Why did I wait this long to try Smokiin Mac?? If you have had their mac n cheese, you will understand. And if you haven't, you should ask yourself the same thing! By the looks of the lack of reviews here, a lot of people are missing out!
I have heard great things about their food truck for quite some time but never seemed to track it down. So I was super excited when I found out they would be opening a brick-and-mortar location. Even more so when I looked up the address and realized how close it is to me. But somehow I never seemed to make it there. That all changed yesterday and let me just tell you... if you love mac n cheese, you will LOVE this place!
Ok, so let's get into the good stuff. Jerk Chicken Mac. Yes, it is just as amazing as it sounds! And let me just tell you... they load you up! I wish I would've weighed the plate, but it smelled too good not to dig right in. Let's just say you're going to want to share these plates. Do not make the mistake of ordering more than one. Or do... I can't tell you how to live your life! I'm sure it heats up well, but I can't speak from experience because we managed to finish it all in one sitting. Don't judge! We didn't want to take the risk of anything going to waste! Honestly, I'm starting to think we made the mistake of not ordering more now because as I reflect on how good the meal was while typing this, I'm wishing I had some to eat! From the amazing jerk glaze on top to lots of perfectly cooked chicken throughout and the creamy four-cheese jerk sauce... it is everything mac n cheese should be and then some! I am pretty particular about the consistency of cheese in my mac and had my hesitations about how it would travel, but let me just tell you, this stuff is hot and creamy and travels well.
We also tried the Smok'd Beef Sliders appetizer and enjoyed them too. The buns were nicely toasted and each slider was loaded up with beef, cheese, and bacon. Personally, I could've used a little more sauce on mine, but I'm a sauce fanatic so that may just be me. Next time I will order an extra on the side.
My only disappointment (and I honestly don't even want to call it that because it really isn't a knock to the food or business) was that I didn't get to try the Brisket Mac. There seems to be slight variations between the food truck menu vs the restaurant's menu, so just keep that in mind if you're craving any particular items. So I'll still need to track down the truck someday to try the delicious brisket mac I've heard so much about and maybe some of those tasty gouda bites. In the meantime, I see the jerk chicken mac becoming a staple in our rotation of take-out options. read more
