Welp - I can't speak to their rates or performance, because they blew me off. They were initially very responsive, friendly, and professional, but after sending a guy named Alex out for an in-home estimate... radio silence. He came out on a Friday and promised to get back to me with a quote either that day or the following Monday - and I never heard from him again. I called on Wednesday to follow up, and no one answered the phone. I called again on Thursday, finally talked to someone, and requested an update. The person promised to let Alex know - but I still haven't heard back. At this point, I'm not interested in hiring Smooth Move, regardless of if/when I actually receive the quote. Their customer service is terrible and they clearly don't care whether or not they get my business. read more

Bad experience. Gave a list of furniture to be moved and explained they had no boxes to pack or any boxes to move. Was told 6-7 hrs was estimated for the move and the price was advertised at $150. Had to give a deposit of $150 and was told the estimate with driving would be 6-7 hrs. Couldn't ever talk to anyone in person until the night before when I was told the $150 was a base price for 2 movers and they needed a 4 man crew so it would be $300 per hr. When I voiced concern that it was advertised as 150/hr I was told if I didn't use 4 men, it would be a 12 hr job so it would take less time and money to use 4 men. They had me over a barrel since it was too late to get another mover for next day plus they had my deposit. Day of the move the crew showed up in a u-haul, not a company truck. They took 10 hrs to move and in the process of moving broke the feet off of two large sturdy dressers most likely by dragging the pieces on the truck. 3 other things were also damaged. What I calculated to be an approximate $1000 move cost me $2650 plus I now have to have 2 pieces of good furniture repaired and have to deal with 3 other damaged items. I would not recommend that you use a Smooth Move movers because it was anything but a smooth move! I chose them because of reviews on NextDoor, my neighborhood site. Beware!! read more

I recently used Smooth Move for a small move across town. I just paid for my furniture only--I had packed and moved all boxes of smaller possessions prior. They sent two guys, a mid-size pickup truck, and a trailer to move the furniture only for a 2-bedroom apartment. It took the guys a bit longer than I thought, but they were meticulous in wrapping and padding everything. One bookshelf was significantly damaged, but I was partially compensated for it. Pricing was competitive, owner/manager was very responsive, and overall this was a pretty positive experience. I'd use this company again when needed. read more

Smooth Move is the best. These folks are the exemplars of the moving industry in Charleston. From getting a quote (they actually send someone to look over the move) to moving day they were professional, efficient and friendly. We had to make two moves with them because our house was not ready so we mad a seven month stop in an apartment before the final move. Everything was move to the apartment and then seven month later tot he house. Smooth Move did a great job. Not one plate as chipped and the grandfather clock made the move perfectly. The guys put every piece whre we asked them and in many cases I cannot believe how they were able to get some things into the house. You can not ask for move. Great company & team/people to move your good safely, efficiently and it all arrives in great shape. They use the blanket and wrap to protect our furniture. The were considerate of our furniture and worked to protect it as we moved. We had packed most of our belongings in boxes, well labeled... to be ready for a day of loading and then unloading. We just moved... very well arranged and coordinated with Kevin. Plenty of info on the Smooth Move website to help get prepared/ready. We had Eric and his well organized, professional, friendly, considerate, determined and high energy crew. A long day... a good day loading up in Myrtle Beach and then moving to Mt. Pleasant with one delivery to a storage facility and then our delivery to our apartment. Everything completed by 5:00pm. WOW!! All was very good and very professional. We hired Smooth Move to relocate my parents to a senior facility; the amount of damage is almost unbelievable - a curved screen television irreparably cracked, many gouges and broken pieces of antique furniture, and they even smashed the control panel of their washing machine. They also concealed damage from us. In following up, they have been unsympathetic and unresponsive. Don't use them under any circumstances. They are highly unprofessional and unwilling to take proper responsibility for the thousands of dollars of damage they made to the items they moved. read more

Tried to reach out to these people several times to get quotes for moving through multiple methods and found it either very difficult to get a quote or even a response. Their services may be good but they really need to work on responding to potential customers. EDIT: (in regards to business owners response): The original request for proposal was in March of 2019, where no voicemail was returned. The second request was via Yelp in June 2019 and after realizing this was the same company we quested a quote from in March and received no response we decided to leave feedback. The worst. They broke my stuff, lost entire pieces of furniture, were supposed to pack up the kitchen but left behind piles of items in the cabinets. When we got to the place I was moving to, they were sullen and annoyed that they had to carry furniture and boxes to the top (3rd) floor. I called the owner about the broken and lost furniture, but realising that these things were irreplaceable and no amount of money could replace them, I let it go. I moved from NYC to SC and had a specific time window for moving. The previous move they were doing lasted a little longer than expected and in order to get to us in time they sent a third man to the previous job and to us for no charge. Not to mention, they showed up earlier than expected and had my entire truck unloaded, bed put together, and were out the door in under an hour. They were so efficient, kind, and did not break one thing. They really care about their customers and I could see that through their communication and skills. I will definitely use them again. My husband and I had used Smooth Move a few months ago and had a great experience. They were able to help us last-minute, when another moving company did not show up, last minute. So, we wanted to use them again! The people in the office were responsive and patient. The one frustration with the process was that not all fees were quoted initially, and not until I spoke with another staff member a couple days after scheduling. I had a terrible experience with Smooth Move this summer/fall. The movers were unprofessional and the owners/schedulers were very disorganized. The movers broke a number our furniture pieces and blamed it on the shifting on the truck. Some of the items were antiques and difficult to repair and replace. The movers were also HOURS late showing up with no communication and no explanation. The movers were rude (except for one man) and all of them refused to wear masks, despite the COVID pandemic. I helped them move all day and wore a mask the entire time. I understand that this is a hard job, but the movers didn't seem to have experience at all. I had to ask them multiple times to wrap pieces of furniture and large breakable items. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I would have been better off hiring a few people off the street. read more

My move started out with the drivers showing up high and then took the 1.5 hours to move to bedroom sets. Than we get to where we are going and found that they broke a bunch of fragile items and tore up a $1200 leather couch. And then the company expects to be paid. Worst service I have ever had. I called for an estimate from Summerville to Raleigh. I have a one bedroom and office. I was told that's going to be about $3,000. No one asked what furniture I had. Nothing. When I called the company back since the "estimator" worked part time and on his own hours, I was told it was because they were a small company. I advised that I moved from D.C. to Charleston for less than that. Ridiculous. If you don't do distance moves, don't waste my time. The response provided by the company is irrelevant and my review stands as is. I was not happy and had excellent move for half that through another company. I told your estimator at the time I would complain. Someone should have followed up with a phone call. And rather than generically posting a response, AGAIN maybe a phone call would be better. read more
