was just average was the tempura. It was no difference than the other places I have been to. Really worth making the reservation for, just keep in mind you may need to wait.

This is my second time to Sushi Toshi, the all-you-can-eat sushi (and other foods) Japanese…read morerestaurant. I have ordered sushi rolls, nagiri, sashimi, maki and a temaki (cone). I ordres an assortment of them - red snapper, tuna and salmon for the sushi, California and Alberta rolls, and tempura shrimp cone. This time around I ordered the beef tataki, stir fried udon with chicken, miso soup and the 6 oz steak (for this one, a hot stone is brought to your table and you sear the steak on it; sauce are also available for this dish). I had green tea to drink and had green tea ice cream for desert. Service was very good and rapid, and very attentive and polite. And after our dinner, this place will be pretty difficult to beat. We came here for our anniversary dinner. My boyfriend put in a reservation earlier, and once we arrived we were seated pretty quickly. It was a Monday night but I was so surprised at how packed the place was. This was our first time here so the server explained how ordering on the slip works. Wait time wasn't terrible. And like I mentioned before, this place was so packed and full of people. All the servers that night were weaving through aisles, delivering food, and taking orders. They were all hustling. Food was delicious. We started off with a couple of rolls like California Rolls, Avocado, Tuna, Salmon, and Tamago. The sushi rolls were pretty small, but I didn't have a problem with it. Since it's AYCE, I knew that we'd have much more food coming. I was very impressed by the quality of fish. It tasted very fresh. Also we ordered the seared Beef Nigiri and that was delicious. We ended up ordering more of that later. For the next round, we ordered Edamame, Beef (? it was like a beef galbi cut but I forgot the name of it on the menu), Chicken Skewers, Green Onion Cake, and Tempura. For our Tempura veggies we chose pumpkin, yam, and eggplant. I loved the tempura. It was definitely a highlight of the night. The batter was very crispy, light, and all the tempura came out hot. It was wonderful. We ended up getting more after the first round of tempura because it was too good. The Chicken Skewers were phenomenal. My boyfriend and I were saying that if we had the Chicken Skewers with rice, that would just be enough. The flavor of the sauce was great: savory, slightly sweet, it was reminiscent of a teriyaki flavor for me. And lastly, we had the BC Roll, Alberta Roll, Crunchy Roll, Philadelphia Roll, the seared Beef Nigiri again, and a few other rolls. At this point of the dinner we barely had any steam left but somehow we managed. Every single we thing we ate was just amazing. I wasn't disappointed by anything we ordered actually it was just great. I will say the Crunchy Roll had this smokiness that scratched my brain in the best way possible and I was so impressed by that bite. This was such an unforgettable experience and the best place we've spent our anniversary haha. 10/10, take my money. To Sushi Toshi, I'll be thinking about you.
