    Le petit poutine (satisfying).
    Aerin A.

Note my rating is for the regular poutine only !!! Came here twice when I was in Québec city last week because it was on of the only places open at 3am . To note While there are a lot of cool pubs in QC that stay open late most of their kitchens close at 11pm so please keep that in mind . After doing a quick google search I found this place which was popping early Sunday morning at 3am . I ordered a petit poutine and it was everything I had hoped for and more . After trying this place I truly believe that poutine in QC is better than Montréal as this place is probably at best mediocre for QC and yet was better than any of the highly recommended places I tried in Montréal including La Banquiste and even the coveted Foie Gras Poutine at Au Pied de Cochon. Other tips ( not reflected in my review / rating ) - I would avoid ordering any of the sandwiches ( including the bacon cheeseburger ) . They are a bit overpriced and small . Also if you still want to order something like the club sandwich make sure to arrive well before 10pm as it is not offered after 10. I was informed that their menu changes drastically for late night dining and is quite limited .

No fuss no frills snack joint. Quick service, food is good for the price. Classic poutine was good, sugar pie was obviously sugary.

So happy to find a late spot eats in Quebec City. Open until 4am! Menu is a mix of burgers, poutine, fried foods, onion rings are huge and look amazing! Super quick turnaround in kitchen. Decent food, friendly staff, good prices. Can even grab a Molson beer with your meal. Will definitely be back when hungry late at night!

Operates like a fast food restaurant in that you order at the counter then grab a table to eat from. We came for late night one night as we were craving some poutine. FYI if you do, they increase the price very slightly for late night. Line moved fast and we were able to pretty quick. Overall the food is ... fine? Probably there are better poutine places and definitely there are better burger places but for late night it's fine, no complaints

I got recommended to this spot as one of the local's favorite spot to enjoy some poutine. And I have to admit, I was skeptical about it after trying poutines from numerous chains, thinking it may not be my thing. But wow! I really enjoyed the poutine from this spot! I got the Dulton Poutine under their Les Classiques!list. It was delicious! It tasted like American chili on top of a regular poutine. The onion, ground beef, tomato, cheese, and fries were so flavorful! The wow factor goes especially towards the cheese! I was surprised how different cheese curds tasted compared to the other places. A nice snack accompanied with a simple Canadian beer. A can of beer is $3.50 with purchase! I also got the sugar pie (tarte au sucre maison). Note that I am someone that doesn't go for sweets, and has a high sensitivity towards sweets. I like mildly sweet things (0% boba sweetness level) if I had to go to dessert spots. The sugar pie (tarte au sucre maison) is something that tasted like pure sugar in a pie crust! I'll NOT recommend the sugar pie! It tasted like a pie filled with caramelized sugar! Pure sugar at it's finest! If you are into eating pure sugar, this might be for you, but I would highly recommend to avoid this item if you're a normal human!

Note: My star rating is for the poutine only. The one thing I like about this place is the vibe. It's just really chill and it's a great place to drink a beer and have a poutine. Plus, the staff made an impression and are friendly. The poutine looks impressive and it's decent. I found it a little salty for my taste though. The fries weren't for me either. They may be for other people, as other's seem to love this place. I really prefer the poutine at Frites Alore. I liked the smaller fries that are crispier. You also get a huge portion. Which some may think is a positive. I think it's a little too much , even though it's a cool visual, as I'm the type to clean his plate. Also, fries are the type of food where left overs won't taste good. They do have other things on the menu. So based on the atmosphere it may be worth a try. I may the other stuff another try if I have the chance. Again all my QC reviews are from PreCovid in Feb 2020. So things may have changed.

Hi friends! If you've noticed, I've including information about outdoor seating - given the times we live in, that's important to know! It does not factor into my rating of the food. Patio There are two tiny tables outside the snack bar. It's great place to people watch! There are more tables to eat at inside the snack bar - after you order and pay at the counter. Food I love poutine and having grown up in Montreal, I know my poutine! I was happy with the poutine from Saint Jean Snack Bar. The potatoes were thick, fresh cut and nicely fried to a golden brown. The sauce was golden brown, light umami in flavour, vegetarian and the right consistency - not too thick or thin. We got a good amount of cheese curds but they weren't as squeaky as I like. I wanted Jalapeño poppers but sadly, they were out. So, we had the macaroni and cheese croquettes instead. They tasted exactly like Kraft Dinner deep fried into crunchy triangles - yum! Visit again? Yes! If I'm in the area, I would definitely eat here again. I love casual snack bars and a good poutine with vegetarian gravy is always a yes for me!

The food was hot, tasty, and generously portioned. Just the thing you'd want to warm you up on a cold day.

    Poutine steak haché
    Stephanie S.

I ordered the poutine steak haché which means they serve the traditional poutine of gravy, cheese curds and french fries with what I thought would be ground beef. In stead, it's sliced hamburger. The poutine overall was of high quality, which is why it costs a bit more than a chain fast food poutinerie (yes I think I just made that word up). The fries were awesome: fresh cut and fried per order. The gravy was typical poutine gravy and the cheese curds were super fresh, with that squeaky texture any curd head loves. I was expecting the burger to be ground and not sliced and it wasn't seasoned, which made it a bit bland and that's why I can't really give it more stars. Had I ordered some of the other varieties on the menu, that might not have been the case. I guess I just need to come back. The petite portion was right size and I probably could have ordered a mini. Food came out fairly fast, considering there were 20 of us. Overall a good eatery with service until 5am for those who want to avoid a hangover. :)

Very quick and tasty option for some good poutine. I also got the tart au sucre, which was fine, but the poutine had plenty of cheese curds, and I was very satisfied.

Dinner #2...ok I guess more like a snack. A heavy and yummy snack at that! Our friends came here the night before because apparently it's open super late! I can see why this would be a hit for the drunk crowd and hungry crowds. Very hip little joint with wooden furniture. You order at the cashier then find a table and wait for your number to be called. I ordered the side of fries with the meat sauce...still not sure what the actual name is. Other ordered the Fried Mac N Cheese and different types of Poutine. Portions here are HUGE! Don't be fooled by the size of the tray, they will stack it to the highest it can go! My order of fries and meat sauce were AMAZING! It reminded me of a Sloppy Joe sauce over fries. I WAS thinking of ordering the burger, but based on other reviews, I was too scared. Besides, can't screw up an order of Fries! hehe.

+ I had a "regular" poutine. The poutine was very good, especially for the fries and cheese. The sauce could be improved but overall it was a very satisfying. I really liked the decor. Very casual. - Service was a little slow given the fact that there was only one visible employee the evening I went.

We were here around 3pm for late lunch. The place was empty when we were there. The staff were friendly & poiite. We got a mac n' cheese burger, grilled cheese sandwich, a small poutine, & a soda. The mac n' cheese burger was delicious. It's basically a burger with a "mac n' cheese" patties. The grilled cheese was just decent, nothing special. It taste just like any other typical grilled cheese sandwich. The poutine was good but not the best. All total, we spent about $21. Portion is a bit small for anyone with a big appetite

As we walked down Rue St. Jean the next day, we were looking for some lunch. After checking out a few places, we walked by Simon Patisserie and decided to check it out. It really is a throwback...and feels like a old bakery I used to walk in with my grandfather 40 years ago as a little kid in Philadelphia. So, it immediately evoked wonderful memories. That said, the goods still have to stand up to the test...and they did. This place was not only a patisserie, but had varied hot items for lunch that they make on-site. We had beef stroganoff, potato/onion pastry puff, chicken & Mac, eclair, pastry with cream and raspberry filling, almond filled pastry, pasta and veggies. ALL of them were a 5! In fact, to demonstrate how good they were...on our way out of town the next day we stopped here to get some baked goods to bring back for family...two days later. We kept them "on ice" and out of the heat for two days, even bringing them with us out of the car so they wouldn't spoil. Of course, they would never be as good as freshly made, but they made it back to the delight of everyone! If you go, say hello to Joanne and Joanne (yes, two of them named that) and say hello for us. :-)

Cochon Dingue, The Crazy Pig in French, is a chain of Quebec Provence French restaurants that according to their site combines bistro refinement with the feel of a local laid back atmosphere. It just so happens that I'm typing a review for the original location on Quebec City's Champlain and Traversiers intersection. Of course, you'll see both English and French on the menus, and I felt bad that my French is horrible as I visited Quebec City and Montreal, but remember. San Jose and the Bay Area as a whole are Spanish speaking areas given its history, not French, and while I'm at it, Tagalog and Spanish are way more similar than Tagalog and French. It is nice that the Toronto cousin driving us around can still speak it to a point though. Before I forget, do realize that though there are two entryways, only one of them is really walkable, as the other's closed off. As I insert the old "Yes guys, the ladies are cute" and "Yes ladies, the guys are cute" statements pair, I notice how the place has that simple old school French charm, and I get that hospitality that will always stick with me. I wish I can remember what drink I had as it is pretty, but I do remember ordering a Quebec City pork sandwich (I need to coordinate after all as Mr. John Witherspoon would have wanted) and a pavlova dessert along with the group ordering a deluxe poutine. Oh, remember the "Darn you and your insane good ability to have foods made better than in the Yay Area!" statement I typed up, the second statement of this review? This is in regards of the pavlova. So, the first time I had a pavlova was at an Oakland/Berkeley Japanese restaurant called Iyasare (which I actually reviewed). I told our server that I had a pavlova in/near Oakland, and she asked me to see if theirs is better. Normally, I don't like nuts of some sort with berries in desserts, but this place made me actually like the format because a pavolva isn't so much of a guilt dessert, and with this in mind, I developed now the fondness of nuts with fruits with low guilt/guilt free desserts. I still don't like nuts with fruits in desserts, but that now only applies to guilty desserts. Our server went back to our table and asked if she and everyone else at Cochon made a better pavlova than the one at Iyasare. Seeing that I couldn't lie because Canada, I told her yes, which had her giddy. Go be giddy young lady! Yay Canada getting another food victory! The flaw. Seeing that "They made a better pavlova than my fellow Yay Area residents!" isn't a legit flaw, though my one visit was and is memorable, the one flaw the various locations have in general if I should even call it one is that they add Swiss cheese to their Philly cheesesteak sandwiches. I get that it's to have a healthy cheese, and French is spoken in Switzerland, but adding Swiss to the sandwich is a Philadelphia no-no. Cochon Dingue is quite a fabulous place. If it weren't for the perfect score Toronto places I reviewed, Fran's and Makilala (as Tsujiri is shown all over Canada, which is why I didn't type it up), this would have been my favorite Canadian restaurant. To Canadian residents not in Toronto, I'm sorry that none of your beloved restaurants will ever be my top Canadian spot, but remember. Toronto has the most Filipinos of all of your cities, and of course, I'll have that attachment like they do. At least you can hang your hat on how you have a place that makes a better pavlova than my fellow Bay Area residents! So, for people not from Canada, go check the place out, as it's that good! +/Cochon Dingue is cleverly divine for having some of the best hospitality I experienced, the simple old French charm and really good food. -/"You can't put Swiss cheese in Philly's classic sandwich, everyone!"

The thick layer of BBQ sauce wasn't quite my style--I'm a dry rub girl--but I was too hungry to care much. No photos because I devoured everything. My dining companion had a chicken sandwich she raved about. She ordered a Nordic spritz while I indulged in some Quebec cider. Honestly, I expected more pork options given the restaurant's name, but they fed us quickly and efficiently, which was exactly what we needed. No real complaints except for those burnt ribs. The interior has eclectic, cool-looking decor that's worth checking out. Our waitress provided quick and efficient service as well.

The passing trays looked amazing but we couldn't find seating to save our lives so we struck out to look for another location nearby. You start with a base: quinoa, rice, bulgur, fries (poutine), or lettuce. You choose a number of chicken tenders in one or two flavors, then choose from a variety of toppings. The staff here *understandably* is not great in English, which can of course change depending on where you go and when you come. This was one of our first stops before my high school/college French instruction "clicked on" again, so ordering was mildly stressful for our family. It would have been nice if there were some pre-designed bowl recipes to select from (like Cava, for example). For those of you willing to play the language barrier game, the sky is the limit in terms of how you can personalize your bowl. Like every Quebecois dining establishment, this fast food chain is head and shoulders above any American equivalent. Even their poutine (which can be messed up, I assure you) was among the top poutines I've eaten. This is a great place to grab a quick meal, as light or heavy as you require.
