I would not recommend this shop again. I wanted to buy some new ski boots after my trusty Salomon boots have finally given up the ghost. I went to Snow and Rock and I cant believe how badly I was treated. Staff who are more interested in talking amongst themselves, and only taking you seriously if you're a ski instructor, doing a ski season, or under 20 with a reasonable cleavage and long legs.
I was young once and do understand that my bunions and cold toes don't have the same fascination as a cute bum and blond wavy hair, but I would appreciate a little professionalism ! Being sidelined for 20 minutes and then told that I didn't warrant being fitted properly because I was only a recreational skier, and any soft wide boots would do, reeks of incompetence.
I blatantly did not buy my boots from Snow and Rock in High street Ken, but I did however try Elis Brighams who are next door. Their service was marginally better, but they did not have any boots in my size (how can this be , were in the middle of the ski season!). In exasperation I tried the new shop called Altimus. What a difference, I really did not expect their level of service. They were incredibly busy, but a young Kiwi lad saw I was looking, he explained that he wasn't an expert in boot fitting, but if I was happy to wait for a few minutes he would get a fitter to come and see me. Within 5 minutes their in- store podiatrist had come over sat me down and offered me a cup of tea whilst he finished with his existing customer. The examination he gave was exhaustive and informative (I didn't realize biomechanics was so important), after he had his data he inputted it into the data base which came up with 2 models. I eventually chose the Head version and so far so good. But the best thing about Altimus was the quality of their people, they really seemed to care. Well done Altimus, its about time Snow and rock had a bit more competition. read more
