I have been coming to Smog King San Ramon with my cars for years. I have always been satisfied with the service. This morning I went in for my appointment (on time). George was sitting in the lobby drinking coffee. He was so grumpy it was awkward. George said he was glad it was Friday (it was Thursday,his Friday) was the first thing out of his mouth. He acted like he had a backup of customers waiting for him at his high pressure job. I asked him a question and he grumbled and couldn't be bothered. He was the same when doing the paperwork to finish. I won't be going back there again. He needs a new job at a different company. What happened to the other man that was so pleasant all these years? If you just want fast service go ahead. I think being pleasant to customers shouldn't pain a business. There are lots of smog shops ! read more

Great service and super fast, but I felt awkward using their portable white cash register because it asks you for a tip. Getting a vehicle smogged is pricey as is and it took under 10 minutes but I felt obligated to tip because it suggests 15%+ gratuities. I wasn't going to be that jerk who said no tip when prompted and standing in front of an employee while they watch me use the register. At the same time...it's a smog shop. They're getting paid a decent hourly wage, why am I being asked to tip? I won't come back because of it.M unfortunately. just hate that pressure for an industry that doesn't typically ask for tips. read more

I used their service two years ago and didn't have any problems. Recently, I brought one of my cars back to get re-tested. The guy behind the counter was rude and had an attitude. I don't ask much from commodity business's other than being polite and providing the absolute minimum customer service. I definitely didn't feel that I got even that. Time again to do "...the smog routine..." No coupons handy so I did a Google Search. I contacted this local shop listed on YELP! The gentleman answering the phone said he would perform the service for $98; after a minute he said he could do it for $78. Still seemed too high. Eventually went to Walnut Creek for $37 ... worth the trip. This review has nothing to do with the quality of work performed or the customer service attitudes as noted in antoher review. After the Discount Smog Test Station ignored the engine light in my car so that they could charge me for a smog test KNOWING the car would fail, I brought the car to this place. As I just moved here from out of state and never had a problem smogging the car before, I didn't know the rule about the engine light. The last place hooked the car up anyway and then charged me 109 dollars for an aborted test. Smog King got into my car, saw the light, then got out to explain why it would be a ripoff for me to have the car smog tested, as it was an automatic fail. He didn't just hook the car up, charge me, then tell me it failed. When I saw this kind of customer service and integrity, I brought my other car down and had him test it. In and out in ten minutes. Nobody likes getting their car smogged. It's just a fact of life. However, if you get the extra pleasure of having to go to a Test Only facility, that just adds to the hassle. But, the folks at Smog King make it pretty easy. I was able to book an appointment online and print out a coupon right from their website. The day of the smog check, I drove the car around for a little while, showed up on time and they were ready for me. The guy working there was friendly and helpful in getting the paperwork filled out. And then the testing was completed in about 20 minutes. It was very painless and easy. Heck, they even have free wifi in the waiting room. After the test was over, he explained the results to me even though I passed. I appreciated that. All in all, it was a good experience. Will I be back?
