The museum has two floors and has an elevator. They have an array of learning and interactive opportunities. You can find a list of days and times on their website! When we were there we got a chance to learn about music and the kids got to play some instruments. The museum is very inclusive and friendly! They offer sensory kits at the front desk if needed too! According to their website the "kits include noise reduction headphones, a weighted vest and suspenders, emotion recognition flashcards..." All the team members we have encountered have been kind and helpful! My only comment of suggestion would be for a little more adult seating in some of the "middle sections" of the museum. There are a few spots all along the walls but not much towards the middle. I understand it creates more opportunities for grownups to get involved with the kids too but for those of us with disabilities that need a minute to catch our breath it was difficult to find a spot close to where my kids were. Lots of interactive play and many memories made here! I highly suggest visiting. The rate to visit is $12 per person but they offer many types of discounted rates for different reasons. All rate information is available on their website. Parking can be a challenge as they do not have their own parking structure and the closest parking is side street meter parking that you can pay using the parking app. They do not validate parking.

I visited with a tween and teenager, so we were definitely a little older than the target age. That said, my children had a great time! I had to practically pull them away when it was time to leave. When we arrived, we were told to explore and "follow our hearts" around the museum. I loved that! This children's museum really encourages self-directed play, which is obvious by all of the fun, open-ended objects everywhere. You've got the giant blocks, magna-tiles, LEGO tables, pretend kitchen and house, and lots of other things. Both of my children gravitated to The Spin Zone, a three-tiered table that uses centrifugal force to power different objects. Upstairs, there's a bubble area, where you can create giant bubbles; a play house to pretend in; a train table to drive trains around; a makerspace to make stuff in; and an exhibit called Weathering Emotions, a walk-through spot where you can learn about and experience emotions. Some of these exhibits are permanent, and some are just visiting, so your visit might vary. I would say that the Grand Rapids Children's Museum is the perfect place for ages 2 to 10. Beyond that age, it's definitely fun, but it might not hold the attention of older kids. But that's OK! This children's museum is a space for the little kids, and that's perfect.

The carousel was fun, but I think I could have probably skipped it. The planetarium was really cool. It was kind of a "choose your own adventure" as we hopped around via audience input. We were slow to get started and finally arrived close to 230 on this day. Thanks to the reciprocal program of the Desert Botanical Garden (Phoenix, AZ), I was able to get complimentary passes to the Garden and only needed to pay an additional fee for the special exhibit. I would advise anyone wanting to visit this Garden to plan for 3-4 hours, at least, if they've not visited before. We took in a good amount of this place but I know we didn't see at least two (2) Chihuly pieces. It was already feeling like it was getting late and my friend was feeling tired. I will say when we made it to the parking lot the landscaping we observed in progress was completed and the parking lot more than half of the vehicles that were there when we arrived were now gone. The Garden is quite stunning and I'm glad we made the three (3) hour drive to visit. Wish i was closer. Certainly would be great to see in the different seasons. The Chihuly Exhibit greatly added to the sights. They were very well placed and certainly enhanced the mood, lending to the peace and serenity of some areas, whimsy to others. And the pictures we captured were all great keepers. And almost forgot to mention the wildlife. Bees, Dragonflies, Groundhog(s), Cranes. It was a lot of walking as the grounds are expansive. There are gardens inside also. English gardens. Dessert gardens. Rainforest climates. Complete with giant palm trees, beautiful plants, & even birds. The glass sculptures were amazing. Huge & beautifully arranged. The Chihuly exhibit was there for a limited time. There are also a lot of permanent art sculptures that were so unique. There is a restaurant here also. We had the ice cream at the cute little cafe outside. Lots of restrooms available.

There are several small lakes, one of which has a beach and other activities such as paddle boats. There are two different entrances to the park, which helps spread visitors out on really busy days like weekends. On the Secchia Meadows side, there is a nice pavillon where my friends had their wedding. I highly recommend Millennium Park for anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors, spotting creatures such as deer, turtles, muskrats, eagles, and more.

What a beautiful day! But I wonder how often people fall into the lake. I also wonder how deep the lake is. I also wonder if it's possible to be trapped underwater if your kayak flips over. In the end, I decided to kick it on the sandy beach and wave at my family as they happily paddled on the lake. They had a great time kayaking. I had a great time not kayaking. Like Hot Chocolate says: Everyone's a winner, baby. Kayaks are either single-person or double, and we used one of each. There are very few instructions given, which was a little alarming to me. (You mean you just assume we know what we're doing?!) But fortunately, my family knew what they were doing, so they didn't need much instruction to get themselves out on the water. As you paddle around the lake, you pass the Millennium Park beach and splash pad, plus little islands here and there. There is about four miles of shoreline to explore. I was told that the lake was nice and calm, and that it was a pleasant time on the water. We rented kayaks, but Millennium Park Boat Rentals also offers canoes, paddle boats and stand-up paddle boards to rent. Keep in mind that rentals are seasonal -- this place is only open from Memorial Day-ish to Labor Day-ish.

Its extremely low staff and the staff that is there is so unhappy. They are all over worked and exhausted. It's kind of insane how different things appear when a parent is coming or person that works from the corporate office! They will literally call the classrooms of whomever is expecting a parent or person from corporate to warn them and send over other teachers just in case they need help to get back in to order. Negligence towards the children's needs is seen here a lot and different forms of abuse. As a parent: A teacher had told me that my child was put out side a few days prior without gloves or anything and cried the whole time because she was so cold. ( the main teacher never once told me this even when I asked them how her day was going one hour after) Even though I was there at work the teachers said they couldn't let me know because they were already outside. Which one is a lie, and two I'm not sure if this is because of the uneducated of the teachers but honestly it wouldn't take a very highly educated person to find more than one solution to this problem. They acted like it wasn't a big deal. I then realized they always put kids outside and if they don't have proper attire or make sure to put their attire on "sometimes they can't look at all the kids" - what I was told. They say it's not that big of a deal.. um it IS! These are little babies and children. It's unacceptable to have a daycare that their ONLY job is to take care of children and they literally lack in that.. and other kids in other classrooms that I had been with the other teachers would reinforce that and say oh it's fine they can go outside- no it's 32 outside.. they NEED proper attire.. Another thing is from working here I realized if the kids don't have proper sleeping sheets and blankets the kids will be put just in the cot and expected to sleep comfortably and has to sit there and be quiet for the two hours or more... now how would that be comfortable? Or even makes sense. As a teacher: The rules here for the kids I almost laughed when I first heard them because it's so asinine. One rule about when the kids are eating ( the parents are paying for food it's built into the extreme high amount of money it costs to go here) a child can only get about a quarter of a cup of milk, and if the kid spills it at all on accident they can't get anymore because they want to teach them about how milk is expensive. And somehow Appletree that literally brings in over a million dollars can't afford more than a gallon of milk a month.. Yes maybe they kind of seems like someone is trying to teach a good point, but these are little babies! They all spill stuff all of the time and then you're going to hurt their little egos by saying "no I don't care if you accidentally spilled your milk you get no more... " like What?? it's SO sad.. I spill things some times I don't expect someone to say to me oh well you aren't allowed to drink that ever again. Oh but if a directors child or a parent who works at corporate child does it they are allowed as much as they want, as the same for food too, If those kids get hungry they can have more snacks but any other kid - nope! Not allowed at all just have to tell them sorry no YOU can't get any... Little kids are human too and they are not treated nicely at all there. Another thing I learned is the teachers talk about the kids, yes that's expected but they talk SO bad about some... like this kid is ugly. This one is evil. This kid I can't stand. I hate this kid. This one will have this disorder when they are older.. and they say it in FRONT of the kids . That is emotional abuse.. First off- Uneducated teachers who have little experience and schooling. The teachers would be very unhappy from feeling like staff didn't care about them and how they are very VERY underpaid. Most teachers seemed to be here because they didn't know where else to work, which is kind of mind blowing and highlights the fact of uneducated..from working here you don't need experience, nor do you need to be educated at all. And everyone is payed minimum wage.. Very unacceptable to how they handle kids behind closed doors. The staff seems very friendly too but unfortunately they all dislike one another and the directors. All they do is gossip about one another and complain about everything. Also, another thing that was shocking is that they do not have a proper cleaning company, like say at a school that has a janitor or custodial person. The teachers are responsible to clean all of the classrooms at the end of the night and mop the floors with old mops that have to be at least 10 years old and old vacuums that are about the same.

We are greeted each day with warm smiles from ALL of the staff, who truly make us feel welcome, and that our daughter is genuinely cared for. She is excited to go to "school" each day, loves her teachers and friends there, and she's learned SO much! At almost 2.5 years old, she has quite the vocabulary (favorite saying of the moment: "It's aMAzing!"), knows most of her shapes and colors, can recite her abc's, and count past 10, and comes home every day, having learned something new. The center itself is beautiful, very clean and organized, with a wide variety of age-appropriate toys and a super fun playground, split into two sections for the younger and older kids. The administrative staff are very friendly, quickly respond to any questions or needs we have, and do a great job keeping the parents up to date on the various happenings at the center.
