I called to get a tow, they dropped my car, and on the way back my car dropped so far down that my tire rubbed so much it popped and almost rubbed down to the rim. the manager tried offering me $50 over and over again to make me go away instead of fixing my tire. each time I tried to get ahold of him or showed up to their shop I was treated very poorly and they were always very underprepared. after a week from the incident he still had not contacted me about a new tire so I just showed up to the shop and he didn't even have my tire yet so he gave me a temp tire that wasn't even the right size. Kept trying to get a hold of him for my new tire and he stopped answering my phone calls. Not to mention their terrible hours of operation: 10-4 with a two hour lunch break in the middle of the day and only open Mon-Thurs. I showed up again after trying to find a way to get there to get my new tire bc again, NO TIRE on my vehicle so I have to coordinate a ride to even be able to get there in the first place, and I was treated so horribly, saying "yeah she FINALLY showed up but I don't know what she wants" over the phone when I was RIGHT THERE in blatant ear shot. Finally gave me my stupid tire. DO NOT bother asking these guys for help unless you want to be reamed by terrible service and car treatment. I would have been better pushing my car all the way back home than ever letting these simpering fools ever touch my car. If you want a massive headache, have a degradation kink, and want to never get what you need, then this is the place for you. FUCK THESE GUYS read more

Con Artist!!!!!!!! Smith's was dispatched by the police and before he hooked up to my car he was asked if he would take it to my shop of choice. He refused but then said he needed to get my car out of the road. we asked if he could pull it around the corner and he said yes. He then got in my car and drove it onto his tow truck (I have the video of him doing it). He then proceeds to tell me he wants $270 cash. I was never told a price and $270 for pulling it 20 feet when we could have drove it around the corner, WTF! I told him to bill the ladies insurance company that hit me and caused the damage and he would not. Smith's took my car to their impound where they charged $65 a day to keep my car. DO NOT CALL THIS CON ARTIST TO TOW YOUR VEHICLE EVER!!!!!!! read more

I had roadside assistance setup a service call with Smith's. I waited over 4 hours and called Smith's myself multiple times to get "revised" estimates of their arrival. After calling roadside assistance again to see if they could find out what was going on, we were told that Smith's had "no record" of any service request and denied ever having spoke with any of us. This left me without a tow in the evening after waiting all afternoon. read more

Took a little longer than I expected to arrive but once there the driver was very courteous. The price was much better than other local companies that I'd dealt with before. I will definitely use them again if I need a tow. read more

Do yourself a favor and don't use Smiths towing! I used my insurance roadside assistance for my vehicle that had died on the highway about 8 miles out of town. This was at 3:15 pm. The car was left there. Roadside contacted Smiths and the dispatched within 5 minutes. They told my roadside service and myself that the car was was not on the highway. They also said that they left town and went past the town/exit before where the vehicle was and continued to the next exit. They said the vehicle was not on the side of the road. I found out about 5 that the vehicle had not been dropped at my house. I drove out to where the vehicle was and l, yes, believe it not not it was still there. I decided to bypass my roadside assistance and called feldkamps and they were on the scene in under 20 minutes. There are two possibilities that could have happened. One, the guy saw the vehicle and for some reason decided not to pick it up. Or, two, they either didn't send a truck out or it only went to the exit before where the vehicle was located. This means only one thing. Smiths towing LIED about what they did or did not do. I would strongly recommend avoiding this less than stellar towing company. Feldkamps on the other hand was prompt, friendly and gave me no problems. read more

I would give 0 stars if possible. I wouldn't even hire these guys again if they paid ME to tow my car. Took almost two hours to get to my car. Then couldn't find it with SPECIFIC as hell instructions the guy was so stupid. Finally had to drive down to show him where the car was and he was standing 10 feet away from the car.... I called smiths towing at 4:00 pm and they quoted me a price of $70 to tow my truck 2 miles on a flat bed. I spoke to the first guy and told him the location of my truck and where it was to be to. It was a country address and I told him that I was only 1 mile away from his shop and I would just meet him there and he could follow me straight to my truck. He said ok, and I drove to his shop. When I got there he called me and said he was not there but at a remote location. He told me he could find it no problem and to just meet him there in 1/2 hour. I drove straight there. 45 minutes later a different driver called and said he was driving up and down the road and couldn't find it. Turns out that he didnt put in the right town. So he fixed that and I gave him verbal directions and he said he knew where I was. 20 minutes later a woman calls from the office and says that they can't find the address in there computer to charge me for the miles it took them to get there. I said well is it still the $70 you told me it was going to be? She sain no, we have been driving around looking for the address and there is more in route charges now. I told her that it wasn't my fault that they couldn't find an address that I gave to them 3 times with verbal direction and offered to drive them in. She told me that it didnt matter because they have spent the time and fuel. I said well then I dont think im interested in your services then. She said ok thats fine and hung up on me. I called 4 different companies for prices. All were 100 hookup and 4 dollars per loaded mile. Smith's quoted me a price of 70 for hookup and 3 dollars a loaded mile. I went with them. Its a Saturday, i need to get my truck in to the mechanic so it can be worked on Monday. I call and set it up at 1:30. They tell me they will be here in an hour and 20 minutes. Almost 4 hours later the driver shows up. Hooks my truck up, tells me the total is 214 dollars. It is late, i have no time to bicker because its too late to call someone else and have it towed. I pay the bill with a 2 dollar processing fee....... The driver looks at me and says your are welcome to give me a tip if you want. He leaves with my truck. i google mapped the distance from pickup to destination. 27 miles. At the quoted price, my bill should have been about 150 dollars. I called to ask what was going on, talked to the same girl that gave me the quote. She turned me over to her "dispatcher" who tells me they also charge 3 dollars per mile for any other travel time. I about lost it. I guess its my fault for paying before calling to ask but i expect to pay what i am quoted. They trick you, I asked if there was anything they could do, hell, i would have been happy with 20 bux off, but no. I said i will never use or recommend your company again, The response was OK, fine, goodbye. All 3 of the other companies i called would have been cheaper than smiths, I was duped. read more

Towing crooks of Champaign County. Call this place if you want to be charged ridiculous rates for...Anything! Call Smiths Towing if you want them to damage your vehicle further then what it already is. My Fiance got into a front end collision with our car, Had i known at the time of the accident that smith's was going to be the tow company that was called... No way in hell would this place be the company to tow our car. There is a reason why the buisness i work for, which is located right next door, doesnt use this place! We see it all, we see these guys racing through the lot with vehicles in tow, we see the broke down tow trucks, we see the fire dept arrive to extinguish tow truck fires... All right behind us. So.. back to the tow job. They tow our car.. Charge $200 to tow, $50 a day for storage, $50 for debris pick up. Great.. I called later in the day for a tow and it was $70. Thats quite a price difference. They refused to tow our car to a body shop, or to my house. Theres the storage fee they got out of us... Drove past the intersection where the accident occurred, and there is debris in the road, i picked up the grill from my car right off the road.... Yet they charged $50 to clean that up! Awesome! After the accident had occured, the tow truck driver refused to even give my fiance a ride home! "Well.. i might be able to take you to the gas station". I know all too much about this place. Dont spend your money here.. They parked another car next to mine in the "police impound lot". In the process they ran into my drivers side mirror and damaged it, and then... Denied it! Awesome. So everyone, give a round of applause for this AWESOME tow company. If you need a tow, road side assistance, any assistance at all.. Save your self the headache, save your self the frustration, the curse words, the arguing, Call another local company. Dont call Smith's. read more
