I've been a long fan of Smokey bones. My family and I travel quite often and we would always look for and go to a Smokey bones in our travels. And it never disappoints, in our experience. This Smokey bones in Utica , we've been there a few times and had mixed experiences. But this time on 07/02/2025, it was very good. We were sat right away, service was pretty good, our waitress kept my water glass full, a big plus in my book. And the food was very good, my wife ordered the rib, fries and coleslaw and I had the half chicken, baked potato and onion rings. And the food was hot my chicken was amazing and my wife ribs were fall off the bone delicious. Good stuff Smokey Bones keep up the goooood work ! I brought my family here for lunch yesterday. Surprisingly, the dining room was fairly empty for tail end of lunch rush (~1pm), although the stormy weather, timing (midweek) and/or location may have had something to do with less clientele. The restaurant seemed to be minimally staffed. After a short time waiting, we were seated and server appeared to be training another staff member, which did not deter from service. The outside door had been left open during passing storm and entry into restaurant was really wet. I advised staff (mentioned it as a hazard) and they proceeded to close door. Food arrived timely, hot and fresh. The 1/2 rack of ("European") ribs were a bit disappointing, as they small and not as meaty as expected. Pulled pork plate and pulled pork sandwich were standard bbq fare--meat was juicy and had good flavor on its own--you add one of 4 bbq to enhance flavor. Potato wedges were good--tasted like a deep fried baked potato. Lunch portion sizes seemed sufficient for the average appetite and Servers were pleasant and attentive. Stopped for lunch and had the special. Full rack of baby back ribs with two sides and Texas toast for $14.99. In my opinion the ribs were overcooked, but I know that a lot of people like that falling off the bone. They were also over sauced which doesn't make sense as there is 5 different kinds of barbecue sauce on the table. The baked beans and mashed potatoes were good and I would order them again. This is our 3rd time at a Smokey bones and 2nd time at this location. Very friendly staff although they were short staffed, they worked very hard. We came to celebrate the 25th anniversary and bought the full rack of ribs with 2 sides. The lunch hamburger was great with fresh,clean lettuce along with tomato,onion and pickles. We've been here a handful of times and really enjoyed the food! Highly recommend the BBQ nachos. Our daughter loves when they bring out the smoker "with all the meats!" Unfortunately, it never seems busy so I'm worried that yet another business may not succeed in that location. My biggest complaint is their floors. I do not understand why they are so sticky throughout the whole restaurant (bathrooms included). read more

Nice barbecue joint where the Brisquet is tender enough to be cut with a fork and the meat is moist and quite flavorful. Also had the slaw and baked bean sides with my brisquet that were equally tasty and a very nice complement to the meat. Relative to the restaurant and staff the Restaurant has a nice casual vibe, with friendly staff and plenty of TV's with good sight lines to allow you plenty of options to watch the local teams while getting a bite to eat. Nice! Overall was a very nice dining experience and I will definately be back the next time my travels take me into the Utica area, If you are a fan of good barbecue you should definately give this business a look see if you are in this part of town. read more

We came in on a whim to grab a quick bite and our server was Marisa. We had TERRIBLE service from her. Im not sure if she was using her ear buds or not but she came to the table to rush us into ordering, talking to herself or phone swearing, crying, and beating the register. Only two tables in the whole place and she never brought our items out. Had to be done by someone else. We finally got our order and she never once checked on us or refilled our waters or asked if we needed anything. Instead she filled the ketchup bottled and wiped the tables down. If it weren't for the awesome manager (didn't get his name), I will say this is the worst service we have ever had in a restaurant. I really don't see how this is sub 3 star. It might be waitress/waiter dependent, lol. Ordered the full rack ribs which came with two sides and a drink. It was their special so instead of $33 it was $20 so had to get it. Ribs were decent. Not fall off the bone and cooked to my liking e.g. I ordered it with light sauce and it was my indeed light but not lacking in flavor. Thumbs up for that, because the sauce of any dish can make or break it. Their sauce did not require extra dipping and I happily had 1/2 to 3/4 slab without issue. Sides were good too. Had sweet potato fries and mac/cheese - favorites for me. Sweet potatoe fries were on par - not the best not not the worst, overall, I might order these again. The mac/cheese while not bad was also not to die for. Nothing special, but who doesn't order mac/cheese at bbq restaurant? Lastly, our server, Rebecca. She deserves a gold star. Went above and beyond. Was running around bt tables but also observant and aware of each table. She introduced the menu, made recommendations, and even made recommendations of what sides NOT to get LOL (corn, one other i forgot), made sure everything was to our liking, and even incorporated humor too. There were plenty of things that went well during our visit, and only a few that didn't go so well. To begin with the staff was wonderful. Our server was an absolute sweetheart and we had two managers both stop by our table to say hello and ask us how our evening had gone. I'm always encouraged when I say management making the rounds and keeping an eye on things. The decor is on point, all the right accoutrements to make you feel like you're down south and enjoying the real deal. Most of what we had to eat was quite good. We were disappointed to learn that they had run out of the more expensive ribs. We settled for the imported ribs, which came out nice and tender. I'm always encouraged by a place that will cook the ribs and a sauce that's neutral, and then leave it up to you to add the heat at the table if you're so inclined. There were four sauces at the table and so I had a chance to experiment a little bit. Each one was quite good. The baked beans were also very good, with a nice smoky flavor and without being overcooked. About the only disappointing item was the coleslaw. Sliced too big and not creamy enough. The only other disappointing item was the rather pathetic towels in the bathroom for drying your hands. I need it about six of them. Perhaps these can be upgraded? Frankly I'm a bit surprised that this place is averaging a three star review, our experience was definitely a four star. read more

I was looking to spend my Uber credit and was browsing what was nearby. This place had promotion going on which was buy one pulled pork sammy get one pulled pork sammy free. So I gave it a try. I placed an order on UberEats around 7:30pm however, the app was showing expected pickup time as 9pm. I should have chosen a time and not just ASAP. The order was ready to be picked up when I showed up around 9pm at their pick up counter. It was very empty. Not sure why UberEats gave them more than 1 hour for my order. Maybe they were busy before I showed up? But the pick up was easy and staffs were nice. I liked the buns and pulled pork with the BBQ sauce, everything tasted good. The pork was tender with flavor that went really well with the sauce. The creamy cole slaw was also good and had large portion than expected, too. But fire roasted corn was alright. Just personal preference, I would prefer store bought canned sweet corn to this. This review is based on experience with UberEats promotion and UberEats pricing. I would give five stars as it does feel like a great deal to get two pulled pork sammies at $15, even with the UberEats price of $14.94, an upcharge of $3.50 compared to their regular price of $11.49. I've had my eye on this place for a while, and finally had a chance to swing in here today to check it out for lunch. It went okay overall, but I think they could use a few improvements. I reviewed the menu and they have a decent selection of items to choose from. Burgers, Chili, and of course, BBQ. I was focused on getting brisket since that's my go to for places like this, but am also open to ordering chicken. When my server came to my table I asked her what she recommended. She said ribs, but I don't eat pork, so that's off the list right away. I asked her about Brisket and she showed me two different options to choose from. One's a lunch special sandwich for $17.99 that comes with 2 sides. The other one is a sandwich as well, but comes with one side for $16.99. I blew the budget for the extra dollar to get two sides. So, here's where my constructive criticism comes in. For starters, I thought it was supposed to be a sandwich but it wasn't. Fine. Second, they forgot to chop the brisket but I got over it since I was starving. Third, the sides were good, but the BBQ sauce options were very slim. I think they make them there, but they were more vinegar and mustard based which I don't particularly liked. I think they need to expand their sauce collection here big time. As for the brisket, it was good regardless of it being chopped or not. I liked how it was done and had good flavor, but since the sauce wasn't great, that kind of let me down a tiny bit. Also, the place here's kind of expensive so I can't frequent here often and frequently since after a pop, my bill was $21.40. Plus tip, almost $25. For one person. No booze, nothing. If I had a beer, I'm sure it would have been much more. Will I return? Sure. I liked it and had a good time, but between the few issues that I had and the price point, I have to think really hard about it before I stop in again. I think if they did better on the BBQ sauces, and had ones more like Mission BBQ does, I'd probably try this place again sooner than later. read more

Maybe this review should be directed at door dash and not smoky bones but here we are. First of all, this is the type of place that I would never eat at if picking for myself but, my vegetarian daughter was looking for a veggie burger so after a long day we decided to give this a try because apparently this place has a decent one. As a matter of principle, I hate corporate, chain restaurants and make no mistake that's exactly what this place (along with damn near everything else on hall road) is. There are so many good, local restaurants that actually care more about food than they do marketing. If you're in Macomb county and want BBQ try Bad Brads or Lazybones or drive a bit and hit up Woodpile in Clawson. So I place an order for a family of four on Door Dash and get at estimated delivery time for about 40-60 minutes later...cool. Well, as the hanger grows in our house and we await our delivery, A very disappointing text comes about 5 minutes before our order window. The order had been canceled. DD gave me 3 possible reasons, all due to the restaurant. See the attached pic. At this point it's too late to place an order elsewhere. Excellent food, excellent service! Got their pulled-pork "sundae" which has pulled pork, Mac cheese, jalapeño sausages and coleslaw for only $11.99. Concept and presentation of the dish was great! Lots of pulled pork to my surprise. Flavor is decent, not like amazing, but definitely a 4/5 star worth. What really made this place 5/5 for me was the service! She was so helpful in answering our questions and really went out of her way to make us feel like family. We stopped in to Smokey Bones on Thursday for their buy one get one brisket last week- I was very hesitant bc I have read so many poor reviews. Everything was fantastic! Two plentiful orders of brisket plus four sides - so much food for under $30. Seriously so much food. We went back the following week- they had run out of brisket so we had the buy one get one boneless wings and some sides. The sauces were excellent especially the hot honey, corn bread was delicious, coleslaw as spot on, mac and cheese was top 3 ever, and wedges were perfectly seasoned. Both times our entire group was happy and left with full bellies and food for another meal. We spoke to our server who was great and she said they have struggled to maintain staff so sometimes things can be tough. Everyday they have great specials. We will be back! read more

Description online says "FEEDS 6-8 PEOPLE" I paid $15.89 for a small ass cup of mac and cheese that they claim is a quart and it was not even full I've dined in before and know this is about the same amount of Mac and cheese they give you as a side. And I've also ordered enough Chinese food in my life to know how much a quart is. I complained to the lady at the register. I said "I'm sorry mam but this doesn't seem like family size?" and she proceeds to tell me "well yeah family size is 1 quart. If you want you can upgrade to catering size. Extremely disappointed! We ordered the Signature House Smoked Ribs because the waitress said they were much meatier than the Imported Ribs. The signature ribs are $32 the Imported $22. The Signature ribs weren't even a whole slab (lengthwise), and literally didn't have any meat on several of the ribs! The waitress said that they were having problems with their suppliers and had been for some time, but were looking for different suppliers. Huh? But, the side dishes were in cheap containers that were smaller than a small ramekin bowl, and all but tasteless. The manager gave us the Signature ribs for the price of the Imported, but it was a bad, bad deal. And, the ribs didn't taste that great, either! Our waitress was good and we felt bad for her, because she had to deliver the message, not the manager. I understand that restaurants have their bad days, but this is their specialty! PSA: Ignore the bad reviews on this place! I ordered delivery from here for my family on a Sunday night because of friend recommendations and this was BY FAR the best restaurant delivery experience I have had in several years. From restaurant to home the whole experience took less than 20 minutes. This is also my first ever restaurant review I have written before because this place and my experience was just THAT good. I've been to Texas a few times and every time I go to purchase bbq I am not disappointed, but when I ordered from here (which, compared to Texas, is much cheaper) I didn't notice a difference in quality whatsoever. I ordered the campfire platter with brisket and pulled pork - it was absolutely incredible. Everything was perfectly seasoned, cooked, and sauced. They gave me four different types of sauce and each of them did not disappoint. Even the donuts we had for dessert were excellently fried, they were crispy and perfectly sweet. Eating bbq from this establishment felt like I was back in Texas- I will be a repeat customer from here on out. So, decided to try this place out, as opposed to another barbecue joint across the road, primarily because I saw that they serve beer. Lol That being said, tried it out, the pork belly lollipops for an appetizer. They were OK, but way too much sweet barbecue sauce, and other gooey sauces all over the place. Then went with the bonfire. While it was an OK portion of meat, none of it had smoke flavor, and it all had the same sauce, poured over it. My lady ordered the brisket combo. She got the mac & cheese and coleslaw as sides. Again the brisket had absolutely zero smoke flavor. The mac & cheese was nothing to talk about, but she said the coleslaw was really good. So, as far as the food there, I give the place about a 1.5. I think they need a new chef. And for it having smoke in the name, as I previously mentioned, there was no smoke flavor present in any of the food and you cannot smell it at all when walking into the restaurant. It does not smell like a barbecue joint. For the positive, our service was great. I did discuss it with the manager when he walked over after our meal was done. I told him that the food was just all right and explained my issues as above. He was very receptive and said he appreciated the feedback.
