We pulled up during what felt like a historic flood but apparently might just be another day in Norfolk. We arrived a bit after lunch hour and were able to order right away. You make your choices at the counter and then take the food to a covered seating area. (Good thing it's covered since it was pouring) I'll start by mentioning that every staff member we encountered was awesome, they all seemed into what they were doing and delivered a great experience. I was also impressed by the operation. They had everything you would need displayed in the seating area. Sauces, utensils, napkins, to go containers, and bags. No need to awkwardly look for anything. Hard to get this far into a review without mentioning the outstanding food. It's some of the best BBQ I've had! We went with the professional platter and added burnt ends. I enjoyed each and every item but the standout to me was the brisket, I've never had a juicier more tender piece of brisket in my life! Ribs were done really well also, the burnt ends had tons of flavor, the sausage was delicious, and the pulled pork and chicken were winners as well. The fries were better than expected, the Mac and cheese was tasty, and the broccoli salad worked really well with all that meat! Truly a feast!

We had to put in the order at the counter first before grabbing a table in one of the shack style sitting areas. They had 7 different styles of meat and 9 different sides. They also sold snack, house made sauces and some merchandises of their brand. I ordered the 2 meat platter with beef brisket and chopped beef. Within few minutes of ordering, they brought the order out to the table. I liked the chopped beef but didn't like the brisket. Tried the burned end also that was good actually. The chicken nuggets I got for my daughter were the best. They were so tasty. The side of corn pudding was also excellent. The shack we sat in was really hot since there was no AC, just a normal fan was blowing air. It was self service so we got the utensils, soda and water. They had ketchup, vinegar, mustard, bbq and white sauces available in the condiment area. Overall it was a decent spot but bbq meat fell short in taste for me.

They had limited sides, I would have loved to see some Mac & Cheese as a side. They were out of the Beef ribs. I was told you have to come before noon if you want beef. The BBQ sauce was good and had just a small hint of spice. I think the ribs could have used a few more minutes on the grill, it didn't have the fall off the bone consistency and the chicken was kinda chewy. I tried a sample of the pulled pork and it was amazing. I would return for the pulled pork alone.

Lol This brotha needs to stop playin' and kill these Virginia Beach streets with great Bbq. I visited three other bbq places in Virginia Beach and J.A.'s would get my money EVERY time! The other guys weren't bad but J.A.'s was serving ribs straight off of the grill. I love pork spare ribs that are seasoned and thrown on a grill. They don't have to be fall off the bone. They just have to be good and these ribs have flavor. They really didn't need heavy bbq sauce. I don't care for smoked meats over grilled meats so this here is the difference maker for me. His beef ribs are tender as well. I'm not usually into sides but his grilled cabbage is a hit for me. I loved the smokey kick. I also really liked the potato salad. It had some green stuff on top which looked like chopped parsley and it added to the flavor. One day I hope to try the mac n cheese off the grill. It looked good as well. I'll have to be honest and say that there is a wait. The service isn't fast. It wasn't a problem for me but be warned. lol. I got there a little before 11am and they had the slab of pork ribs ready but the sausages and beef ribs weren't ready. It gave me a chance to have the pork ribs for an early lunch. I came back a couple of hours later to get the beef ribs and he needed another couple of hours to make more. Consider calling ahead. I have been here almost two weeks and. I missed him last weekend due to the rain. The rain didn't stop him today and thank God because I fly home on Tuesday. I look forward to eating here again on my next trip.

We were greeted as soon as we walked in and the smell of the barbecue made our mouth water, it smelled amazing. Since we're both foodies, we wanted to try all the things so she decided on the BBQ Chicken and the Kansas City "Meat Candy" Platter. She chose Mac & Cheese and Green Beans. I decided on the Brisket & Kansas City Sweet Pork Platter with Cole Slaw, Baked Beans and Potato Salad, Cornbread came with both. We also ordered the Smoked Chicken Salad and Banana Pudding. We decided to dine in and so we could enjoy our food while it was fresh. While we waited, we sampled the BBQ sauces at the table and the Mop sauce was phenomenal. It was sweet and tangy with a little bit of spice, it was great. The food was served pretty quickly but unfortunately, we didn't enjoy most of it. The BBQ Chicken was dry, the Meat Candy was hard, and the Brisket wasn't tender at all. The Cole Slaw tasted like shredded cabbage, nothing else, and the Potato Salad and Mac & Cheese were flavorless. I did enjoy the Kansas City Sweet Pork, especially with the Mop Sauce and the Baked Beans were pretty good. The Smoked Chicken Salad was just okay. The Banana Pudding was literally instant banana pudding with a few vanilla wafers, topped with whipped cream, it was very disappointing. I've been wanting to try Donnie's Barbecue for quite a while but after that experience, I probably won't be returning unfortunately.

The name Pitt County is derived from its namesake county that has a long history of award winning barbecue. That first bite of sandwich was heaven and I added more of the sauce. I decided to eat the slaw independently and just WOW on flavors popping out of the tiny cup. The beans were standard but good! The macaroni was prepared differently with the type of noodles used and offered plenty of cheese and nice flavor. However no wow factor but most certainly holds its own. If I had to do over I would have got slaw as a side. This is a must find truck folks. They began operations in 757 early this year and do catering as well. They also offer a few items of merchandise.
