The 100% chicken broth with 2-year barrel-aged soy sauce had a deep, savory flavor, with pork chashu, bamboo, spinach and soft-boiled egg bringing everything together. To wash it all down, we had the Mint Cucumber Yuzunade super refreshing, bright, and citrusy, and a great balance to all the rich flavors. My date and I went with the 13-item omakase dinner and sat at the sushi bar right in front of the chefs, which I think is the way to go for an experience like this. It was fun watching everything being prepared and having each piece served throughout the meal. Of everything we tried, the black cod was easily my favorite. It was so good that I had to order another one at the end. So technically, I guess I had the 14-item omakase. No regrets! Oshima is a pretty small and intimate restaurant, so I would recommend making reservations in advance. We booked ours through Yelp and were seated practically right away when we arrived. Parking was also easy. The restaurant is located in a small commercial strip center with plenty of parking available, so that wasn't an issue at all. Overall, I really enjoyed my first omakase experience. The sushi was fresh, sitting at the bar made the meal more enjoyable, and that black cod alone is enough to bring me back.
