I cannot say *enough* wonderful things about Snappa Charters and Captain Charlie! This was my first time out on a boat in about 7 years, and it was my first time snorkeling with sharks (and also snorkeling in general) ever. From the second we arrived at the dock, Charlie made my friend and I feel completely at ease. One of my favorite things about him is that you can tell from the minute you start talking to him that he's not out to exploit the sharks in any way. After tagging over 2,600 sharks, Charlie really just wants to share his knowledge with you and provide a deeper understanding of these animals. His heart is completely in the right place, and he is amazingly authentic and kind. And as for the actual shark-diving experience, it was genuinely one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life. We had EIGHT sharks around us total, and after a while, they came right up to us! I was nervous at first getting into the water, but after a while, you realize that the sharks are just more curious than anything and far more interested in the fish we were giving them. I could have stayed in the water ALL DAY. I would go back again in a heartbeat. Thank you, Charlie, for your kindness, patience, and natural teaching ability. Have done charter fishing in a lot of waters; Capt. Charlie is in thin company. My dude is among the best. He is in tune with the sea like a straight up Jack Sparrow of the sound! We legit were hooking into 2 and 3 fish on a single rig. I caught sport fish until my arms were tired. After an incredibly active morning we switched over to Black Sea bass and were hooking in left and right. His deck hand was supreme and attentive to keep lines in the water. On the boat ride back she cut the fish into filets and bagged em up! He also offers shark fishing, shark dives, champagne sunset tours and a plethora of other oceanic options. We had a great day touring And saw a Sunfish and 2 dolphins and a shark. We booked this trip as a whale watching tour but didn't see any whales at all. We stopped 20 minutes at the windmill farm even tho we asked not to stop because my daughter was seasick. When we arrived at Block Island we stopped and had a great hour there. Super day at sea, but upon arrival at the parking lot while putting our babies in car seats Captain Charlie accosted us demanding an additional $200. He is difficult to reach, hard of hearing and inappropriate. He was 40 minutes late and then wanted to charge us extra for staying an extra half hour iat Block Island. Nice boat, great day but NOT COOL to disrespect our families after the fact. We specifically discussed price with him and he either forgot or didn't hear properly. I do not recommend. read more

I've organized a blackfish charter every year with Charlie for the past 4 years, and I think you would be hard pressed to find a more enjoyable, professional, and courteous operation than Charlie's. We usually have a mixed group of anglers from experienced veterans to first-time beginners, and Charlie and his crew are adept at accommodating the entire spectrum. We have had some trips where we are catching non-stop all day and others where we need to work a bit more for the bites, but Charlie always gives you the best shot at going home with fillets. He also maintains an extremely clean and comfortable boat that's as seaworthy as any charter boat you will find in New England. I highly recommend the Snappa for any type of fishing trip you might be looking for in Point Judith, especially for blackfish in the fall. read more

I've chartered my fair share of boats and would not hire this guy after the way he treated my family (he was late, made everyone wait 30 minutes for him to show up, then after the charter concluded and he was given a cash tip he chased them down in the parking lot and stood behind their cars screaming and demanding more money or he'd call the cops). There are better ways to spend a thousand bucks in Newport. read more

I'm really disappointed in Captain Charlie Snappa Charters. We had a wonderful day on the boat, but at the end of the day he chased us into the parking lot and tried to charge us an additional $250 over what we agreed on. We had our four young children with us and he threatened to call the cops while we tried to have a very reasonable conversation and come to a solution. He was very hard of hearing (which is why there was a miscommunication to begin with), difficult to coordinate with, and I wouldn't recommend booking with him based on the super aggressive argument we had to end our beautiful day with. I'm just really disappointed that he doesn't value customer service. I thought he was a better guy and a better businessman. Leaves you feeling conned and taken advantage of. read more

Capt' Charlie has an extremely clean and nice boat. However like some earlier reviews stated his extremely bad hearing makes it almost impossible to coordinate. The night before our charter I reached out in order to see what time to be at the dock, what type of fish were biting recently, and any other information... Nothing besides be at the dock at 6 am. One of the members of my party was looking to catch tuna specifically, not at one point did Capt' say it's not the best time for tuna right now because of water temps. After trolling for tuna for nearly half of our day (5 hours) without a single bite or nibble, Charlie proposed shark fishing. We sat chumming the water for nearly an hour with 4 rigs set out, while one of us jigged. The only bite we had on the ENTIRE DAY Capt' decided to reel it up himself, only to realize after already bringing it along side the boat that not a single member of our party was able to fight a fish all day long. The deckhand was also very inexperienced (rookie) which made it extremely difficult for the boat to be ran efficiently as half of the time Charlie was down on the deck. I strongly advise spending your money with another captain. When we saw dolphins on the way back to the dock Charlie screamed "Whale breaching, whale breaching" then says a few seconds later "I should be charging you guys for whe watching." While some days on the water are more difficult than other, Charlie's overall effort to hooking us up with a fish was very low as well so I would not return. read more

I have been shark diving with Captain Charlie for over 20 years now. (I think my first trip on his boat was 1993 and I have been out at least 15 times). He is exceptionally good at finding the sharks and helping everyone on board to have a great day diving or snorkeling with Blue sharks and sometimes a Mako. It's an amazing experience. His boat is comfortable and large enough to handle offshore trips 20 miles out for pelagic sharks. The diving is shallow so a tank lasts a long time. You can dive in the cage or out if you prefer. Blue sharks are not aggressive at all, but curious and gentle. Once you do this, you will never look at sharks the same way again. read more

I can't say enough good things about Snappa Charters. Charlie took me and 12 of my closest friends for an amazing day out on the water. The day started off in a down pour and everyone was drenched from head to toe but that didn't stop the adventure. We headed out to Block Island with Charlie at the wheel and the first mate Lucus getting everything set up. Lucus was extremely helpful and knowledgable, some of my friends are avid fisherman and some are New Your City rats but by the end we were all accomplished fisherman!!! We had a great time everyone that wanted caught at least one big fish, some guys even caught two on one line (umbrella rig was cool to see in use.) The day ended with an amazing sunset as we headed back to Snug Harbor and everyone was happy especially the seagulls following the boat. I would recommend this charter to anyone looking to have a great time, learn some fishing tricks and most of all catch some big striper!! FISH ON!!!! read more

Charlie had no crew to help him for a Shark Tour for 12 people. He asked the guys to help chum, load & unload his gear all day. After about a 10.5-11 hour day when we got back to dock, he still insisted for us to load his gear onto his truck...RIDICULOUS!!!!....Then on top of that he asked for a 15-20% tip????....What a joke & un-professional businessman!! If he knew he had no crew, he should have called and cancelled the trip the night before & refunded. Or, he should have been thankful to the passengers for helping and offered something for their work, which we didn't have to do. Without the guys helping, there was no trip. He was ill-prepared, unprofessional and rude!! read more

I've been out with Captain Charlie numerous times for all different kinds of fish, and there's no better captain/boat in RI. The new boat is big, quiet (for a boat), and comfortable, and Charlie's experience/expertise is second to none. We've had great days catching blues, bass, blackfish, and fluke, and I think he's even better known for his shark business. He's great with the kids, and used to work for the fire dept, so we feel very comfortable out there with him. He really does go the extra mile (sometimes quite literally) to make sure everyone has had a good trip. Can't think of any better way to spend a day on the water than out on the Snappa. read more

I went on a Blue Shark cage diving trip on last Sunday. Captain Charlie had us on the sharks almost immediately, he was friendly and knowledgeable and everything about the trip exceeded my expectations. The sharks were with us almost the whole day, and we were free to interact with them as closely as we were comfortable (for me, it was mostly on The Snappa's custom-made viewing platform). I had no idea that a business like this existed in Rhode Island, but now that I know, I will certainly use Captain Charlie and The Snappa again! read more
