Meat was a 3.5 - very good but not excellent. No bark on the brisket but very tender and lean and tasty. Excellent tangy bbq sauce. Sides were extremely bland. The bread was oddly really good. The staff were so freaking rude, notwithstanding the fact that we spent over $200. It was way, way too expensive for what it was. And cash only. And again, really really rude. For me it was 4.5/5 but there's pineapple in it, which my wife doesn't like, so she gives that one only 3 Our server was friendly, and they did let us bring our dog with us to eat in the patio area. I wasn't blown away by this place. The dude behind the counter wasn't especially friendly or helpful, didn't seem like he wanted to be there. The BBQ wasn't anything to write home about, I got the three meat plate, the portions seemed skimpy, my daughter got the kids plate and had a huge pile of pulled pork piled on. The half rack of ribs it said would come on it was a single spare rib. Not a lot of options in alpine, so this place is decent, I just certainly wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again. read more

Horrible customer service. They do not take credit cards. They told me there was was an ATM next door store in the gas station. I told them I would be right back. The ATM was out of service so I had to drive around town to find another ATM. Returned in about 10 minutes to find the staff closing up a half hour before the restaurant was scheduled to close. Said he couldn't cut anything because he already put away the cutting boards, but offered to sell a pound of uncut brisket to take back to my hotel room and "pick at." I could not believe it. This guy was refusing to cut up the brisket and make me a sandwich because he was too lazy to unpack the cutting boards he had already put away! Horrible customer service. There are plenty of good barbecue places in town and near by in Marfa and Marathon that will be happy to make me a sandwich and they take credit cards. NEVER AGAIN! read more

First of all, even with 2 pairs of eyes searching and following Google maps, it took us 10 minutes to locate the small underwhelming entrence. Finally ordering, the male server taking our order was beyond rude. He was impatient and short with us (even though we ordered with in two minutes and no one was behind us). Right as we were about to pay, he informed us it was cash only. I searched for a sign that said "cash only" on the exterior of the restaurant, and nothing. Only on the wall near the menu did it say that. We apologized and went next door to the atm in the gas station, which of course was not functioning. Look, i get it if some places are crash only. But what I don't get is the attitude and lack of service when we are clearly not from here, we felt awful and were very apologetic, tried to find another ATM in addition to the next door one that didn't work, and still he was rude. When we came back to inform him we could not find a functioning ATM, he basically laughed and shook his head. I get it must of been annoying to take an order and then have to cancel it. But let's be nice, and maybe have our own dang ATM if you'd like to cash only? Just an idea. read more

I'm not a huge fan of BBQ but we stopped here for lunch on our drive from Terlingua to Midland and OMG it was DELICIOUS. I was with a party of 5 and we all were happy with our various choices. It's a hole in the wall but totally worth it, especially for the price. read more

I'd have never seen Smokehouse BBQ from the road. We got a Restaurant Guide from the Alpine Visitor Center. The food was amazing! The kids wanted my pinto beans, wolfed down the brisket, and BEGGED to come back for lunch tomorrow. Long story short, it was so good & the guys were really nice. read more

Excellent food. The brisket, sausage, beans, and pulled pork was very tasty. However, you do need to be aware that it is cash or check only.

My family and I had lunch here, today. The food is great. My normally picky 9 year old, let me know he would NOT eat the brisket sandwich that I ordered for him. After one bite, he consumed it within minutes and asked for another!! Everybody here is so nice, as well. We will be coming back and, of course, I'll reccomend this place to others. Stopped by this place from Big Bend National Park for lunch break. Really good barbecue place! It's in a little space next to a gas station and Alpine Furniture. Only accepts cash though. Their coleslaw, beans, and potato salad tasted very good! read more

It was the penultimate day of my grand 1082km/649mile, 25-day, "reTIRED Biketour!", 23JAN-17FEB2018, and I was meandering West in amazing AlpineTX-USA looking for an inexpensive overnight when I saw this excellent eatery tucked into the end of a corner strip mall. I had spent the day pedaling North on TX118 from my Elephant Mountain campsite against a rather stiff headwind, short on clean freshwater (thank you, Ramon & Patricio, Mijelum maintenance, for sharing your water), grateful that both the outstanding Visitors' Center & the pubic library were still open to assist me, and slowly moving toward the economical Pecan Grove RV Park. I nearly passed this super BBQ store, but was quite hungry and wheeled around to investigate. I could smell the delicious meat scent wafting from inside, my mouth salivating instantaneously and KNEW a good meal awaited me. Going inside, I met the two entrepreneurs, Zak & Josh, working in the separate kitchen, prepping meals to go. Indecision wracked me whilst trying to determine which meat to enjoy, leading me to buy the combo plate, which was more expensive but gave me a good sample of each. It was a true treat for my tastebuds, as well as meeting my nutritional needs, with benefit of making two more meals later!
