First time. Good experience. Clean and has a family-run feel to it. Nice, varied menu with conventional items, like hamburgers and egg omelettes along with Mexican staples, like burritos and quesadillas and limited BBQ items. Also a kid menu, so this is a family place to eat. Wife had steak street tacos ($13). Nicely served on a metal curved plate with each taco separate from the others. I tasted one and the meat was rather flavorless. Looked good, but was not, to our taste, good. I ordered the brisket sandwich and asked for it to be "lean". BBQ usually is served with the fat and I want to limit my fat intake. The sandwich ($16.50) came on a soft bun heaped with pieces of sliced meat. Very dry and absolutely no fat. A mixed blessing as it was, like the steak taco meat, dry and not much flavor. The service is great and management is fully focused on what is going on in the restaurant. Our server was Marconi M. who was also on the cash register at times. Very attentive. It is wonderful to have a restaurant in Van Wyck and we will be back to sample some more. First time trying Smokin Rail and a good experience. The service was great. Server was courteous and answered all questions. I went with the Guinness Brat and it was very good. The portions are generous and the fries were hot and crispy. The brat was well cooked and the toppings filled the sandwich. If I had any complaint it was the bread fell apart before I was done the sandwich but that was a minor issue as the bread was definitely fresh. My third time to this wonderful place.....terrific food. Friendly greeting, terrific servers, every plate "a picture ". We go after church and miss a crowd, by the time we leave, it's busy. Music on Wed evening, nice outdoor seating, lots of parking, can't wait to go back! One last thing, if you're a Senior citizen, chairs are a bit hard in main dining, bring a cushion. read more

I finally had the ability to slip in here while in the area & it was as amazing as everyone says. I sat at the bar around noon on a Tuesday and it was reasonably busy. The interior resembles a hunting lodge and was very cozy and quaint. Franklin took care of me and suggested the California burrito that I ordered with brisket. County food! The little ones screamed from the backseat as we drove through the country roads of Van Wyck. An image of ribs, brisket, and other meaty pleasures flooded my thoughts. "Smokin' Rail," recommended the map genie, with its immense wisdom and artificial intelligence. "Seventeen minutes," it promised. That was all it took for the kids to quiet down and start fantasizing about cheeseburgers and such. "Cute," said my wife as we walked inside, greeted warmly and quickly seated. My dreams of pork ribs immediately fell apart--no such item on the menu. Not really a smokin' BBQ place if there are no ribs, in my honest opinion. I settled for the brisket, though the waiter insisted it should be eaten as a sandwich. I pushed back--I wanted the plate. Molletes, my wife requested, reminiscing about our adventures in Mexico. "Burger and tendies!" the girls cried in disappointment at the lack of ribs. The food arrived. The brisket was well-balanced between fat and lean, with nicely seasoned and crispy fries. Cute place--looks somewhat like a hunting lodge inside. There is an outdoor seating available and games to play outside. Awesome service--all wait staff check in on you; you never have to search or ask for your drinks to be refilled. Great food--We had onion delicious rings served with some kind of orangey-red dipping sauce (yummy) shrimp tacos (very fresh) and the California Burrito which we asked to have with the brisket for the meat choice and was also delicious. Went there for an early lunch and was immediately struck by the warm, rustic, inviting atmosphere. We were greeted right away with menus and a drink request, which came quickly. The menu contains a good choice of assorted meats. We decided on the calamari to start. It was fried but not greasy but was flavorful and tasty. For our lunch we got the brisket taco special and Gordo's Philly sandwich. The brisket was fantastic with a nice smokey flavor and served on corn tortillas with cilantro, onion, and a little shredded cheese as a base. I'm visiting family from the Boston,MA area for a week, decided to visit this place as it's close and was in the mood for tacos. The tacos in one word... Devine. My guess is that angels came down from heaven to make them. Decided to come back 3 days later and ordered the half chicken meal after the owner recommended it. I have never had a more perfectly seasoned, moist, and grilled chicken. If you're within 200 miles of this place, it is worth the drive! My dining mate and I decided to try this restaurant for lunch. The place is clean and bright, comfortable atmosphere and friendly attentive staff. The menu features a variety of sandwiches, sausage, hot dogs, burgers and a few salads. There is also a kids menu. We ordered onion rings for an appetizer, the California burrito and a Ceasar salad with chicken. The burrito bowl had a hearty filling of shredded chicken, beans and rice, with French fries on the side.. My salad was fresh; a standard variety with grilled chicken. The onion rings were tasty but a disappointment as they were greasy. When I bit into one, grease oozed out. Our lunch for us both came to $39. Finally came to try the brick and mortar Smokin Rail. I remember seeing them a while back at Lore Brewery but couldn't remember if I had it to eat. Well I was not disappointed, the location is a little out of the way for most but is perfect for me as I live very close. The atmosphere was very welcoming and the staff were very friendly to me and my mom as we were there for a lunch date. My mom had the steak quesadilla and I had the California burrito. Wow, the flavors were out of this world good. Everything was just seasoned so well and tasted delicious. My mom even said the quesadilla was one of the best she's had. I'm mad I didn't try this place sooner as I live so close. Best believe I'll be back and highly recommend this spot read more

A little off the beaten path but well worth the trip. Very extensive menu with a fusion of barbecue and Latin flavors. Our server was great and the vibe was really good and casual. We were a party of 8 and we were really well taken care of. Drinks and cocktails were much much better than your usual establishments. After some hiking in the nearby King's Mountain National Park, everyone in the group was hungry and we wanted something close. We went here because they were listed as a BBQ place and it wasn't quite what we expected. And I mean that in a good way. While they have a few BBQ items on the menu they are have more than BBQ. My wife had fried rice with pork that was like Pastor. It was excellent! I had a BBQ pork Quesadilla and it was great. Some of our group had burgers, one had a taco, and one had a BBQ sandwich. However, the other side of the restaurant was crowded. Wanted to order brisket but were told that it was only served on weekends. Ordered the shrimp tacos, street tacos with steak and the quesadilla. The quesadilla was a pork sandwich with french fries? The tacos were okay..not great. Everyone had a draft and they were $10 each. Pricey and not good vs the expectation based on the reviews.
