Tess World Designs is a new shop in Decatur dedicated to African fabric and accessories. Due to…read moretheir success on Etsy, they recently made the leap to brick and mortar. They're located in the downtown shopping district, about a five minute walk from the Decatur MARTA Station. The bold patterns and pops of color in the window caught my eye as I was driving down E. Ponce de Leon. I circled back, parked on the street and went inside to explore. They have a variety of merchandise: African print fabrics Masks and wood pieces Woven bowls Jewelry Purses, backpacks and sandals Wraps and scarves Kente and Greek graduation stoles A few racks are filled with ready-made men's and women's clothing but fabric is really their forte. Hundreds of beautiful swatches line the walls. Most prints are $7 a yard but the silks go for $12.50 a yard. Since I haven't ticked "learn to sew" off my bucket list yet, I felt in over my head looking at all that cloth. Fortunately, they have contact info for seamstresses so once I have a pattern I can choose the fabric and get something made. It might make sense for them to sell patterns but since they don't I'll need to find one elsewhere. Anyway, I left with a cowrie shell necklace for the boy and two pieces of jewelry for myself. I loved several of their fabrics and hope to be back for one soon. Tess World Designs is a great addition to the Decatur shopping district.

I know, it was my fault for not looking into before I purchased, but, I hope that the manager could have talked to us and appease me and my hubby to be, the item we bought was not a piece of joke for that worth of money. I was really sad about my wedding dress. Ended up, returning it, and getting two dresses, one very simple wedding dress and a dress I do not need, since they do not want to give pur money back! I wasn't even able to reach the original price, which is higher. So, I have big credit with them, which I was not able to use! Since, they do not want to give my money back!

I took the dress I paid $170 to have altered to another seamstress for a second opinion, and I was…read moreshocked. She told me that almost none of the work I was promised had actually been done. On the day of my event, the dress was still so loose in the bust that I had to wear a bra underneath it because it did not fit properly. I was charged $25 for bra cups and another $20 just to have them stitched in, which the new seamstress said amounted to only a couple of simple stitches. I genuinely have no idea what the remaining money was for because there was virtually no alteration work done. I strongly recommend not using this store's alteration service. The seamstress was rude, rushed every appointment, unprofessional, and completely dismissive of my concerns. After paying $170, I expected my dress to fit correctly. Instead, I had to pay someone else to fix what should have been done the first time. This was an incredibly disappointing experience, and I feel I was charged for work that was never performed.

To make a long (and annoying) story short -- I got the dress more than two months later. It was not altered. It had unfinished seams. It looked like a 5th grader had sewn it.
