Large rest area off of Rte 1. If you are going southbound, signage is poor so keep going straight through the traffic light and you will find it on your left. There is a direct on ramp to the highway southbound from the rest stop. This is also home to Del DOT offices so the amenities are a bit spiffier. Entrances to the restrooms do not front the car parking lot so I would be cautious if alone in evening hours. Generally well kept. Kids play area. Doggie area too

Hubby and I stopped here to use the bathrooms and walk around a bit after driving a while. It was easy to find off the interstate. They had plenty of parking spots. Their bathrooms were clean. It makes sense now that they have a 6 hour limit; they have picnic areas to eat, a good size playground and equipment for the littles, and a dog area. We didn't realize how big the rest area is. The only thing that there is off was that when leaving the rest area, it took us back south when we were trying to stay north.

Great facility! Picnic areas, vending machines, playground, dog walk area and clean restrooms!! About 1/2 way from central Pennsylvania and the Delaware beaches!

This rest area has bathrooms only. If you are hungry and looking for food keep it moving. If you just need to use the restroom this is your spot. It is very clean and they also have an information booth. The information booth was manned when I stopped here. They also have a few vending machines as well.

A true "rest" area. Quiet, recessed from the highway . Many trees, flowers, a fountain, numerous picnic tables included covered picnic areas and barbeque grills, and a playground! relatively clean restrooms. a beautifully landscaped Delaware Traffic Fatality Memorial Garden, which is a unique concept I believe. a tourist information center and guft shop open from 8 am - 5 pm. a dog walk. loads of parking. a great place to stop and actually get some good sleep if you are tired and don't want to shell out for a hotel . NJ Turnpike take note, DE state route 1 has you so far outdone in the "rest area" concept. (there is a Gas station across the street if you need gas or snacks, the rest area itself has vending machines.). This place qualifies as a park not just a rest area. Access via the North Smyrna exit from DE SR 1.

Stopped here on multiple occasions traveling from Va to Pa and back. This rest area has one of the cleanest bathrooms.

On our…read moreannual pilgrimage to the lands of my forefathers... or in less dramtic terms... the state where my people are from... (sighs in Bridgerton) dad had us trained from babies how to travel down I-95. As was our ritual, we'd pull out of Brooklyn at 2am and did not stop until Maryland House. We had a box of freshly fried chicken wings, a cooler of drinks and bladders of iron. NO STOP TIL MARYLAND HOUSE I can recall only 2 times nature did one of us dirty, forcing us to answer the call of nature on the side of the turnpike, hoping our bare butts wasn't visible to the Mac trucks whizzing by so fast the car shook. I married and trained my non travelling spouse and subsequent kids in the same fashion...NO STOP TIL MARYLAND! I did it a bit differently than dad, we'd stop and let the kids run around for about an hour. There used to be an arcade, lots of prize machines and a museum on the upper level. I miss that. Remarried and this spouse is as well travelled as I am on these roads and the old Maryland house was "updated". Broke my heart. Its devoid of all the charm and personality it used to have. No arcade, no museum, no upper level balcony. Its a solid travel plaza, but it looks like all the others. My spouse likes to stop at the Biden Welcpme Center and I haven't been here in a while. Like seeing an old friend you've loved forever but who has changed so drastically, it was bittersweet. Maryland House will always have a special place in my heart, no matter what.

This isn't a neighborhood strip or a mall. it's a service area on one of the busiest highways in North America. You'd expect places like this to stay open until at least 11 PM, if not midnight. Even 10 PM would make sense. Because of this, everyone ended up waiting in a long line at Wendy's, which was the only real food option available. It was frustrating and disappointing, especially for travelers relying on this stop late in the evening. Definitely not what you'd expect from a major highway service area.

What I found interesting were two cleaning staff who were working to close off tables and chairs in spite of multiple people standing around waiting for food and looking for places to sit. As soon as someone got up, they took the chairs and flipped them up on the tables and started cleaning with the clear message of do not use the area. The man and woman closed off half of the sitting space. It was not even 8pm. You can see in the picture that they are aggressively cleaning around the table we just left to close it off. They were cleaning around us while we ate and I was mindful to keep the area clean and we are very quickly once we got the food. The vibe they gave was clearly to make us feel uncomfortable as "being in the way" and make us leave without verbally asking. This is supposed to be a 24hr rest stop if I'm not wrong.

This time, we pulled in for a bathroom break and to let my dog stretch her legs and get a walk in. We ordered the Chick-fil-A grilled nuggets, the grilled chicken club sandwich, the cool grilled chicken wrap, and a large waffle fries. Everything was very good. There was also a lady in the restroom who was constantly cleaning, which I really appreciated.
