Otherwise you are in for a horribly dry, though still flavorfully-seasoned, piece of meat. Get the Amish donuts from the bakery!! Though I am not a huge fan of donuts: all the folks I know agree that they are hands down the best donut out there. I go here more out of convenience (location-wise) considering that this is virtually the only grocery-store option within a 20 mile radius of where I'm at. I wouldn't go so far to say that this place offers foods at "low prices", but the things here aren't oober expensive. Make sure to watch the prices of the dry goods and frozen foods as I find those to be the ones that are most unreasonably priced.

Phone service is not great here. I asked if I can use the WiFi, and the cashier answered immediately, helping me connect with their WiFi. On the way to the Michigan UP, as you pass north of Green Bay, you spot a sign that reads "Better…read moreBuy Brosig's" and a picture of an ear of corn. Good advice to be taken seriously by novice Wisconsin roadside corn buyers. During the peak corn harvest season of August through early September, you will see lots of fresh vegetable & corn signs pop up all over Wisconsin. These often lead you to gas stations, empty lots with tents and tables set up, or just a produce-laden pick-up truck with some shirtless, unshaven farmer guy with bad teeth. You have to be certain you get good corn. Some places don't let you pick through their corn and all you get is a "mystery bag" with a dozen ears for a certain $. Then you look later and find it's some dried-up horse-corn with withered tassels. Others have undersized and immature corn that is underdeveloped and flavorless. Now located in Crivitz (formerly in Pound, WI) Brosig's consistently has the freshest, biggest tri-color corn we've come across. They have a roadside location and a smaller one in a gas station parking lot a little farther north in the same town. On our way to Michigan and on the trip home, we always stop and get a bag of fresh Brosig's corn. Brosig's puts 13 to a bag themselves, but don't fear finding any bad corn in there! They also carry other fresh vegetables like giant bell peppers, 2-foot long zucchini, tomatoes, potatoes, leeks, and other locally grown farm goodies, most of which were picked the same day. The stand is right alongside US-141 in Crivitz, with a sign about 1/2-mile away. You'll be amazed at the volume of business Brosig's gets from passing tourists like us, as well as loyal locals. Pull over to the side of the road and check it out. The folks working at the farmstand have that honest-to-goodness, laid-back rural personality you find out there but rarely encounter in the city. Come by, get some corn or zucchini, chat with them, even ask them where they recommend going for the best fish fry or something.

On US-2 in the heart of Iron Mountain, right next to Dickinson County Hospital, you'll see a big…read moretent and some wooden signs that read "Sweet Corn," "New Potatoes" and "Honey Rock Melons." Pull into the gravel lot and you'll see a small produce stand. Not as good as Spiessel's in Ishpeming, but decent. They also have onions, peaches, rutabagas, and even apples at the right time of year. And yes, the monster cudgel-sized zucchinis, grown locally south of the UP border in Beecher, WI. (see photo of monster zucchini for an idea of what to do with it). The honey rock melons are like large cantaloupes or musk melons in appearance and flavor. Pretty fresh too. I would not trust them 100% on the sweet corn though. While they tend to have good corn, we ended up with flavorless, dry-tasting horse corn on occasion. Peel back a few ears before you buy them just to be sure. Now, back to that zucchini. The guy at the produce stand told me an interesting fact to note. There is actually a sizable Middle-Eastern population in the Iron Mountain area and they buy the zucchini often. They prepare the big zucchini by cutting it in half length-wise, hollowing out the inside, cooking the innards with some other ingredients and refilling it, using the zucchini body as the serving dish. Personally, we just dice it up and cook it with stewed tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and melt some cheese on top. But you can always parade around with the big zucchini like me...
