I highly recommend staying at this campground if you are looking to camp in Lava Hot Springs.

Right as we pulled up, they told us to move our car even though that's where we've parked the four previous years. Then once we were at our site, he came over on several occasions to let us know we are violating rules; rules we were never made aware of the previous 4 years. Just felt as though he was looking for things to nitpick at, leaving us anxious everytime he made the rounds on his golf cart. We'll double check who the hosts will be before booking again, as we've really enjoyed the previous hosts.

There are not restrooms in the cabins, those are available in a separate facility, and the cabins are older and lacking many of the modern conveniences of more standard lodgings. In fact it looked like any regular pools or spa but as you get close you can see the steam wafting up and as you dip your feet in the water it's "aaaaahhh" at first sigh... hehee I don't remember the cost but it was between $10-$20. We were on the front corner along the road and the lights from the roadway shined in all night, had to get up and get the phone several times thinking it was day and my alarm hadn't gone off only to find it was 2 am, 4:30 am, 6 am. I don't know if this is because we had a pet room, but for the $125 it might have been a tad high. Let's talk about the beds. Best thing about the room! They were thick and very comfortable.

The door to our room suddenly became completely inoperable, trapping me, my boyfriend, and our child inside. The only way we could get out was by climbing through the window. Thankfully, our room had a large enough window to escape. Some of the other rooms only have small, high windows, which could have made the situation much worse. When I informed the front desk, the employee's response was shocking: "Oh yeah, we've been having issues with that door." If they already knew it was malfunctioning, why was it never repaired before putting guests in that room? The employee tried and failed to open the door, then told us, "Luckily we have one room available tonight." We then had to wait about three hours before moving. When the room was finally ready, we had to pass all of our luggage out the window and move everything ourselves. Instead of enjoying the little vacation time we had left, we spent it dealing with a problem that could have been prevented. While we appreciated being moved to another room, it doesn't change the fact that this was a major safety hazard. At checkout, we politely asked if there was any compensation for the inconvenience, lost vacation time, and, most importantly, the safety risk. We weren't asking for a full refund--just a reasonable gesture of goodwill. Instead, we were immediately met with resistance. An employee even told us, "The owner is a stickler." When we spoke with the owner, Tyler, he dismissed our concerns almost immediately, saying, "Things happen." There was no apology, no accountability, and no indication that guest safety was a priority. Based on our experience, this property is poorly maintained, and management appears unwilling to address serious issues or stand behind their guests when something goes wrong. I cannot recommend staying here, especially if you value your safety and expect reasonable customer service when problems arise.

While I didn't feel what all the hype was about, this little hotel made the experience the best for us. There were only privately owned hotels and all directly in Lava Hot Springs and then there was this one. While definitely not fancy, it was quaint. It's not in the city, but plenty of nature out your back door which was a fun and interesting surprise. It's not the Grand hotel but it has a bed and running water and it's clean and seem to be kept up nicely. Pros: The bed is NICE. It felt like a new memory foam mattress which we slept REALLY well on. The AC is frigid which is a big deal to me, the fan nice and loud to drown out noises, the little fridge was more spacious than other hotels and my favorite pro? It wasn't in town where EVERYONE else was and it was nice to come out of Lava Hot Springs and just breath while only 3 minutes away. PERFECT. Cons: Two cons but not a big deal considering the value it provided us and I'm a snob when it comes to sleeping away from home. The first, it's RIGHT off the main highway so it is noisy but the air conditioning fan took care of that for me. Two, the smell is a liiiittle musty so bring a diffuser or candle or something to make it more pleasant. It's cute, meets the needs and the front desk was pleasant. If you love Schitt's Creek you'll appreciate all this little hotel gives in its unique and quaint experience. Actually, I recommend it for that! Ha! Would I stay here again? 100%
