There are pros and cons to this place but overall I am enjoying my time here. The reason I changed…read moregyms was because I moved and Planet Fitness was a bit too far of a drive considering I have so many other choices close by. So I chose this one. It's close to work, I can walk to it afterwards and that was the main reason I decided to come here. It moved locations so it's closer and from what I have heard it is bigger. When I first went to sign up, there was a male trainer there who showed me around- super nice and friendly, walked me around and answered my questions. The front desk reception didn't seem to pay much attention and was training someone else to get be signed up. There are classes during the week for yoga and core and weight lifting upstairs. It has a decent amount of machines and for the most part, clean. I never really see them cleaning anything so it does make me skeptical. What I don't like about this place is the cubby system they have, there are no lockers for you and during really busy times they run out and people are putting their stuff on top of them. There are bathrooms to change in but no real 'locker room.' My biggest pet peeve is the lack of a water fountain. They have water you can buy from a vending machine but no water fountain so when you run out, that's it. It's probably my biggest negative. One big pro for me was it is 24-hours and I think it is what made my ultimate decision was it's open all the time (with your card) and close to work. Everyone has a different thing they are looking for and this just happened to work best for me.

One or two of the receptionists have learned my name because I show up regularly. They do a decent job maintaining the equipment. Occasionally, one of the leg machines or a treadmill will break, but they're good about fixing it as soon as they can get the part. Unlike the other reviewer I don't have a problem with the locker room (or nude people-gasp!). I think the facility is pretty clean. They remodeled the showers a year ago too. They work great--good water pressure, good temperature, and they provide body wash dispensers on the wall. I've used the therapy pool for family swim with my wife and infant daughter and I really liked it. I've also used the free baby sitting service a couple of times, which worked out ok. The hot tub, lap pool, and sauna are all nice too. I haven't taken any classes there, but they seem popular. They offer spinning as well as aerobic type classes. Healthworks can get crowded at peak times, which could impact your ability to work out, but having been to many gyms over the past 15 years I'd still say it's not bad. Monday night between 4:30-6:30 is probably the busiest time of the week. The intensity of the week nights trails off after that. I usually never have to wait for a treadmill since they have so many. I didn't compare Healthworks to the YMCA or Snap Fitness because I live so close that it was a no brainer. I've heard the Y draws more teenagers. Healthworks has members of all ages and levels of fitness so anyone should feel comfortable there. The only things I miss at Healthworks are sports courts (basketball or racketball), Martial Arts classes, and a straight pull up bar. Check out the Y if those are really important to you.

$75 a month for unlimited martial arts classes. That includes MMA, boxing, jujitsu, and women's…read morekickboxing. On top of that, you get access to the Lionheart gym, and the North Club. Classes for MMA/Boxing and other martial arts occur 3 times a week, and each class is roughly an hour long. As far as instruction goes, there is 1-2 instructors, depending on their availability. Most of the hour is spent going through drills, with the last 15 minutes or so dedicated to either light sparring or a conditioning drill. The classes aren't bad, as most of the students attending are beginners, but there is a sense of constant repetition throughout each session. That could be a good thing, or a bad, depending your actual level of skill. It seems that Titan also used to be twice the size. Now, it has been cut in half due to the other side now being LionHeart CrossFit. That, and there probably was a cut in the number of students attending class. Nonetheless, it is decently priced, as other martial arts classes in cities cost well over $100. As far as the gyms that you get with you paid membership, well they're worth about $10. I wouldn't pay much more than that because all the equipment is old, and the places just kind of smells. LionHeart is better than North Club, but the equipment at Penn State's facilities is just much better. The only positive thing is that it doesn't get crowded like Penn State's facilities.

I had the chance to workout a couple of times at New Image while in the area for business. One of…read morethe things that's pretty tricky being on the go is finding a good gym to get a quality workout in. I can say that I had a good lifting experience here at New Image, and I'm a fan. Now, it's not the latest, state of the art type of place. In fact, the equipment may have a bit of wear and tear, if not the walls themselves, etc. as well. But that's why I like this place. It's not pristine, it's gritty. It's more what comes to mind when you tell a lifter that a gym is "hardcore." Good solid equipment, that while it may not be the newest and shiniest, it does the job well. The upstairs has some cardio equipment, Hammer Strength and other machines, some free weight dumbbells with some sizeable weight, and a dedicated cage area. Downstairs, it is more dedicated to powerlifting type lifting and more free weight area including more dumbbells also. The steady crash of someone pounding out deadlifts can be heard from down there usually (at least my couple of visits). Iron plates...man I love a gym that uses iron plates instead of the rubber type replacements you see most places now. It's not super cooled AC filled, in fact you'll work up a good sweat there while one or two industrial floor fans help circulate the air. Good solid workout environment. The people in New Image were great, both staff and fellow lifters. The staff I encountered were friendly, helpful, and positive. A good number of the other lifters said a friendly hello or even asked where I was from (I guess my accent gives it away, of course). It felt like a good camaraderie existed there, another plus in my book. Bottom line: If you are looking for hardcore gym environment and a good all-around great place to get your workout in, New Image can provide it. While it's not a shiny day spa-like gym, it's got what it takes in both equipment and atmosphere as well as interaction to make your lifting experience there a good one. I'm a fan, as four Yelp stars denotes.
