Our snowmobiling adventure in Mammoth was an absolute blast and easily one of the highlights of our trip. From the start, our tour guide K made the experience feel personal and relaxed. He encouraged us to go at our own pace, which made the ride much more enjoyable and comfortable. K really went above and beyond to make the tour special. He took photos of me and my girl throughout the trip so we could focus on enjoying the moment instead of worrying about capturing it ourselves. Our family had a magical time riding around the snowy mountains with our tour guide Rick! We would 100% do this again.

Amazing tour. Super convenient across from Mammoth Mail Lodge and next door to Mammoth Mountain Inn. Made reservations for an 830AM tour and greeted with blue skies and moderate temps. We started right on time and started with a short safety video. Then it was out to be assigned a sled and orientation with a quick check out. Then onto a series of groomed FS trails. We lucked out and everyone managed to maintain pace so we didn't have a lot of stopping required. If someone in the group is afraid or in poor control then I recommend riding double with someone who is more comfortable. Once at the open area you're welcome to swap drivers Because the ride out was at a reasonable pace, once we reached the meadow we had plenty of time to ride. *NOTE* Don't expect to be ripping thru powder and sailing off cliffs. They have a decent sized flat track to race around and a few nearby trails which is perfect for newcomers. We then moved on to a scenic location where more pictures could be taken. The trail back we all road a little faster as the group became more capable and confident. These types of tours are all about how organized the operator is. Sometimes it's like herding cats and you barely make it out the gate. I thought our guide Kristina did amazing keeping everyone moving at a good pace. Definitely recommended! read more

It was a great experience and a lot of fun. Our guide, Kay, was very friendly and did an excellent job at helping out beginners but also giving a chance for you to open up a bit. There was also an oval track that you stop at from the trails where can 'race'. It was a lot of fun! FYI, the parking can be kind of hard to find. Had the absolute best time with Snowmobile Adventures this past week! We picked a great day to go... fresh snow, blue skies, and no snow on the mountain (the wind got to it before we did). The staff here were super helpful and nice - very accommodating. We felt very safe with them. We arrived and got princess parking at Main Lodge (included w/ ticket) which made snowboarding later that day even easier! You walk up to a trailer area and meet the guides. After signing some forms you watch a safety training video outside...then you do a practice lap on the sleds to make sure you get the hang of it. Once your group and guide are ready to go, you take off on a slow 1.5 trail... the guide will periodically look back at you and make sure you are OK. Once you get past this short piece, you get to go deeper into the forest with your guide. You explore back country trails which are well maintained by the snowmobile folks and mammoth mountain. You get to see incredible scenery you'd never see on a snowboard. My favorite part was ripping up hill - it gave: "ATV, but way sicker." Bring / Wear: -Waterproof, warm snow clothes - Neck gator -Goggles -Snow gloves / mittens -Waterproof, snow boots -Cash or Card for Tip ($20-$40 per snowmobile) Leave Behind: -Your snowboard/ski helmet (they give you a DOT one) -Wrist guards (you'll need the mobility) -Headphones -Excess things Tips/Tricks: -Stay on the right side of the trails -Easy on/off the throttle and brake -Lean your body into the turns -Take turns slowly -Stay on trail especially when there is a ton of fresh pow (tempting not to though!!) -Scheduling on a weekday costs less than a weekend I booked a 10am tour for my best friend's birthday. Unfortunately, our tour got cancelled due to weather (trees on the trail and insane wind). They gave us a personal call to apologize but we we're able to reschedule through Mammoth's call center for the next day. We got SUPER lucky and ended up with basically a private tour with Kehulu. He was super chill, safe, and fun. Not sure if he was blowing smoke, but he showered us with praise for how we rode for our first time. He took us deep into the forest so we could see the Inyo Craters, climb some hills, and rip around 2 playgrounds (tracks). My best friend and I could not stop smiling. I'd highly recommend trying to go for a private tour if the opportunity presents itself - that way the guide can feel out how you're riding / what your interests are and cater to you. I'd like to give a special thanks to Scotty, Damon, & Kehulu for ensuring that we had a great experience. Now I want to move to the mountains to become a snowmobile guide lmao. read more

Beautiful trails you ride on, through the trees and open fields. The playground was an absolute blast, they let you go around an oval as fast as you want in safely manner. Make sure you dress warm, especially first thing in the morning, it gets cold out there. The sleds have hand warmers, that work fairly well but your thumbs will still get cold to the point they feel like they will fall off lol. The later sessions are not as bad. After that we went on a really beautiful track through the forest. The scenery was awesome. My hubby & I went to Mammoth for a little getaway for some relaxation but wanted to have a little fun. I've always wanted to go snowmobiling & mentioned it to my hubby so we went to check them out when we first arrived. They tend to book weeks in advance but were lucky enough to get in on Sunday, our last day there. We got there early on Sunday & watched the safety video. Kevin helped get us into helmets & googles before heading to the snowmobile. He ended up being our guide and he was absolutely phenomenal. He took us out for such a great ride. Our snowmobile's handlebars were running really hot and we let Kevin know. His concern and attention to safety was amazing. He radioed that he needed another snowmobile & one of the other guides rode one out to switch it out! It made the ride so much more comfortable. We had a great time in the open field riding around and then he took us to a beautiful spot where we took pictures. They came out so awesome that it almost looked like a backdrop. This is a must-do in mammoth and the highlight of our trip. Our tour guide, Buck, was extremely professional and made our experience a blast! The rest of the staff was also very friendly, helpful, and informative. The entire ride was breathtaking from start to finish. Snowmobiles were relatively easy to maneuver, despite our worries about the wind that day. We spent about 5 min at each stop to explore and take photos. Definitely the perfect mix of adventure and scenery. I would suggest wearing an extra layer of warm clothes on the ride, as it can get pretty cold going through the trails. P.s. We had a tour today led by Andrew...and WOW!! He was amazing. He took a group of all different ability levels and merged us into a comprehensive group! I am not a daredevil and was pretty muchh terrified even though I had been on aa snow mobile before. He was patient and kind and made us all feel part of a team. He took us to gorgeous places for beautiful photos. When we took a snow mobile tour in Park City Utah is was just boring fields and no communication. This was our favorite thing we did in Mammoth. Make sure you call a few days ahead to reserve your snowmobile. We ended up extending our trip by a day because we called on the day we wanted to do it, and they only had one left for the following day. They are located right at the mountain at Main Lodge, in the parking lot of the Mammoth Inn. I appreciated that parking was free and convenient. You'll need to arrive about 45 minutes early to check in. It seems like a lot but the process takes a while once you fill out the forms, watch the safety video, answer a few questions about it, and get fitted for your helmet. I wish they had some helmets with GoPro attachments, but they couldn't find any. I wasn't nervous about it at all until I watched the safety video! But it does a good job of explaining everything, and then you ride on a short test course around some cones and you're off. FYI, it's harder than it looks! But awesome. We did the 1.5 hour tour, which is honestly just the right amount of time. 3 hours seems like it would be a lot. First you ride in a line throughout a trail. There were 9 snowmobiles on our tour, so not too many. After about 30 or so minutes, you get to an open area where you have probably 30 more minutes to ride to your heart's content. You can go as fast or slow as you want, loop around trees, and go up mountains. This was also a good opportunity to switch who was driving and who was passenger. After this, you'll get back on the trail and stop at the Inyo Crater for a short informative talk and photo op, then head back. Andrew was our guide, and he was friendly but also straightforward and a chill dude. We liked him. Be sure to bring some cash to tip at the end! I didn't think about this ahead of time, but luckily we had some on us. This is not a cheap activity but it's so worth it! read more

If you're thinking of a fun activity while visiting Mammoth Lakes, this should be at the top of your list, and Snowmobile Adventures is the place to make it happen. They have such a great staff, and I love how much they prioritize safety. Since it was my girl's birthday, I decided to rent separate snowmobiles so she could get the full experience. She loved it so much, that we may make this an annual thing. The snowmobiles used are of great quality, and they are fast as hell. During the guided trail, our guide kept us at a comfortable speed of 15-20mph, but when we arrived as a huge open section that was shaped like a circular track, he allowed us to let it loose. I'm not sure if he was supposed to do that because the group behind us just kept going on the normal trail, while we were hitting speeds close to 50mph on the circular track. Whether he was supposed to do it or not, I'm glad he did because that is what made it a 5 star experience for me. I was able to get my rush, while my girl kept getting lapped by everyone because she wanted to stay at 15mph lol. But that's the beauty of it! Our guide preached safety to us, then allowed us to have fun while at it. I feel so bad because I can't remember my tour guide's name, but he was awesome. He included himself in a couple of the pics he took of us. Super cool dude!!! read more

BEST experience ever!! My girlfriend took me here for my birthday. This was my first time snowmobiling, she had gone before in the past in Colorado. We both had a great time. We each got a single sled and did the 1.5hr tour. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our guide, Jon, was great always cracking jokes and making sure everyone had a great time. The staff was superb, 110% effort of their part, zero complaints on my end. Its also cool that they have their own private parking lot, so it doesn't matter how packed the mountain is, just go right in to the snowmobile parking area. Here is a brief rundown of the series of events you can expect. We meet up at the office, and get fitted for helmets. We go out to the parking area, and have an instructional meeting about the usage of the sled. Then off you go! You will first ride about 30mins on the groomed road through the trees. We then arrived at this very large untouched field, I mean 2ft of FRESH pow, not a single track in it. He let us loose to drive as fast and as freely as we want for 15-20mins. Then he took us back off the groomed road through the trees and back country. Then back to the office. The pace was perfect. Not too fast in the beginning so you can get used to the sled, but not too slow where it got boring. The guide would speed up and you would have to work to keep up so it kept things fun and exciting. My recommendations: 1. Bring a camera!! Or several, if everyone has one, better. 2. Wear your snow gear if you have them, pants, jacket, gloves, etc. Soft snowboard boots are good, hard ski boots are not. 3. If its sunny out wear your goggles or sunglasses, it will be bright at times. 4. Get a single sled for the best experience, and sit on it like a sport bike, not like a harley. Tuck your feet towards the back for maximum feel and control, plus not bumping your knees with the controls. Unfortunately, I didn't figure this part out until the trip was almost over. 5. If its your first time, take the 1.5 tour, the 3hr tour might be too long and overwhelming for first timers. Don't forget to get the hot chocolate at the end, its super tasty!! read more

WE HAD THE BEST TIME!! Took the 3 hour tour to get the most out of it and hell yeah we did. Our guide Yeeskah was informative, fun, and showed us awesome spots.The trails were absolutely gorgeous. It was both our first times riding a snowmobile and it will definitely not be our last. We both had our own snowmobiles and I for sure recommend your own for the full experience. Expensive but worth it. WARNING: it is physically demanding for sure. Your right thumb/palm will be sore and possibly cramp and your shoulders will be sore as well - I play ice hockey weekly and it was even tiring for me, haha. PRO TIP: Bring a Go-Pro if you can!
