There are pros and cons to this place but overall I am enjoying my time here. The reason I changed gyms was because I moved and Planet Fitness was a bit too far of a drive considering I have so many other choices close by. So I chose this one. It's close to work, I can walk to it afterwards and that was the main reason I decided to come here. It moved locations so it's closer and from what I have heard it is bigger. When I first went to sign up, there was a male trainer there who showed me around- super nice and friendly, walked me around and answered my questions. The front desk reception didn't seem to pay much attention and was training someone else to get be signed up. There are classes during the week for yoga and core and weight lifting upstairs. It has a decent amount of machines and for the most part, clean. I never really see them cleaning anything so it does make me skeptical. What I don't like about this place is the cubby system they have, there are no lockers for you and during really busy times they run out and people are putting their stuff on top of them. There are bathrooms to change in but no real 'locker room.' My biggest pet peeve is the lack of a water fountain. They have water you can buy from a vending machine but no water fountain so when you run out, that's it. It's probably my biggest negative. One big pro for me was it is 24-hours and I think it is what made my ultimate decision was it's open all the time (with your card) and close to work. I have complained several times that their pads on equipment are ripped and torn and need to be replaced, also the gloves are torn also. Hydro bed has been down for months. it is oveious they don't won't to put money back into gym.... Very sad. read more

Although this review falls under the SnapFitness / Corning location, I am writing about the Penn Yan NY location, and overall Snap Fitness policies. First, I am a senior.... Snap Fitness increased my monthly rate 35% last fall with no reason given and no way to dispute. In January, with a change in my insurance, I asked to enroll in the Silver Sneakers program and was told that there were no spots available?? Finally, I received an email notification that the location was closing, with no date given. I emailed the member services email and asked them not to charge my credit card for May since the site is closing and I have to find another location. They emailed back that their polices for cancellation required a 30 day notice when they notified me that they were the ones that notified about the closure.. I emailed several times asking them NOT to charge my card but, of course, today I was charged! Snap Fitness is NOT worth the money they charge monthly and their policies are very unreasonable!! Pros: the location is not bad, for when I'm in town. Cons: why is it they have a hourly sign posted on the door, and no one ever there, to let you in? That to me, is very bad business! If you're not going to be truthful to your hours, then you shouldn't have the sign posted. Every time I come into town, and wants to sign up, no one ever there to let you in? It makes me, don't want to recommend anyone there. One day, I stood outside in the cold and rain, for almost 35 minutes and still no one came to assist me! Treadmills have been broken for over a year and no one seems interested in fixing them, they squeak, rattle and randomly stop dead in the middle of a run. The facility is 24/7 and it's fine for weight lifting but be careful around their treadmills, you can seriously get hurt on their equipment. read more

Staff is hardly there. If you move away or need to cancel for any reason they beat around the bush and won't let you. If you go in, in person, like you're suppose to, to fill out a form, they will tell you to email and call this number. I called and emailed for a week with no responses. Went back in and actually talked to a manager who heard from my friend the difficulties I had cancelling. So she even knew about my situation already. Told me they don't have cancellation forms there, that she would take down my name and number and call. Never did! I am now on my 2nd month of paying for a gym for 2 people that I don't/can't use. $124 gone. Here is another thing to add to the shittiness of the situation, paid the bank $35 to stop cancellation. Snap runs your card on a POS which is like a checkout register. The cancellation didn't work and they still got my money. After venting on Facebook, I find out this has happened to a lot of people in the area. Even the a guy at the bank said "good luck with canceling there" and knew the struggle. ADVICE: Get a new bank card, keep records of you trying to cancel in case they put you in collections. I had to get a new bank card anyway, and when realized that was the solution it was quite sad. read more

I have had problems since the day I signed up. While Chris gave me a walk through, I asked him there is another fitness place not far from here that is cheaper so why should I choose your place? He said " we are more hands on than they are, give more attention to the customers". I also made it clear I had know idea what I was doing and would need the training to use the machines the right way. It took 2 hours to sign me up, which I was understanding and patient. The first day I had scheduled for a training session, I showed up, Chris did not, the replacement receptionist said he was on vacation, and called him multiple times to see if he was coming into work. I told her I would text him to reschedule , since he gave me his cell number, right after I left he answers me says he was sick, I have worked before and when I and avoiding work I will not answer , but when I have a good reason for staying home, I do not have a problem answering... however I said either way when you get back to work get ahold of me to reschedule the appointment, he said he would in a couple days, remember he is texting my cell phone number 3 weeks later I called to cancel my membership and get my money back... they are sorry because they did not have my number right in the computer, they would give me a couple free training sessions free with a different trainer, I was really hesitant with the way the first issues, but I agreed to try again. I set up the free personal session to see what you can do, I forget what it is called, went good. I went to the first 30 minute training session got through 15 minutes felt dizzy and got water and went to the hydro bed for a bit , the next 30 minute appointment I called to see if we could make it for the next day ( which I ask if this is the Corning office). They said he was busy and he would have to call me back I waited 2 weeks then called again to cancel my membership (second time ) The receptionist (Liz) said it will probably take a couple days because the owners are on vacation out of the country. I called back 8 days later got the answering service, they said they would have them call me back, ( I explained they are not that is why I am calling again. Liz calls me today explains that I waited to long to cancel my membership, to get my money back, but I probably could have if she would have let me cancel and get it back the first time I called and asked for it back Also it is my fault because I should be calling back if they do not call me to tell her they did not call me Really , maybe they should have a better system for calling and getting information to their employees not to blame the customers why they can not call anyone back.... Beware!!! Also if you want to be able to get your money back you have to go to the gym so many days in a month ect. I was told that... tonight. Great gym has everything you need to be successful in the gym, comfortable, clean, also it's a 24hr gym, only thing is there no water fountain so u gotta bring your own water read more

This gym is the worst. We signed up due to its favorable location. It is expensive, the staff are not knowledgeable nor helpful. Their financial policies are complicated and neither the staff or the client can understand their jiberish. We will leave as soon as the membership is up. read more

Canceling my membership has been a nightmare. Aside from the fact that their extremely limited "staffed hours" make it nearly impossible to talk to someone who is actually employed at the location you need to speak with, their employees seem to have zero basic customer service skills. I was a member for 4 months and had to relocate - forcing me to cancel my membership. I emailed them and was told that I had to come in to sign a paper to officially cancel. That would have been fine if I wasn't living an hour and a half away at this point (they don't have any other viable solutions for their customers who are not near locations anymore?). Nevertheless, I took the trip to go in and sign the form. After this, I was auto-charged for yet another month of service after I canceled. I called in and got the run-around with being connected to different locations - none of which had the knowledge or resources to direct me to someone who could actually help me and just told me I'd "get a call back from a manager" - which never came. From the time I requested to cancel and physically signed their cancellation form (November) to now (February) I've called a handful of times and they claim they will "send a check" to my home address with the refund. No check has arrived and there seems to be no sense of urgency to refund customers who were charged in error. So I called again, immediately asked to speak with the manager, explained the situation (again), and she informed me that whoever processed the cancellation form "forgot to put it in the system." She got on the phone with the owner (also did not put me on hold so I was able to hear the entire conversation) and said that after 3 months of waiting for this refund that they'd put it back on my card... Clearly, no one knows what they're doing here and their staff should probably be trained on better customer service methods. read more

I am very glad to have this fitness center where it is located in Corning. I go to it occasionally when I visit my Son in Corning. I am in the Silver Sneakers program; so, it I do not need to establish a separate payment contract with SNAP to allow me to enter with my SNAP cardkey. It is always clean and I have never found it to be busy, but realistically, I have not gone during hours that anyone would normally expect it to be busy. Given that I go during odd hours, I don't believe I have seen a trainer there, nor have I sought one. I like that it has card key access so I can go at any hours. My main points for my appreciation is it is clean, has a great assortment of cardio and weights, it is always accessible through the card key so I don't have to worry about what time it is when I want to enter... convenience! If you want someone to just have a free hand in your back account this is the place to go. They have auto-withdrawal to pay your monthly fee. If they mess up your account and take too much the owner doesn't want to give it back. She wants to keep it and just give you a credit. One month they took $600 out of my account and they didn't want to give it back. They did eventually. They have a swinging door policy on employees. They come and go so fast that you don't even see them. The owner thinks that employees are a dime a dozen. This place used to be a fun place to work out but not anymore. It is empty most of the time because so many people quite because of the last rash of firings. They don't care about any of clients, they just want to fill their pockets. They make comments about they don't care if people stay there or not, that they can just leave. Equipment is not updated or replaced at all. Sometimes equipment is broken for weeks. There is a bad odor when you enter. The manager never speaks to you or is out on the floor. She is hiding in the office with the door closed and her boyfriend in there with her. read more
